Comparing Jesse Johnson and Prince is like comparing Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye. They are so great and so daylight and darkness from each other. I love 'em both but Jesse didn't get his props.

From the horses mouth the Time didn't leave Prince, he broke up their band because they became a monster that outgrew him. I'm not hatin' but the Time was a true LIVE band whereas Prince might have played his stuff or just had a lot of stuff prerecorded in concert. If anything people just get caught up in Prince being "cute" and very visual with the guitar. Jesse plays guitar like he done went thru some some rough shit in life. As for effects Vernon Reid is the Malcolm X of Rock guitar!

But let's not get it twisted: JJ is good, but he doesn't compare to Prince. Very few can not only play like Prince, but also preform like him. Remember, it was Prince playing the guitar during the first two Time albums, not Jesse. Listen to Get it up from the time. That's Prince, not JJ.

The CD int fact wasn't released until the early part of 1996 if I'm not mistaken.
