Guys, the song was originally written before On Through The Night, then it was a B side on Hysteria, I forget which song...then it ended up on Retro Active. I think it's a great song, can't understand how it never made it to a real album and I WISH DL would play stuff like this when I go see them live. When I go, it's the Hysteria show. I want to see Mirror Mirror or Wasted, or something like that tossed into the mix.
@nikko024 This song was NOT written before On Through the Night. I think you're thinking of Ride Into the Sun. Ring of Fire was written during the Hysteria Sessions. Ride Into the Sun was written for the Def Leppard EP, their very first release.
@goobersrock90 You are right, I was thinking of Ride Into the Sun. Ring of Fire was the B side to Pour Some Sugar on Me. I'm not sure exactly when the original song was written. Either way, I'd love to see Def Lep do a concert like other bands do...where they set it before Hysteria. I love the loyalty for keeping Rick Allen in the band BUT as a drummer, I'd love to see another drummer there. Bad Catch 22.
@nikko024 I read somewhere Joe wrote this about a bad night of Mexican food and that he wrote it during Hysteria. That being said it was the B-Side to Armaggedon It and remixed for Retro Active, the most obvious part is the intro seeing as on the B-Side it was a fade in, and the Retro Active version it was not. Also the false ending on the B-Side.
@nikko024 This song is not that old - you're thinking of Ride into the Sun - it was a B side to Animal, and yes 0 it's a great song but when Lep ended their partnership with Steinman and reunited with Mutt they agreed to scrap all of the songs they had written before Mutt came back.
Stop stroking your own egos on who knows what and remember this band has been rocking since 1978. I still kneel down to them after all they have been through, they will always be NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!!!!! They cover all the different grounds of rock that there is. So just love it and be quiet and listen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@bobbigboss111 Do you realize how much rehersal they go through before they go on tour?. I would of loved a chance to see them in concert back in the 80's..!!.

Hmm....Too bad Joes Voice isnt what it used to be. also, Steve would have been better at this song live than that Sasquatch in the corner, make up your own solo, if you can. There is absolutely no life left in this band. Def Leppard is my favorite band, but not this Def Leppard.
Ok, skippy. Before you go and insult my intelligence on my favorite band, let me say this. And i say this with enunciation, not yelling, ok? PHIL DID THE FIRST SOLO IN THE SONG. STEVE CLARK DID THE OUTRO LICKS. IF YOU UNDERSTOOD MUSIC AND HIS STYLE OF PLAYING YOU WOULD SEE. Now, where was I? oh yeah. How am I a loser by saying this band has lost its mojo? Its true. A lot of people who are in denial, need to realize they will never be the same. I had to cope with that thought..
Well, first of all, so we understand each other, I did my masters thesis in music business management at Berklee College of Music--partnered with the University of Arizona because Berklee in an undergrad school--so I think I know a thing or 5000 about music dickhead. The subject of the thesis was the production of the Hysteria album. SFTSL was their best sounding and selling album since Adrenalize so you are indeed full of it. Vivian Campbell is an amazing player also.
Good for you Mr. Me Monster ...Brag about being a decent human than a stuck up college boy .................. We mortals don't need a college degree to know good music ...... To me you are like a used cup of starbucks coffee ...
@JPMusiclife your right, I have the retroactive album that proves it. Phil does solo, Steve does outro licks. I always kinda figured it was Steve at the end anyway, just sounded like his style.

This song still sounds really great...Joe struggles a bit, but I love the rasp to his voice. It's grown on me. Still the best frontman in rock music as far as I'm concerned.
Phil has some of the fastest fingers I've ever seen-amazing. Yes, Steve was fantastic, but Viv is doing well with the band too-16 years and counting. At least they're still making music. Hope they're around for a long time. And why aren't they in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet?
