In this position, take your arms in a 45 degree angel down by your lower body, and let the hands point in the same direction as the front foot. You'll then have the "Snake creeps down" stance used in Tai chi
@Gruzdiarski actually its always been considered a kick... even in wu bu quan, the most basic of ALL shaolin forms, it is used as a kick. not that i agree with this guy, i think its a horrible explaination, but ya... it IS used as a low kick amongst other things.
AND, both feet should be parallel... dont kick the back foot out
I am familiar with this explanation, and I respect your opinion, but in practice I became convinced that the only situation where this situation is really necessary is a low maintenance, followed by attack.
Try your best to get both heels to the ground, start from a higher stance by practicing keeping your heels flat on the ground and work yourself lower over time (just like what lenny47 said).
@NVno1 ankle flexibility is a common problem. you gotta work on stretching your toes up towards your shin. best way to do it is to put your feet together a foot or so away from something you can hold onto for support, and basically squat down as low as you can without tipping backwards. through time you will b able to just sit like that. its called the "farmers squat." if u dont get what im talkin about email me and i'll send u a picture
i have seen the most benefits in my own kung fu from training the pok bo stance

This stand has never been considered as a blow, this step is used for sliding under obstacles, such as a bench or table.

what advice can you give to people who can't get their heel down in this stance?
NVno1 3 years ago 2
Start off in a higher stance and work yourself lower over time. That will stretch the calf muscle.
