  • Hi Martin, I subscribed to your channel today. I'm the red-head that went to Aloes with Tormus1, class of 75, and sang in the "girls" chorus of the 71 recording with you. Great to hear you sing in both this and the 2004 recording. I am very sorry to hear about Anthony. My girl Denise went to school at Loreto Normanhurst, same as the Wallington girls but in earlier years . We picked grapes from their winery in 1998 for them to make a fundraiser Chardonnay for the school, Regards Michael Beattie

  • @michaelbeattie58 Hi Michael thank you for your note and I have subscribed to your page. I remember you well and am in regular touch "Tormus1" lol! Anthony's death was a great tragedy and I can't believe it is nearly 8 years ago already. The special concert we had in 2004 was a wonderful night. I am in regular touch with the Wallingtons and have visited the farm 3 times, sadly after AW's death. Best regards Martin

  • That was great fun to listen!

  • Marty my friend : Gerard sent this by. What fun! I love it!

I didn't know you knew each other. What a small world we have here!

Margaret will be with you soon too - yes?

    Blessings ever......

  • @PhillipLWilcher Thank you Phillip and great to hear from you. Margaret is in Paris and went to an organ recital in Sant Sulpice this morning and will stay with us on the 18th. How are things? Have you been composing?

    Warm regards

    Marty

  • @expatmartin Margaret is wonderful! She knows music - yes?

I have been well as I hope you and yours have been. I've been writing a lot of music, mostly piano, trying more and more to reach some greater essential . It's a rewarding journey. There's a string orchestra piece I can't quite settle on either but it's slowly revealing itself somehow.....

    Blessings friend!

  • Thanks for this, Martin. I was there in the audience as a young student in 2nd Form. I still have the programme and copy of the 1971 Aloysian! Those were the good old days and Leo Packer conducting! I vividly remember Cardinal Gilroy's visits to the G & S opera. Thanks for sharing those memories. These and memories flood back to me each time play on the College chapel organ.

  • @tormus1 I meant - these and *other* memories!

  • I hope, Marty, that you didn't mind my pathetic attempt at humour and rather heavy-handed attempt to big-note myself as the person pounding the ivories in your 2004 recording. I didn't take any photos on the night and I don't have any taken by others. I'm sorry I can't oblige. The one you posted is excellent, although it doesn't include everyone who contributed to the evening. ... ... Thanks also for the image of Anthony in his Mikado costume.

  • thanks Gerard and no worries. I think Ross Jones might have taken some and will check. Can you believe that it was 6 years ago that we all got back in touch and had the first concert?

    ciao

    Marty

  • It's hard to believe. Let's hope we can get back together before I'm pushed there in a wheelchair *chuckles* If Fr Ross Jones took some photos and can make them available this would be a bonus!

  • @gerardbedecarter Thanks Gerard. I know Marty. Wow - we have a trio of friends here right now - that's great!

  • Thanks Margy and Gerard for the comments and info. Gerard I have added you in as accompanist, sorry I didn't put it in before. Do you have any pics from the night? I only have one of the finale.

    ciao

    Marty

  • Melvyn Morrow is second from the right in the back. Marty is to the left and in front of Melvyn. Can anyone put names to the others? Melvyn was the MC for the evening. Melvyn and I graduated from St Aloysius College in 1959.

  • Come to think of it, I was being somewhat whatever in rating this as awesome in view of the fact that I was the accompanist for Marty's 2004 rendition. I therefore notionally remove myself from that rating! My rating of Marty for both renditions (and his accompanist in 1971 -was old Bill Caspers still officiating then?) still applies, or course!

  • The audience showed by their applause that they really enjoyed your rendition, Marty!

    ... ... ... ...

Thanks also for the tribute to Anthony in the form of the photo taken on Margaret and Anthony's farm at Canowindra. It was not so very long after this that Anthony was tragically diagnosed with pancreatic cancer to which, after a brave struggle, he succumbed.

  • Image at 5:12 to 6:19 The accompanist to Marty's rendition is the person in grey (SAC 1959) standing to the left of the person in red and directly behind Jonathan. The accompanist is pleased to be able to advise that his pounding out of the accompaniment to the chorus of the Mikado's Song gave acute tinnitus to the remaining moths in the ancient Steinway formerly owned by Cyril Ritchard!

  • Thanks for posting this, Marty!

  • It was all there ...and you've cultivated and nourished the talent over years of dedicated hard work, Marty. Mikado sounded good in 2006 too!! :) Love live G & S!
