I used to watch Food Network all the time. Now I find it sad that I have to go to Youtube, in order to watch people actually cook on television. The cooking channel isn't much different. It's all game shows about food, with no real educational qualities. Food Network could probably take credit for all of the foodies out there, but they are losing us at this point with inane programming. I don't care what a chef's favorite food is, show me how to make it!!!
I followed this recipe allmost to the "T" except for: fresh thyme, fresh beef stock, and beef shoulder. I used chuck roast and trimed off the fat, and used cooking wine from the grocery store in place of regular wine, it actually tasted better the second day I ate it.... this method that I used was based on money I had to spend. I also used regular onions instead of pearl as well as canned peas.
You don't have to say it in condisending way? I haven't broken down the areas where the meat is located and totally forgot that thats where its located? So.....BACK OFF!!!!
@TheTonyjara : I worked as a meat cutter for a few years so I guess it's not fair to ambush you, add the front and back to this and you will be an expert : reluctantgourmet. /beef_chart.htm as youtube won't allow addys.
uhh people this is tyler florence from food network he's not gonna respond to tell you what type of wine he used in his recipe on food networks website it is a french burgandy
A good beef stew is indeed one of the best foods on the planet.
One thing I like to add that is a bit different is a big handful of dried tart cherries. They add an interesting taste that realy complements the beef and red wine.
it was a tad tough, you Do have to slow cook it. Fix it in the morning well half cook it, then put it in a crock pot on low, It'll cook all day long. You should have an awesome result
I just made beefstew, most of what he put, but didn't look like that ahaha. I gotta go on the exact flavors! Beautiful, mmmmmmmmmm.

I'd like to know what kind of red wine you used also. Has anyone tried this? With all that wine i'm wondering if you still have that beef flavor?

I used a burgundy. it works the best. You need it red and extra dry.

He didn't cook this down for long. What was the texture of your beef? Was it tough or tender? I would think slow long cooking time on this.
