  • This interview makes me smile :) Her humility here is awesome!

  • lmao the guy is head over heels for Mariah haha

  • the host was in love lol

  • she is soooo hot at this video

  • I miss Donnie Simpson and Video Soul...I just do.

  • "I Dont Think I'll Get Married 4 a While"....SMH..little did she know...

  • lol@the way that host is looking at mariah..you can tell he is really smitten by her. I wonder what his wife thought about this interview lol

  • she's cute and hot!

  • she likes black guys only

  • Baby Mimi :))

  • The 90's!!!

  • Awesome.

He was totally flirting with her

I think she was a little shy, nervous ...that's why she didn't do the note.she would totally do it now.

I don't think she was totally herself. We, fans know she's internally 12 lol

  • Cissy Houston sang that note on "Ain't No Way" with her Sweet Inspirations.

  • she should have do the high note for him XP

  • Donnie Simpson was voice of my childhood mornings..

  • I think she's more mature and uptight is because of Tommy. I mean he wants to build an image for her and maybe being that way is part of it.

  • weird how she seemed so much older, but classey and then she went the other way

  • that guy couldnt be more obvious, he was seriously infatuated w/ her lol

  • I Remember This Interview.. She was On Arsenio Hall First :) She Even Says So :)

  • Man.. i gotta say - she sounds SO New York here still!

  • Nice interview but I wonder why she didn't sing the note he asked her to. I saw Shanice singing whistle note on the Monique show last year when Monique asked for a demonstration. I like how she was humbled here.

  • @afoonu maybe she was shy...

  • LOL! Hes flirting at times! So funny to watch! Loved it!

  • What's song was that at the beginning?

  • @IQEllis there's got to be a way

  • this guy is so in love with MC

  • Lol she was so precious! Oh how cruel time can be to people...! I always used to think "wow when she has kids, they will LOVE when mommy sings...!!", however, with such little of that left, luckily you're too young at a certain age not to love everything mom does or say she sounds like crap

  • @ciarra06283 why do u say that? her most recent performances have been amazing (Christmas in Washington, and her ABC christmas special). If you'd seen those you would never say she has lost her voice. Her peak was in the 90s, but today she still sings better than anyone.

  • hell she wasnt lying when she said she wanted to be prepared. she released what, 9 albums in that decade??

  • Love her more today than yesterday! Such a talent.

  • mariah riding a bus?? haha i dont think she ever set foot on a bus after 1990

  • Mariah Carey was the best vocalist in the 1990's. Her debut album in 1990 is still my favorite. "There's Got to be a Way" and "Vanishing" are two of my fave songs on the album. Don't know why they were not released as singles. I wish she would return to her earlier style. Missing the 1990's Mariah!!

  • @bluemusicpeace you said they changed her, so how was my comment to you not relevant? As for who you were talking to, it, too, is irrelevant b/c when you post on here it's for all to see and respond to.

  • @bluemusicpeace LOL, please keep that paranoid, delusional shit to rihanna and lady gaga. Mariah doesn't hae the time for dramatic secret societies

  • Look at the Queen, so new and fresh faced. She was on her way to becoming an icon. Its funny to see how, in many ways, she"s the same girl now as she was then, especially in the way that she interviews.

  • lol ALREADY?? yup that second album came out the following year in 1991 - she does not leave people hanging she is very consistent with records

  • he keeps asking the same questions

  • now it's like the older she gets the more immature she acts....hehe not a dis! love her!

  • @onewubbs how is she immatire now? get bent!

  • @mcarey um lolly pop bling...duh! I still love her though

  • @onewubbs um, it's a theme, the fragrances are based off of candy b/c nick cannon proposed to her using a ring pop. Was madonna immature for naming her album hard candy and giving out lillipops with teh deluxe edition of it?

  • She's so shy! This dude is such a flirt!

  • I wish mariah would've done the ain't no way note.. she was really shy back then.. n dude shud get his facts straight.. cissy houston did that note.. whitney's mom not carolyn... carolyn wrote the song though

  • It hard to believe that it's been almost 20 years of MC!!! :-)

  • @SouthTexasGal830

i think its because her outfit and the way shes styled.LIke very official..Soo not her =)

  • she looks sounds so shy here, but now she is so not shy, big change

  • @wapagold. I like her much more now, she seems much more happier and confident and she seems to be more happier with her appearance.

  • @wapagold cuz she don't have tommy telling her how to talk, think, dress, act...she's her own person now.

  • she looks way older then 20. I say she looks 27 maybe 28.

  • @pinkpostergirl i think its because of her outfit and the way she is styled. LIke very official, jacket and everything.. Sooo not her=)

  • @JaninSweet1 um Im talking about her face. Yes your clothes can make you look older. But mariah has always had a mature face. Im 24 and older then mariah in that interview, and i still get mistaken for 16 even when dressed in business suit.

  • he talks like carlton lol

  • LOLOL i meant to give you a thumbs up. But slipped. That was funny and he does sound like carlton banks. LOLOL Alfonzo.

  • lol right :) its oke!:)

  • 15 millions albums but who'd of thought her combined sales would be almost 200 million.

  • Its funny that he said 15 Million albums, because--If I'm not mistaken-- that's how much that album went on to sale lol. he's psychic.

  • Good observation!

  • @CameronCourts illuminati!

  • @TaylorAmelia illumianti? Why would you call CameronCourts that? lol

  • @CameronCourts No. It sold 9 million.

  • @DriftwoodMusicNJM It sold 9 Million in the United States. It sold 15 Million World Wide.

  • Love this!! so amazing. To be honest, I miss this Mariah!! wow, she's so natural-looking.. gorgeous.

She just seemed more down to earth back in the early 90s.. more focused on her music - her voice, writing new material etc.. it seemed like it was all about the music back then and that's what i love. He's sooo sweet towards her!! he definitely had a thing for her - so adorable!!

  • I don't like her now to be honest either. Crap music, bad attitude if I am honest. Very narcissistic. The interviewer is a douche here.

  • wow! I miss donnie simpson i love this interview.

  • she was sooo classy and beautiful here...fast forward 20 yrs...

  • she should have married this interviewer guy... he is so smitten with her , its adorable lol.

  • @jpyu154 y cause hes black and nick was 2?

  • @KanyeisBest815 - no, because he seems like he is so taken with her and he seems like a genuinely nice guy. tommy mottola was the biggest douchebag to her.

  • Yeah. But unfortunately she already was with Tommy back in the days.

  • wow! she was sooooooooo raw and new! i loved it... on the last question though... about her future and marriage... she could have said... there's a 9-year old out there called Nick, who i will marry in the future... hahaha.. just kiddin...

  • @marikitna that funnyyyyy lolllll :)

  • @marikitna lol

  • I think alot of it has to do with her having a troubled childhood. She was never able to be a kid, when she was a kid because of all the turmoil in her family. Now though she's free to be who she is and have fun.

  • @

ImperfectAngelsCry - yea i think its also because her marriage to tommy mottola probably traumatized her... so her whole youth was lost, so now she seems to be makin up for lost time

  • That guy was clearly smitten by Mariah haha flirting all the way!

  • Haha yeah, Donnie was a flirt in a good number of interviews he did...but always in a respectful way!

  • Deffo! :) And what's not to like here, Mariah was darn cute. Still is.

  • @retrorhythms the host is soo sexy.... beautiful eyes...

  • i never pay attention to her accent long island that is

  • @MarilynFinland yeah he wasnt sleezy with it like david letterman or somebody LOL Donnie is always cool and respectful...also he really is just blown away by her voice, there was no one in the industry like her at that time, when she came out she came out big and just blew everyone away for real...not since minnie ripperton did anyone have a range like that

  • It seems to be that she was mature that time and not today... It's hard to say that when you are her fan (or... you were an hardcore fan of her music, her voice, her style and everything)

  • i was thinking the same thing, it seems now she acts younger now that she is older, im not nocking her though im just saying.

  • @homegirl5000 She acts younger now because it's part of her new image. Ever since she blew up again in 2005 you see her dumb herself down because she is trying to appear to the young teenage audience who requests songs on the radio and download songs. The difference between her and say a Whitney and Celine is that she still appeals to the young teen market and part of it is her barbie image. Unfortunately "mature" doesn't sell these days and they will categorize her as old and not "hip."

  • That's off.

She's not trying to dumb her self down, and the way she portrays herself now didn't start in 2005, it began back around 1997-1999

She just has an eccentric personality that's all. And as she became less controlled by her label, she was able to show it off more.

    :)

  • @CameronCourts How is it off when she does dumb herself down. She is very intelligent, but everyone thinks she's not that bright and just a "singer." She spoke more eloquently back then. But just because she shows more of her personallity doesn't mean that her record company doesn't have control of her. The launch of the last two albums are proof of that.

  • They have control over what she releases, but not over how she portrays herself.

Even when you listen to the stories of her high school years, they fit more so with the Mariah we see today, then the 1990 Mariah. Skipping class, wearing provocative dresses, throwing beer-parties. That's Mariah.

  • @RJJ12 you are so completely ignorant of who she is it makes this post a waste of time.

  • @mcarey How is this again? Did her record company not select her second single on her last album when she wanted Angel's Cry. Did Mariah not say in her first Rolling Stone cover interview that she is always having to curve what she says, right, I thought so. Go do your research on Mariah and her career "mcarey" before you come to me because I'm not a 05 bandwagon fan.

  • @RJJ12 Oh sweetie if you think you're about to let me have it behinf Mariah you're not. I've been a Mariah fanatic since Sweetheart so a bandwagon fan isn't me. AC was a shitty song and her instincts were wrong and IDJ knew that; it's a give and take she wins some and they win some. Of course in her first rollingstone interview she would say that, but that was a decade ago and she is on a new label, her life is completely diff so that doesn't really apply today as much

  • @mcarey I'm laughing at you, sweetheart video? Oh you really know her career. That's what I thought. New, AC was a great song and if the record company and all those "paid" critics were right then that horrible remake would have been a hit. Just like they were right about ByeBye, that failed to. That quote still applies today because she was being real. Do you think she is "herself" and not Mariah Carey when she is front of the cameras? Oh please, your gullible.

  • @RJJ12 I love your smug arrogance. You are who again that you speak as if you're the supreme authority on Mariah? AC is garbage, it's a rehash of an even worse song-I Stay In Love. That is the only thing I can respond to from you because the rest of your comment doesn't make sense. For whatever point you were trying to make, you failed.

  • @mcarey That's why IWTKWLI was a hit right, because the record company knew what they were doing, exactly. AC was a stand out track and so was ISIL. Both happen to be fan favorites and great lyrics. Let me guess, liked bullshit like Migrate and Up Out My Face-lol. I must have succeeded because you responded didn't you? You're so easily pressed.

  • @RJJ12 Let me tell you why I like tired folks like you: you're used to talking loud and fast with some people who are easily intimidated and a result you have an inflated sense of your own importance and/or ability to win a debate/argument. So when yo run up on someone on your level or superior you just start throwing all you have. 1st, I see that your attempt at giving me the business is becoming a staple event in your life which is sad so I'll have to end this immediately. 2nd, you're late :/

  • @mcarey Oh, and you can finally put your pencil down, I'm done lecturing for the day "Sweetheart."

  • @RJJ12 HAving shut you ego down, lets move on to the original topic, Mariah. ISIL and AC are at most polarizing songs, many fans loved it (blah) and many didn't. They were not universally loved ballads. 2nd UOMF was garbage, so I'm sure it was your ringtone all this past spring. 3rd Migrate was a good song actually, as evidenced by it managing to chart on the Hot 100 based off of iTunes sales, whereas shit like ISIL & AC were actual singles that flopped hard. Got it, "Honey"?

  • @mcarey The fans pushed for ISIL and AC to be released. I don't know what fans you know "dear" but they all loved those songs. They failed because they weren't promoted. I love how I got you all pressed. Migrate, a good song, just because it charted doesn't mean it's good, but I'm sure you were humming along to that autotuned bullshit. I love how you base quality on chart position. You keep responding and I keep shutting you down. You're not ready for the advanced class "lamby."

  • @RJJ12 i cannot agree more..music industry is a business...u should be able to do anything to sell your goods....

  • I love her natural color hair, dark blonde

  • Everyone, please pay attention to 2:30 when they talk about her maturity! Don't you think it's interesting how Mariah talks about how she's always been grown-up for her age, but now in interviews, she always say she's eternally 12?

Wow, Tommy Mattola really shredded her identity in the begining. I don't know who this woman is in this interview, but it's definitly not Mariah!

  • It is Mariah. She wasn't married to him then so he didn't have that much control over her. The old Mariah is totally different because she wasn't famous, no other reason.

  • totally agree-i feel like here she just wanted to make great use of her innate talent. then whatever happened happened.

  • interview Boring!!!!!!!!!! lol The Voice Speechlessly AMAZING!!Phenominal!!!!! but around this era she was controled by mottola but yea she was 20 in seemed like by actions(far as matureity level) she was 40 wow tho time really does just past u by

  • She's so pretty and mature. I liked her better back in the day.

  • I think how she is now and why she married Nick Cannon is because she wants to go back to when she was younger and feel young again

  • That's true.

  • then u like the fake mariah carey.

  • What's the song played in the beging of the clip ?

  • "There's Got to Be a Way"

  • thanxx a lot dude/babe : )

  • He is such a nerd. It's a good thing he has nice eyes.

  • see, the standard she set for herself. now her music is strictly for kids. that debut from her made me want to sing. oh well. i like this time machine. brings back memories

  • This poor girl was so so nervous lol...wow

  • wow, that's so funny b/c she totally hits that note in the new album. crazy!
