i havent seen a mouse in the past like 8 years that doesnt have a scroll wheel so it kinda seems to me like you could just take a usb mouse and program it to do the same thing or you could take the little wheel out and put it sideways if you needed it to scroll that way so badly

i am gonna make this. It works for Mac, right? If I use a ball mouse for USB, would that work too? I have no experience with soldering but im gonna try this. Any advice?

If you don't have time to put one of these together, my jog dial iPhone app does exactly the same thing - just search for jog dial on the app store.
