  • since when do we run 40s instead of 60s

  • that was not a 4.89 40 , more like a 5.1

  • good speed and location. I really like the movement on your heater!!! But aren´t you to young throwing a splitter?? I used to throw one at your age and the german national coach back then told me it brings to much tension on your forarm so I stoped throwing it.

  • 2.9 GPA haha

  • you have some great movement on your ball..and you have decent speed. your only gonna get better. the only problem i saw was that when you pick up your left leg your left foot is too stiff. if you let your foot hang you will get a more consistent landing.

  • @AAMartins26

    Thanks for the feedback

That is one of the things I have tried to work on because I do tend to fall off the mound at times.

  • holy crap my last name is mcCollum

  • Your splitter is a little bit faster than my fastball :P haha

  • Your too tall to be throwing side are , use your body and throw straight over the top !!!!

  • @TheMetsfan1986 sorry for not getting to this sooner about the arm slot ordeal i dont really get on this enough but to your ordeal about my arm slot... college and pro scouts have called me a 3 quater arm slot which is what roy halladay throws from... and i have tried throwing over the top my mph drops and i cant hit a thing... my natural arm slot is where it is... thanks for the comment tho

  • Nice pitching but just a bit of advice, don't lift up your back foot while your throwing it kills your velocity.

  • @tmart43 i was gonna say that thanks for saving my time haha

  • your staying up to much... bend over a little more... if u really 6.4 feet use it dammit dont stay up and throw sidearm... get some leg power in there... get a better strech with the legs.. use ur legs ull gain 2-3 mph easy.

  • you made a good point i hate seeing Tall guys throwing from the side makes no sense

  • @fufufournier That is what I was told later on that year and it was something I have worked on very much as the following year my stride was nearly 7 feet because of the extension i was able to get but i actually was over striding at that point. Now I found my center and it is going well. This video was done when I was 16 tho and I turn 20 in 2 months...

  • great stuff man hope to see u in the white sox org u have a knuckle curve similar to Roy Halladay it drops of the table I'm surprised u didn't go to a d1 college and don't get me started on Ur split could u tell me what glove u where using it kinda looked like a2000 but a 2.9 is a C so when people hate on u its jealousy so just keep doin what ur doin good luck :)

  • Thanks for the reply. Yes it is a a2000 I actually kept that glove for a good 3 years but now I just got a new one but same brand. One of the best gloves I have ever had! I had d1 schools looking at me but due to the high school I went to I did not get seeing till late and the new roster rule prevented me from going d1. As a seatle scout told me though no matter where you go we will find you. Thanks for your support!

  • Thank you to all those you have complemented on this video and I will even say thanks to those who have made constructive comments as well. For those who have made comments making fun of me well your the reason why I keep getting better. So thanks to all of yall! Keep supporting or keep hating either way I will still preform! Everyone remember one thing I was 16 in this video and I'm 19 now! This video is old so the comments about speed means nothing since I throw in the upper 80's to low 90's!

  • 2.9 GPA... NICE

  • haha

  • Very funny.. I like the joke... tell me you ever go to 3 high schools and one of your years is when you transfered to those 3 high schools? It would be hard to maintain a decent GPA... which I did finish with a 3.1 and 21 ACT which last time I checked wasn't to bad... At any cost I like the joke real funny

  • Haha, don't worry about your GPA kid... you'll be a pro eventually. You used the arm to get yourself to college, and learn something while you're there. Just keep getting that Vel up, the day our FB hits 94 and your splitty is in the mid 80's it's all about time from there! Good mechanics, awesome natural ability. Lets see some new vids soon!!!

  • @getup2nite Thanks, I'm currently working on new vids at the moment. I am hitting in the low 90's just at this point working on being an affect pitcher and just striving to be the best. thanks for your input.

  • nasty ass two seam. where'd you end up going to school?

  • I ended up going to Tusculum College a D2 school.

  • I really like the movement you've got on your fastball, you throwing a two seam or does it just do that? It's pretty nasty.

  • The way i end up releasing the ball causes the movement to be natural. My hand turns in a certain way which causes the movement. It is not on purpose just how my arm throws. Thanks for the complement!

  • u got wicked spin to tht fastball bro.

  • well that was over 2 years ago and im almost the same size and toping out in the 90's so the lack in velocity was due to not being developed at the time.

  • 6'4 190 and you throw 81-84....thats pretty bad

  • You wouldn't have been able to hit him. His Senior year he had 6 W 1 L, 59k's, 8 walks, and a .087 era. Now, that's really BAD!

  • high school's difficult to gauge tho, cuz especially if yer a senior, a lot of times yer playin against much younger kids

but yea, those stats are quite nasty! where are you nowadays?

  • Derek's birthday is 7-14-90. He graduated at 17. He was putting up those numbers against older kids. As a sophomore Derek pitched for the number 9 team in the United States and the TN State champions before he transfered. He 32 colleges that were interested in him and 2 Pro Scouts talked to him while in High School. Oh and I'm not Derek. Just know a lot about him and noticed you made a unwarranted comment about a video that was taken when he was 16. See ya!

  • try to extend your back leg before releasing the ball. will add 3-4 mph. focus on using your legs and don't drag the arm.. but looks real good..great movement

  • thanks that is actually something me and my college coachs are working on

  • You're amazing. One minor thing tho. just throwin it out there. your arm slot is a little lower on your splitter, check that out. other than that, ill be lookin for you in a few in the MLB big guy.

And i'm 15 and im 6'5'' and i weigh almost 200, altho i dont throw hard at all. it makes me mad. like, i max out at 73. im workin on it tho, im a lefty and my ball tails like hell tho. im convinced i have a mechanical problem. ill put up a vid later of my mechanics, could you take a look?

  • sure i will take a look at it... i actually have many problems with mine and am currently working on many of them. i actually had to remove the splitter because my current college coach thinks im to young to be throwing that pitch. once you get it posted tell me and i will take a look at it. i might have a lot wrong with my form but i know what to look for so hopefully i can help you out

  • yea. i threw a splitter/forkball, but my coach made me take that out. and i put a video up of my mechanics that i tweaked some

  • dude ur knuckle curve = nasty

  • Dude your pretty good I'm 12 and I throw about 61 and my curve is about 48.

  • you shouldnt be throwing a curve at 12. it completely destroys your arm. if you start throwing a curveball at that age, your max velocity of your fastball decreases 7-10mph. dont throw it til youre 15-16

  • tuccis28 makes a create point. At your age you shouldn't need a curve ball. Try to have a fastball and a change-up. When you get around 16 is when you should start using a curve ball. By your senior year try to have 3 pitches that you can throw for a strike affectively and you will do fine.

  • are you starting in college? and how do you do that kunckle curve

  • yes i am and if you want to learn to throw the knuckle curve look up paul riddick and he has some videos that would help you out more in figuring out how to throw it

  • dude, u can throw. U r an insperation to me. i wish that i could throw like u. ur a awesome pitcher. don't give up and good luck in college.

  • can i have your autograph please

  • ya just send me an e-mail of your address

  • u are going to be in mlb u are like the best high school picher u know how some times guys cant see what pich your throwing all the ball i can tell what u throw go luck in collage

  • im about the same as u i throw in the same arm slot a little harder but u have more off speed where im from every1 can hit the fast ball i have a better curve although urs was a knuknle it looked more like a changeup..im going d1 but good luck ur a pretty sound pitcher

  • thanks but just like to say that the video was made when i was 16 yrs old and a junior in high school.. i had d1 schools looking at me but i found a program that i liked more in a d2 school which we are one of the top teams in the country so either way it works out.. good luck to you in your career in college and not to come off harsh but im 18 now and you was talking up about yourself about me 2 years ago.. i throw harder the curveball is a gross now so ya good luck tho

  • i dnt take it harsh but im 16 now i skipped a grade so im a senior now

  • Whoa man, you have some serious skills. Pitching is your thing. Do not give up.

  • yea

  • Thanks! I signed with Tusculum College in Greenville, TN. They are a great Div. II baseball school.

    Good Luck, Derek

  • hey can i have ur autograph on an index card if i give u my adress?

  • hey can i have ur autograph i think u will make it to the majors as a pitcher!!

  • sure just email me your address and i will be more than glad to help out

  • haha filthy

  • dude u r skilz

  • looking good man. hope you got into the college you wanted. And did you develop any new pitches? as a sidearmer id imagine you'd have a nice slider.

  • he is awsome

  • Thanks for the comment. This was last year's video and I have changed my style a bit and am throwing in the mid to upper 80's. I have gotten stronger and more consistent and I have added a slider. This is my Senior year and I have talked with several colleges. I like Memphis, UT Martin, Middle TN State and Southern Miss. I hope that Ole Miss and Miss State see me pitch this year. See ya!

  • nice movement on the fastball are most of those 2seam. and i personally would use the knuckle curve you have as a change up. your a good pitcher

  • you're really consistent which is rare nowadays.......nothing overpowering but that doesn't matter anyone could hit a fastball...let it go though ur a big guy and it looks like u kinda restrict yourself throwin........what schools u lookin at?
