Rough seas on the USS Bataan during hurricane Hanna

Where is this at? I deployed on this ship last year with the 26th MEU when I was in the Marines. Good times! Ports in Europe and the middle east. We also did that thing the Navy does when they cross the equator.......good times! I know that ship like the back of my hand.

This was just off the east coast. How did you deal with motion of the sea? It seems like the last Marines that were onboard had a rough time of it.

Believe it or not we only hit rough seas once, and that wasn't even on our 6 month deployment. We had it off the east coast during stormy weather on a MEU workup back around late 2006, before we deployed in Jan. 2007. How long have u been on the Bataan? Maybe you deployed with me. But yeah, a lot of Marines couldn't handle it. They all had that little patch behind their ears. We're not used to it, we're on land all the time!

Sadly, I wasn't there then. I came onboard when the ship was in the yards..March of 08.

So what was your MOS? And please do translate into Navy.  AKA Rate.

The waves were so rough that water was entering the foc'sle through the hawsepipes (holes where the anchor chains run to the outside of the ship) and the 40,000 pound anchors were hitting the sides of the ship.
