  • quite a strange song to cover, has she ever talked about the reasons for covering the song?

Fuck the Shankill Butchers, evil bastards.

  • Awesome! Hoping to do a support gig with her in U.K. in July. Amazing talent. :o)

  • What mando is she playing in this video?

  • wow. first listen, and instant fan.

possibly the best tom waits cover i've ever heard.

  • I just discovered sarah, I even haven't heard about her before in my life, and she amazed me, she's really pretty she's got talent, she's got alot goin' for her.... she's AMAZING..

  • Just saw them for the first time on ACL. Was blown away by their talent, & especially Sarah's voice & that great picking style of hers. They all look like their ditching high school.

  • It would be nice if you didn't substitute numbers for words when citing the name of a song. I'm sure that "2" wasn't in the original title. You might also want to credit the other songwriter, Kathleen Brennan.

  • is that andy sandberg on base??? :-)

  • There is some serious talent going on here..........

  • What? Do people not consider it bluegrass unless it has a banjo or an old man with a nasal whine? Good grief. This is the future of bluegrass, which would die without people willing to breathe life into it as the old breed fades away. I'd say she's doing a great honor to bluegrass by introducing new generations to one of the greatest preservations of American cultural history.

  • "Come down off the cross, we could use the wood" Awesome lyrics here...thank you Tom Waits.

  • She's pretty good, but it's clear she does not understand this song/Tom Waits very well if she set it to an arrangement like this.

  • @babygotgoing Have you even heard Tom's recording? It's a gospel song and Sarah does a great version of it. Tom's Glitter and Doom show was a religious experience for me.

  • While they seem very talented, I hope they are not calling this bluegrass.

  • that girl is crazy good!!!

  • My math teacher is related (er something rather) to her!

  • I heard them do this on PHC, really great.

  • Yea that's where I heard it too. I was out in my car and I came straight home and looked it up here. I love PHC and I love Youtube. Although sometimes Youtube can be too good in the sense that it's easy to over-do it. Bit like eating caviare all day...sooner or later it's gonna make you wanna vomit.

  • wow!

    check out!

    hahaha

  • YEAH... I am definitely a-comin' up to Sarah's House O' Blue(s)grass! Sweet music indeed.

  • This girls voice is amazing, and the Music ability of all those kids is unbelievable. Great Music. Wish I could give more praise, but truthfully speechless.

  • I can't stop watching this!

I am so grateful to see the future of traditional and progressive music will be alive and well in hands like these.

  • Dude those guys are sooo awesome I just heard this on Prairie Home Companion!!

  • well i'm sure glad these people exist because i am a talentless fool

  • These kids are impressive!!! Between them and Sierra Hull, the future if Bluegrass is in good hands indeed abd hooray for that!!! Including the fiddle player. But hearing this also reminds you just what an incredibly impressive fiddle player Alison Krauss was at the same age. Not taking anything away from these kids though but one just can't help but remember the vid of Alison at 16 playing wayfaring stranger.

  • I'm a East coast boy raised on alternative Music. Sara reminds me of Rikki Lee Jones in the early 80's. She has a gift!!!

  • Agreed!

  • @richit66

She definately has the gift. And with all due respect to Tom ..and Rikki. This girl NAILS it. Takes me there. Just saw her and Steve Martin on Austin City Limits

and this song in particular just nailed me to the wall! That southern charm

and soulful wail she has are AWESOME!

  • @clamdraggin I too saw her on Austin City Limits. At first listen I thought her performance was kind of flat, nothing that would stick in your mind. Then she closed with this song. I became an instant fan. I think her song writing my need some polishing but her talent is overwhelming.

  • @richit66 Just what I was thinking , and to complete the circle weren't Rickie lee Jones and Tom Waits together early 80's ??

  • wow they are good.. i like them

  • They are all pretty young and you have a good eye and ear. Alex Hargreaves on fiddle is the youngest, just turned 16, and has been known as a prodigy for years (as has SJ), and Samson, or Sam, is 18. The son of David Grisman and playing in the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience band also. Sarah J is I think just turned 17 but I don't know any of these kids personally, just passing on what I've heard. Thanks for stopping by...

  • I realize I am responding to a year-old comment, but Sarah is brand new to me about a week ago, and I just can't get enough! Wow! She is definately one to keep my eye on...It's refreshing and reassuring to see that traditional Bluegrass and it's offshooots onto new progressive acoustic music is in the caapable hands of a new generation of stellar players. Thanks for the video and the info. I was certain that Sam was a DG progeny, and I'm not surprised to find that my assumption is correct.

  • Jarosz is great at mandolin, that guy on fiddle is great and so is that upright bass player. How old are all of them? I mean, they all look pretty young.

  • You really need to check out the version recorded by twoodburn at WinterGrass 08. It's different, bluesier and he captures her perfectly!
