I love this performance, but every time I watch it I have to fight back tears. I was about 10 at this time, and I was so looking forward to being like those wonderful young people in the audience. The future seemed so bright and limitless. America was truly enjoying a golden age. But then, just a year or two later came the JFK assassination, the Beatles and drugs, Vietnam, and feminism - and it's been all downhill ever since.
I just wonder if there those who were in this concert who come and see this video again what feeling about it ...the one who sat beside you...where is he now is there tears in your eye....??? Four strong winds that blow away our youth ...did it blow away thier friendship..?? Can any one who is still there ?? please write to me ...!
After all these years I still love them ...The brothers Four ... ! I love you !!

Before you call anyone "uninformed", you may want to check your facts. This was written by Ian Tyson, and originally recoreded in 1964 by Ian with his then-wife Sylvia as "Ian and Sylvia". This version is much closer to their version. I'm a Bobby Bare fan, too, but his 1965 version is badly over-produced.
@TGS556 Thank you. I always like to find the original artist and original version of a song. I had heard some things about Bare's version making such an impression on Neil Young, and I just figured that was the original. It's good to know the truth. Maybe this version and the Ian and Sylvia version (which I gave a listen) would have had a chance with me if I'd heard them first. But how it stands now, I much prefer the changes that Bare made to the melody.
This was the first song Ian wrote (of hundreds). Even then the cowboy flavour is there.
The Brothers Four bring their talent for harmony and arrangement to the table.
For those below carping about Obama, I am not sure what improvement you are looking for but I don't see better on the horizon as yet whatever his "failings" are pervieved to be. I have watch many come and go over the last 60 years.
Some pride, community and less "stuff" would help all.
@MegaPepper123 You must be dreaming. Maybe you drank the Obama Kool-Aid. If you think we are better now than those days, then you need to wake up and smell the crap. I hope you do.
one of my favorites even this is from my father era .... sometimes i feel live in that era too. i still keep searching EARLY MOURNING RAIN but never find.. anybody has and upload, would be great
man,oh,man........what ever happened? what a beautiful performance.........we all had our hopes so high for a better world. we were gonna change it all...........just makes me want to cry to see everyone so together, so caring, so young and idealistic. it just hurts to look at all the brotherhood on this video and then see where we are today.
@LuTubeified...We are not living in the past (I get that all the time.)That which is beautiful & meaningful has no "time." It is here to be enjoyed despite the criticism of those who are living by superficial thinking. Live on, my friend!
I'm 58 and this music still moves me deeply when I hear it now. Were this music playing on the radio today I believe it would find a whole new audience falling in love with it as we did. My friends tell me I'm living in the past. But I simply say this music is timeless. It's power to move the human heart endures.
@LuTubeified You are not living in the past, but like me want the world to be like it was before, loving and caring before it went down the tubes. I am in my 20s
Perhaps many fans don;t know that Bob Flick, the bassist married Loni Anderson in later years. Loni Anderson happens to be also one of my favorite artists. Nony Sablay, M.D. ( ret ) North Las Vegas, Nevada
I like this song. It reminds me of my years at Alderson-Broaddus College. We had a group of students who always sang this. In the video, I find the facial expressions so interesting: intent on listening to every word.
I just love the Brother Four Group , begining with the original members . I was only 25 when this folk singing became increasingly very popular in 1956. Of a sudden I am 79 abd I am still crazy about the Brother Four and their music, My favorite number is 4 strong winds. Nony Sablay, M.D., FACA ( ret) North Las Vegas, Nv.
I never heard of them, let alone this verson of this classic song. I'm sold and will be getting music by this wonderful group. Thanks for posting this!!!

It is amazing to witness how the audience genuinely blended into the hypnotic harmony so well at the end of the moving show.

This is awful. For the uninformed, check out Bobby Bare's original version. I like the BF, but seriously, I think this is downright terrible.

@rb62470 Wow! An intelligent, measured, and reasonable reply. What a rarity on Youtube!
I think if U had heard the Bare version first, I would have preferred it, too. His versions of Detroit City and Streets of Baltimore are my favorites

too slow, sounds like a hymn; not bluesy enough. Tyson of course, does it best. Judy Collins also is super;.

Thanks for posting. Yes, look at the faces, it's a different world today in the music scene.
