  • @Blunty3000 - Great review and video to show this product. I have the GoPro Hero HD2, but even with the head mount, it's not really compact for doing things like recording and/or sharing live things like working on one of my vehicles (for instance) while I'm talking on the phone and getting guidance. A device like this would be great for live POV instructions, as well as many other practical applications. Thanks for sharing!

  • do i need that earpiece thing or can i just get the app on my phone & record with my phone's camera

  • @SuperChicano95 That's an even dumber question than the one @Blunty3000 responded to in the top comments.

  • @PropellerBusted -_- i really dgaf bout this its just a question

  • @SuperChicano95 You clearly don't or else you would have put thought into what you were asking.

    1. If your phone already has a camera then there's an app to capture video. That app was coded to make full use of your onboard camera. 3rd-party apps are less than ideal.

    2. Why would you want an app for a camera—or to put it your way, "earpiece thing"—you don't have? How pointless!

  • @PropellerBusted Calm down you idiot. He doesnt give a shit -_-

  • @cincinatus90 ಠ_ಠ This is an A-B conversation. How 'bout you C your way out of it?

  • @PropellerBusted NO. Calm down.

  • @cincinatus90 No one is talking to you. Go away you busybody.

  • @PropellerBusted You are clearly talking to me. Now calm down.

  • @cincinatus90 Nobody asked you. I guess that's how it is for you. Everyone ignores you so you impose yourself on others. Lonely much? I bet this is the longest conversation you've ever had.

  • @PropellerBusted Why do you continue to talk to me? Calm Down.

  • @cincinatus90 Let go of my coattails. You shame yourself.

  • @PropellerBusted First you whine about me talking to you, then you wont stop talking to me. You need to calm down and stop whining.

  • "Was it worth buying?" No IMO. It sucks! One thing that wasn't covered is the difficulty in saving video to a PC. I can view my footage on my iPhone but cannot save the data to my PC. I live less than a mile from Looxcie headquarters so I may go knock on their door and return this POS.

  • @dskskb WTF? are you REALLY stupid or just trolling?. The PC/mac app is DEAD SIMPLE to use to transfer your videos across. If you can't "figure out" how to install an app then press a button in that app, you're a twit. Go "knock on their door", and watch them choke back the laughter at how impossibly inept you are.

  • @Blunty3000 It is not working how it should be and it is likely a bug in the device itself. Their CSR is a whole lot friendlier than you are, though.

  • @Blunty3000 Oh and HERE'S a good question... why did you find some video review to whine on BEFORE dropping a line to customer service of the device in question to see what the problem actually is? that's pretty fucking stupid too.

  • 480p ??

pretty useless as for now. It'll get more relevent in the future as they release new models with better battery life, memory, and most importantly HD capabilities.

  • lol@"ear-rape"

  • Excellent review especially since you took

the time for a great demo and overlaid the video with your audio with no waffle

  • "how stupid your child is" lol

  • Great review! Funny how you mentioned Sydneysiders not making eye contact...so funny, I totally agree! Thanks for all that info :)

  • You are the source of great info today. I had ruled this out but the killer feature is being able to extract any or all of past 4 hours. I thought you only had the 30 second option. Thanks thanks.

  • Looks like the best Looxcie review so far. It seems like a decent device overall, but I'll wait for the next few generations of this device for the improved versions. :D

  • NOOO! not the Samsung :(

  • so i just wanted to know would this be helpful if i wanted to run with it on?

  • Wow, thanks for this review! I wouldn't mind having this for when I travel.

  • lol..@ "how stupid your child is".

  • Hopefully a version 2 will come along soon that's smaller and black (to make it not stand out) with a better battery life. Sound quality mustn't be too hard to improve, after all, how hard is it to get a decent mic that's small? The new iTouch and iPhone manage it easily.

If it had those things, along with more comfort, i would buy one without hesitation. Very useful for lots of things - such as driving. It would be helpful in the event of an accident or a fine to have video proof there.

  • man, australia gets it shitty when it comes to gadgets and video games

  • 4:06 inifinte paradox! :P

  • I'm surprised not more has been written about it's use in situations like 6:16-6:18 on the video.

Good review Blunty. Very through and had useful info. Keep up the good work.

  • amazing, i really want one of these... but i think i will wait until they upgrade the video quality, battery life and audio quality. How long do you think it would take for them to make it a HD recording device with storage and battery for up to 15 hours at a time? That would be the optimal because people only are awake for 16 hours a day usually so that would allow people to record their entire lives with such a device. Any ideas people? In 5-8 years time? Is it even possible?

  • I love this for so many reasons. I want a stereo version of this so I could actually wear it (with or without dual-camera stereoscopic shooting). I'd also like it to be stereo so maybe they could auto-adjust for roll of the camera/footage, maybe in hardware, but at least in software. Replacing my headset with one with a camera would totally do it.

I could see this being awesome for tons of things. It's out of reach for now, but I certainly appreciate the vid alerting me to it's existence.

  • I was very interested in this after watching the vid, Ive always wanted a hands-free recorder or some type of small camera. I say was because I looked on their website and it says the Looxie costs 200$ american. Every vendor has it at 200.

The portability and hands free-ness is nice, but for the god aweful video and picture quality it is hardly worth 200 dollars. 100 would be the most I'd spend on it. I could spend $@00 and get something with ten times the capture quality!

  • They should put a larger battery/memory device in the part which sits behind your ear, that might sort the balancing issue.

  • i love your reviews blunty

  • spy glasses !

  • Samsung Galaxy S FTW :)

  • This sounds rather good for let's playing.

  • Epic review! I have this for a couple of months now and your review actually helped me a lot :)

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Blunty, Would you say the balance of the camera and the fiddly ear peice would become a big issue whilst jogging or running, or do you think if its played with enough it'll do as okay as it did for you?

  • Teds, really?

  • All Police should have these.

...and that guy at the top of the stairs at of Town Hall Station has been there for years. Does he know more than one song?

  • Where can I buy it. Amazon won't let me ship it to Aus.

  • Well at least its easy to import then Mortal Kombat.

(also is it just me that thinks this would make an awesome spy cam?)

  • expandable memory would be nice.

  • @NinjaSporkPirate It is already designed with more memory than it can actually FILL on a single battery charge... more would be useless.

  • @Blunty3000 in that case, a higher capacity battery would be nice.

  • future is coming, everybody will have one of this in their heads in some years your memory and privacy will be gone and usless

  • @quequien2002 How will our privacy go away? Most of it is gone as is, with government monitoring everything claiming it's for safety reasons.

  • Aaagh! The ear rape! The sound quality aside, seems like a neat little device.

  • Despite the hardware downfalls blunty what a great concept, the applications for such a device are endless, most notably when driving. Looking forward to later iterations with increased resolution, better sound quality and improved ergonomics. How much do these cost? Great video.

  • hopshopgo could be worth looking into Blunty for those items cant don"t ship easily to Oz. Well, thats been my solution anyway.

  • i hope cops don't start wearing this

  • @nicko198718 I think law enforcement use these kind of things already when at sporting events or planed protests and stuff.

  • @TalesOfWar yea i just got told that by a mate who got done for causing a disturbence at a footy game

  • @CarrattCake Maybe also act as some sort of 'black box' if you have an accident?

  • Just kind've curious but...Which ebay seller did you buy from?

  • I enjoy Blunty's reviews.

  • This might work for a secret shopper.

  • The Looxcie reminds me of the scouters from DragonBall Z.

  • @SonicGhost64 What does the Looxcie say about his power level?!?!?!

  • Put one on both ears for 3D!!!

  • Can you put one on both ears? Shoot in 3D!!!

  • look reel good see sum thing same

    0007 blunty

  • The Ghost Hunters need to wear those.

  • Looks like you liked that Nissan Skyline huh?

  • @kyringe What caught my attention about it was the fact it had an air-splitter on the front which was held on with electrical tape.

  • @Blunty3000 Should have used ducttape :-)

  • this thing would be great for doing live action fps

  • Very cool and the fact you caught something awesome (the unicyclist) proves its a great tool to have

  • Looks like a nice gadget.

  • go to a strip club it looks like an old bluetooth so they would most likely wont hassle you send the vid to me at dolawite@yahoo.com

  • Well, there we go. perfect ad right there;

"Catch those unexpected moments... like a Unicyclest, in Sydney Traffic."

  • can I strap this on my ski helmet?

  • This should be used by police, the military, Olympic runners and cyclists. That would be cool :)

  • Ohhh, what about two of them for 3D MODE!!!!!!

  • See you got you Energy Drink!! LOL

Those camera will just get better just like anything else. Ashame they aren;t "Certified" there Australia tougher on that? Maybe they don;t have enough Money to get it out so more countries.

  • Very interesting device you have there Blunty. Funny how they managed to build a cam corder that small with so many features. It may or may not be the best mini camera on the makert, I personally think it's the start of something big

  • Nowadays many people are walking around on the streets using wired earplugs. I don't think it would have been a big trade-off to have the battery externally connected via a wire in order to increase quality of the videos. It might even have decreased the weight of the device, making it more comfortable/easy to wear.

Maybe an extra camera (which, for example, can be clipped to sunglasses) wired to the iPhone is a better product in comparison.

    Just throwing in my ideas...

  • does the earpiece output any audio (eg play music from your phone) or does it just sit in your ear to hold the camera up. id love one of these for when i do airsofting but if it can output some audio as well id use it all the time.

  • can't you have it running constantly at 480x320 15 fps constantly, then press a button to switch to 640x480 30fps?

    seems like the best compromise.

  • How much did it cost to your door?? Most likely someone asked you down below in the comments, but I'm on my iPad and cbf scrolling forever to find the price! Thanks Blunty. I really want one now..

  • I want one! i see alot of random stuff going on in town would be great to capture it.

  • Nice review. I work as a security guard, so if an "incident" occurred then it would be awesome for having video to go along with reports. Any ideas how the video looks in low lighting?

  • @dragonmasterjg There is a "night mode" you can trigger via one of the apps, it's grainy, but usable.

  • Looks like a really cool bit of technology but I just can't see a use for it

  • @Ironballs69 seriously? "I just can't see a use for it".... You mean aside from the uses I spelled out right?.... *facepalm* so what's it like living without even a rudimentary vestigial scrap of imagination?

  • @Blunty3000 I think the second or third generation version when the quality is higher will be vastly more adaptable but it seems to me that the current version does not seem better than the alternatives already on the market such as low end cameras.

Sorry if I did not articulate my view point properly. I did not mean to come across as a flamer/hater.

  • @Ironballs69 But there ARE NO feature equivalent camera "alternatives" on the market, nothing out there does what this camera does in the way it does it... this is very literally a one of a kind product right now.

  • @Blunty3000 I agree that it is a really cool piece of technology because of how it works in terms of the instant/continuous recording but the technical limitations you highlighted do keep it to a niche product for now.

I certainly agree this is a product worth getting excited about for it's future potential though.

  • @Blunty3000 Not true, helmet and car cams have similar features.

  • @ArsonistInUrFirewall ORLY? awesome... So, Please mane for me the "helmet and car cams" that record on a constant loop, allow you to save instant clips or recover clips from the video buffer and connect to your Smart-phone via bluetooth to enhance functionality like instantly sending clips to Youtube, facebook or twitter..

  • @Blunty3000 I said similar, not the same. LEARN TO READ!!!

  • @ArsonistInUrFirewall So, please name one that is *similar* (in factors beyond "it's a little camera too derp") Seriously, if you think there's a product out there that directly competes with this - as was the point of the original comment that this is a "one of a kind" product - I'd love for you to let us all know about it.

  • lol the chinese guy playing outside of townhall across from KFC has been there everyday for the past week =.= i see him everytime i come out of the station

  • Hmmm... is the earbud/button bit "reversable" ?

  • @RyuDarragh He points that out in the vidoe...watch all before commenting twit.

  • @RyuDarragh Watch video, THEN ask questions. Why is that so fucking hard for people?

  • i wonder if it would work well by somehow clipping it to your sunnies, i know that cuts out indoor use but just in the way of helping keep the camera still maybe?

  • I'd wear it backwards, then i would literally capture everything that i missed.

  • If it was better sound and visual quality I would so want this! I would use it in the city, and catch every random moment. Maybe stop a bank robber or two. Lol

  • intersting idea that you can use the phone to view the image area with but i think i'll hold out for an HD version before i even consider it . they do have those also and i already have a keyfob recorder that inconspicuously does a better job than this one image and sound wise. lol

  • It would be very handy for security guards and shopkeepers...

  • Looxcie...great idea for perverts on the go

    Nah nah

Good camera for uni students that want to record their lecture and it doesn't make you look as much of a tool

  • Looxie

  • You created a paradox!

    3:55

  • Interesting little device, It kind of reminds me of the Contour HD or the GoPro, but a much more cut down version.

Have you done a review on the GoPro and/or the Contour HD? It would be good to see which one you think would be a better buy.

  • Quick question how many batteries do you get with the camera and how long does it have to charge for ?

Thank you for doing this review i was looking for a product like this for my work would help me out alot .

(oh and your a fellow platform 6 person lol)

  • @odeese The battery is built in and not user replaceable. Charge time is ~4 hours from fully depleted if you use a wall charger, from a USB port on a computer will likely take longer.

  • wow, you reminded me of Mr.Smith for a second, when you had that headset on :)

  • seems kinda unfair Blunty took the time to do a nice review of the Looxcie and the company didn't seem to want to help him at all.

  • with an 8Khz sample rate it won't record any sound with a freq. higher than 4Khz *shudders*

although I feel like it would work well with a cord that comes out the back of the ear hook that runs down the back of your shit to a battery and maybe storage and not having to squeeze all the hardware into the earpiece

  • That's awesome :D

They should make another one but the camera implanted in glasses/sunglasses, that way you wont have to worry about adjusting it to the right angle :P

  • Goddamn I miss Sydney.

  • if Apple made the Looxcie, it would probably be a hell lot better...mic quality wise for sure

  • Sorry to bring this down a bit but: Am I the only one to think "I could make some POV porn with this..."

Other than that Inapropriate crap: Interesting little gadet...

  • I suppose the Police could use this device... Possibly.

  • @vividmist You're just not looking at it like a photographer does. It's like when you get used to a smell, if you're exposed to something for long enough, your brain starts to ignore it because it isn't new information.... but those who spend lots of time behind a viewfinder tend to *actively* look for interesting images, scenes and compositions. When you see a photo, you're forced to see what they saw, how they saw it, so it stands out to you

  • i'll mount it on my dog

  • haha creepy people in the world.. UNITE!!! this item is for you... take it to the beach!!!1 :P

  • isn't it illegal to capture people with a camera without their permission?

  • @cs2sasuke150 Depends on the situation, and local laws.

  • I can't see the appeal of this especially as the go pro has beocme so popular

  • @DirectorToby The go pro is undoubtedly spits out a far superior image, but it simply can't do what this cam does - they're both designed, and intended, for quite different uses with wildly different feature sets and priorities.

  • @blunty3000 lol... was not paying attention at 7:50....

  • @DJZuon what happened at 7:50? i didn't see anything

  • pretty amazing quality for 0.2 MP

  • those were some nice cars you happened to catch there.

  • @firzennet Did you spot the one with its front "air splitter" held on with electrical tape? ;P

  • @Blunty3000 hehe at 1:26? yeah

  • i would love to see one for a left ear....

  • @DJZuon Watch video all the way through, THEN comment.

  • thats a cool camera although average specs

  • Wow! Sydney's got a monorail right above the street in town? :P I'm not saying the railline isn't sturdy, but it still seems a little dangerous to have to walk and drive right under that thing. ...What if it somehow breaks (as unlikely as that is), and the whole thing comes crashing down?

What's separating an average person's head from that thing when crossing the street? A mere 10 or 15 feet?

  • lol they thought it out preatty well. It doesnt move/rock at all when a monorail train goes over it and it very high doesnt really show it in the video. id say 20 feet +

  • mmmm sexy, and the camera's not bad as well.

  • So, would this be an acceptable and practical device to use when recording first person parkour/running or cycling ? or would it most likely fall off when i do a backflip or go over a bump on my bike?

  • @Blober112 A little body-tape, perhaps a headband or bandanna tied around your head over your ears to help top it shifting or flying off and you'd be god to go I'd say.

  • @Blunty3000 Should have looked it up first, would be cheaper for the go pro HD :/

Thanks for the response anyways :)

  • What is it like wearing it? I know you said it was a pain to adjust, but is it comfortable to wear?

  • @646Mando Comfortable enough... it didn't make my ear ache after a few hours of use or anything... but it's not exactly an ergonomic masterpiece either

  • Thats pretty nifty, I imagine something like that would come in handy for vloggers who are self conscious about holding up a camera and talking to it while out in public, where as with this, you would probably just be mistaken for someone talking on the phone.

  • What's the pricing for one? And is there a wire to connect to a computer rather than using it wirelessly?

  • @Korkage Right now, about $200USD + Shipping - slightly more if you have to buy on eBay like I did. And no, it's not designed or intended to be used with a computer (outside of the desktop software used simply for downloading the files)

  • Ooh! I forgot about porn. Just strap it to your thigh and go! :P

  • @MrFictive ROFLOL

  • Sounds like a fancy little prototype. And that's it. A prototype. I really wish it was a little higher quality. There's so much potential! I can see it being used for those that suffer from serious memory problems, too! Or, there's those people that hand out disposable cameras before parties, so everyone can take their own shots for the night! Hand out a Looxcie to everyone attending, and get a bunch of unique perspectives! I just wish the hardware was better. Its so close yet so far..!

  • wow, that's cool. it has huge potential. if worn during a driving accident, there would be video footage from your point of view. but then it also has a huge potential of misuse since it's a tiny wireless camera that records 5 hours to a phone.

  • ohhh i saw that on engadget a while ago in when it was just a render haha

  • badass

  • Cool! That would be fun to have.
