I think all the unwarranted criticism of the USN band is from one thing.......envy. Most powerful navy in the world. How many nuclear powered aircraft carriers does the Royal Navy have in service? The USN has nine.

@SpeedyNeutrino43 Yes...but then we don't have a massive Empire to police anymore do we. Why have a huge naval force with millions of nuclear warships, when you can send a small inflatable boat with 6 Royal Marines in it to deal with a situation.

Also I don't think the Royal Navy can "envy" the US navy seeing as they get on so well.

@LordWellington15 Just saying man, but that first question "Who was the most powerful navy?" Was is the key word there. Rome was the most powerful empire. Germany was run by the Nazi party. Was doesn't mean still is. I still respect the British Navy, but today there really is no true powerhouse of the seas as every country seems to pretty strong now.

I wonder why the British band carries music with them when they march. I'd think that a band of that type would memorize the music the way we had to when I was in my college marching band. Notice that many of the bands had their music memorized. Reading music as you march is a hinderance to precision.

The British band here seems to be a professional dedicated band unit. The other bands look like ordinary troops who fill in as a band on occasion. The USN troops were all in ordinary Navy uniforms. The British band unit all had special band uniforms.

@VictorLepanto no...the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines is made up of Royal Marine Bandsmen......they are all trained professional marines but they belong to the HMRMBS. they regularly deploy on operational fighting duties.

Pretty interesting. thanks for posting. I feel a little bad for the U.S. Navy becuase we used to have a really nice uniform. But it lessened in tradition and looks. For exsample the hat used to be a blue wool flat one.(it looked like the brits white one but blue and wool. But thats just one mans oppinion.
