(Those who today believe CTR's teachings are Biblical still think that date is valid.) Second, Rutherford took over the Society, made profound changes, and THAT group became the JW's. Russell was long dead.
@broyomama C.T Russell and Nelson H. Barbour printed that the Lord made an invisible return in 1874 and would make a visible return in 1878. Later Russell made adjustments to these dates in his Watch Tower publications, proving Armageddon would take place in 1914. JF Rutherford also adjusted these dates in his publications and created a larger market for his publications by door to door book sales and radio preaching. The point is all of the dates are wrong.

@reslight Why did they purchase mansions in belief he was coming as they actually had property in belief that Jesus and the Apostles were physically coming and wanted them to stay there. Judge Rutherford actually used these properties so he could live it up whilst unknown to Witnesses. @TheJwhistory You are so factually incorrect, I am not sure where to start. So, I will just mention two items, as I have very limited time. First, the Lord's return date was 1874, not 1878. (Those who today believe CTR's teachings are Biblical still think that date is valid.) Second, Rutherford took over the Society, made profound changes, and THAT group became the JW's. Russell was long dead.

@broyomama C.T Russell and Nelson H. Barbour printed that the Lord made an invisible return in 1874 and would make a visible return in 1878. Later Russell made adjustments to these dates in his Watch Tower publications, proving Armageddon would take place in 1914. JF Rutherford also adjusted these dates in his publications and created a larger market for his publications by door to door book sales and radio preaching. The point is all of the dates are wrong.

@TheJwhistory I know of no instance where CTR ever taught the the Lord would return visibly, and in any fashion in 1878. If you know of a reference, please let me know where it is. Thank you. Russell was incorrect on some, but not all, of his expectations for 1914. His reasoning was incorrect on the glorification of the church, for example - an error he quickly admitted to. (How I wish many on "Christian" TV today would be as quick to admit their false conclusions!!) Thanks again.

You have no right to imply that 7,000,000 people, worldwide are simply JWs because they want to sin. It is true the Watchtower society lies, but so do many, many religions! That is why people don't know what to believe. The Watchtower society is insincere; but most JWs are sincerely lovers of God, just misguided. Although He was the Word (God Almighty...Revelation Chapter 1, 1 John 5:7..kjv) he was fully man as well. So I often see very ignorant statements that JWs make because the JW doctrines contradict their own corrupted bible. See the big problem is that JW teach another Jesus they obliously beleive in more than one god.There translation in john1 says that Jesus is "A" god, wich means more than one or another god, which means to me that there is two plural gods. they contradict them sleves. Jehovah God is one supreme being there is none like him is what JW teach however a god simple means another god that created the universe

@jntcollege you need to be more accurate. Does the bible say there are many gods and many lords? Does the bible say that satan is a god?..yes, to both. In Isaiah, a prophecy about Jesus says he will be called Mighty God. Not Almighty God..but mighty God. The word God literally means 'mighty one'..so, Jesus is CERTAINLY a mighty one..and so is satan..There is no other God like Jehovah tho..he is Almighty..he is the creater of all things.

When Jesus did not show up as Russell printed, Russell claimed that Jesus began HIS rule on earth in 1878. Russell lied about Jesus to sell books. Matt 24 says that the return of Jesus will be seen like lightning from East to West.

Russell could not possible have been expecting a physical return of Jesus in 1878. His book on the Lord's Return, printed in 1877, shows that he was not expecting a physical return of Christ at all at any time whatsoever.

@urinfamousr79 From 1904 to 1914, Russell was teaching that in the 1914 the kingdom would manifest itself as the time of trouble. Russell never spoke of 1914 as Christ's return, either visible or invisible. After Russell died, Rutherford developed the JW organization, and taught that Christ had returned in 1914. I am not with the JW organization and I believe Christ returned in 1874, and that we have been in the time of trouble since 1914.

@reslight Why did they purchase mansions in belief he was coming as they actually had property in belief that Jesus and the Apostles were physically coming and wanted them to stay there. Judge Rutherford actually used these properties so he could live it up whilst unknown to Witnesses. After Rutherford died and no Jesus, no Apostles, the Society quietly sold off the properties in hopes that no one would find out as they were ashamed of yet, another false prophecy.

@reslight Actually, Jesus did speak of a visible return. He said that they would see him come in the clouds. :) Mark 13:26 when speaking of the end times. Also Jesus said that no man knew the day or hour of his coming and that we weren't to follow anyone (false teachers and prophets) that said they knew the day and time or that claimed to have been the christ or seen him. Mat 24:36. Mathew Chapter 24 (the whole chapter) is enough to refute JW's from day one.

What many don't know is that the guy that wrote the NWT for the JW's was in fact an occultist and if I recall correctly, his wife was a medium and helped him with it. You may want to research that just to make sure I'm correct but I know I'm pretty close if not spot on about that.

I knew westcott and hort were both occultist and their texts came from Alexandrian manuscripts. Those manuscripts are what all these mutilated translations (NIV, ASB, ESV, and all the others) came from. The KJV is the only one that I use. At any rate, the JW's have serious problems on their hands.
