Well, I'm 8 episodes in and I have to say I'm hating it. Matt Smith is a very good actor, but he's being given absolute drivel to work with. Its become "Doctor Who - EXTREEEEEEEAAAAAAAM!!!!!!" with contant manic running around, characters babbling incoherently, heavy handed plotting, written for people with ADHD.
I hope it gets better soon, or I'm removing it from my series link and waiting for the next incarnation.
Gotta say, I'm rather thrilled at the amount of women actually interested in this programme. Hurray! Meanwhile, eps 1&2 were rather brilliant, IMHO, but ep3... well, I felt sorry for Gatiss, as he was given the thankless task of re-introducing the Daleks. Am also sorry that they shaved off another 3 minutes on the programme's run-time, just to make it easier, I feel, to sell to broadcasting channels elsewhere (you know, 22 minutes worth of commercials in a broadcast hour).
Yes, Matt Smith WAS 26 at the time of his casting as No. 11, but that was a year ago - so that makes him 27 at the time of "The Eleventh Hour's" airing.
i still miss david!!! waaaa!!! btw there may be a doctor who.... wait for it.... MOVIE!!!! if there is you will see me at a dublin cinema dressed as a dalek..... yeah.
actually, I liked the new doc (number ten) right away. My mum thought the smile from right after he regenerates and says "barcelona" was really creepy, but I found it totally awesome and spent the next week in front of a mirror trying to smile like that (yes, I know, I'm weird) but I am very much looking forward to number 11
Too young? No. Peter Davison, the 5th Doctor was only 29 when he appeared as the Doctor. Matt is 27. His hair? What can only be described as a "Flock of Seagulls" hairdoo suits the Doctor perfectly - with a hint of 80s nostalgia.
nice to hear ur opinions on the 11th Doctor...right now, i think he's gonna be interesting cos he's got the mad professor look, his outfit just totally reminds me of Patrick Troughton (2nd Dr)
ive actually met Matt, he's a fantastic guy..really great to talk to, cos me an my mates were down cardiff an we were gonna go looking for him an there he was
as soon as we saw him, we were like "OMG ITS HIM!!" lol
but yeh, cool vid; nice to hear a Doctor Who fan's opinion :)
I think there's always a bit of Who Dislocation Syndrome (WDS) when the Doc regenerates. I didn't take to Tennant at first but now he's my favoritest Doctor ever. There's always an adjustment period. I welcome Matt! Peter Davison was 29 when he took the role so people can't knock Matt's age. They just have to write him right...
When I saw the 9th doctor regenerate I didn't like the new doctor at first, but as time went on I found myself thinking that he was AMAZING so mabey the same will happen with Matt Smith (I hope so)
I've never seen Matt Smith in anything, but I trust in Steven Moffat's guidance. He made me chuckle greatly with "Coupling" and every episode he's written for Dr Who has been class :D
I've never seen anything with Matt Smith in it, but I'm excited about the prospects. People said that Peter Davison was too young, but he proved to be a fantastic Doctor in his own right. So, I'm reserving judgment until I see him as the Doctor.
I really really hope that he gets a boy as well as the pretty girl, I want a little less emo romance from the show, not that I haven't enjoyed everything they have done (minus Human Nature)
Oh good, I was really worried you were going to say you didn't like him ^__^ I am so excited, I saw him Ruby In The Smoke and the other one ^___^
He's lovely, I just cannot wait, and the Confidential was lovely. I know I will like whoever they pick, but seeing it was Matt made me squeaky in the best way ^__^
Your reaction is exactly the same as what mine was when the confidential originally aired; i remember being manicly excited he is amazing and absoloutley perfect for the role! I too am on a mission to watch everything he's ever done! Although my doctor was CE not DT lol
I hope matt smith is gonna be a good doctor. I just don't think it's posible he's better then david cause, well, he was amazing! but I wish matt good luck cause I need, want him to be amazing too!
I read somewhere the, frankly ridiculous, rumour that Karen Gillan is playing a young River Song (which may be belivable) but also that Matt Smith ISN'T playing the Eleventh Doctor but is in-fact playing an age-reversed Tenth Doctor, so in a sense playing young Tenth (which is ridiculous).
RTD has said it won't be as straightforward a regeneration as we've seen but that's ridiculous!
1. Not that concerned really. Can you imagine another William Hartnell these days? It'd never happen. Too many stunts to perform in modern shows.
2. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..... O.o it's a male character but I'm not totally against the idea of a fem Doctor someday. It's a bit unlikely though.
3. Yes but it's curvy, not spiky so it's hardly identical.
4. I want to see him be more unphased by everything rather than crying and angsting and all that.
Matt Smith will be brilliant, but he will never be as good as 10 David is the best Doctor there's ever been and he's my Doctor! I don't really wanna think about Matt taking over too much, just yet because I don't want it to ruin Davids last episodes for me and David is still the Doctor! I'm also goning to try and avoid watching anything with him in too because I pretty much did that with David and Chris too, I want to see how he does as the Doctor not be judgeing him on past performances!
the shock of it, he just popped up and started talking and i was like"could it be?", and then immortal words popped up and, literally screamed.anway, not too young, the more male the better, tennant/baker mix hair, he could be given cut, quite liked what he wore in the interview, but plain white t-shirt would be interesting. so many thoughts!
ECCLESTON is the Doctor, though Tennant was enjoyable at times and this new kid I'm not judging. Tom Baker's great. My problem with Tennant and this new guy is that the Doctor should look older not 900+ but old enough so you can think this guy's lived a while seeing some things throughout a few decades.
I agree I hated David Tennant. I just figured you liked him, alot of people that love David Tennant aren't fans of the show and just like him so they don't know or dig any of the past Doctors. Good to know you know something about the show.
I am waiting and holding my breath LOL I want to know how it turns out I am a big Tom Baker / David T fan I think they are the best Docs so far! By the way did you know Matt has a page here on YT. I so Chris E first and it was hard to Adjust to David T, then I went back to see all docs and I vote that Tom and David are the best!
I like that he's young. I'm interested to see how he'll do.
Too male? No clue. Not at first impression but we'll see.
A boy companion would be cool...interesting to see the dynamic. I think that's the most important thing. A beautiful actress with a great pedigree could still be horrible if the dynamic is weird.
I will most deff miss David also. I started watching with Christopher aka 10th doctor, and was hooked from the 1st episode. I rlly do think that Matt will do a good job. He better anyways otherwise he will have a humongo amost of mad people after him...but no pressure. Can't wait for the specials to air over here in America and for the 5th season to air also.
p.s. - if you do find out when they are airing here could you be so kind to drop me a comment here on youtube. thxies.
I agree with what you said about how it would have been more fun to be surprised when the episode airs. I remember when #9 turned into #10, I was totally stunned, because I didn't know they were even going to replace him. I'd have to say that David Tennant is probably my second favorite Doctor. My first is Tom Baker. :-)
ten will always be my doctor too :( matt has alot to live up to and i dont think he will be that good but lets see what the future holds... i proberly wont watch doctor who anymore when 11 comes, i will revert back to watching torchwood :D (jack :P) p.s. id love david tennant to write me a letter too!!!
People will get use to Matt Smith n get to liek him i guess cos he is prob doing it for 5 year thatl let ppl develop a liking posibly. but michelle ryan in d.t special.. mygod she cant act!!
What I am looking for in matt: FUNTIMES. I liked him in party animals cos he was funny and fairly adorable so I can see him as like a fuzzy fun doctor. Not sexeh like david but close perhaps.
Also "as long as they don't get a companion that sucks." LIKE MARTHA. I don't know why but god she annoyed me.
I think he's a very interesting choice. An unkown is a great idea. And he does have "the face" doesn't he? I think Matt Smith will show age old wisdom very well, and of course he'll have the energy to cope with the tough schedule. I wonder if the Eleventh Doctor will be annoyed he's not got ginger hair? And what do you think his new outfit will be like?
The programme has always moulded around the main actor, so when the writers and directors really get to know him we'll have some classics...
I have been thinking, but I think I figured out what David wrote to him. "Beware of the hostile flamers and evil haters. Ohhh, WHY are they making us wait for the 5th series? I can't wait for this all to take place. I am excited for the regeneration even though I'll miss 10~!
he can go one of two ways: kill it or live up to the name. I think being the Doctor is a highlight in any actors career, and perhaps he is slightly too young. But he's got this fun about him, but a seriousness, and I'm really eager to see that.
In an unrelated matter, you're pretty good looking ;):)
Costume-wise I think he should wear the same outfit that he's shown in in the recent publicity photos next to the Tardis (black slacks, black sweater, black wool jacket). It suits him better than Ten's brown and blue suits and is kind of an homage to Nine's outfit
Steven M wrote some of the most memorable episodes of the entire new Doctor Who Series. I know people rate RTD and we are happy he brought Doctor WHo Back but I really think now Steven M is at the helm you are going to see a gothic Doctor. My Cousin is a Teacher and she has even started a Doctor WHo Fan CLub. I just don't want it to be Doctor Who Hollyoakes Style. I hope he keeps the mystery of the character.
i just dont like him no matter what but alot f people have said that and said that they and dissapointed and david tenna will allways be my doctor no matter what!
1. no 2. no 3. yes, but it's amazing 4. i have no idea 5. i haven't seen anything with him in it :( i guess i'll have to start watching 6. a brown suit, a blue trenchcoat and white converse. :( 7. try not to be too sexy. 8. i miss rose. :'( 9. oh, girl definitley 10. yes. 11. i hope he keeps allonsy allonso.
1. way to old 2. oh very 3. the copycat. 4. Tarzan call. 5. spaghetti. 6. pink cat suit with giant red buttons and a blue mexican hat. 7. 'be afraid...be very afraid' 8. a Cyberman/Dalek horse with a Spanish accent. 9. what did i just say? 10. nah 11. ''eat soup scum!'' ''yahoo TARDIS AWAY!'' ''DAMN THE Torpedo's!''
im very sorry i could not resist! well we will see how this guy does. dr Who is the last real action/adventure show and im sure it will be fine...wen is the next special?
point is: just make good movies and shows and dont spent so much for one group. (say age) make it good and people will watch...well i can dream cant i?
In relation to the Companion role, quite a few people are mentioning Emma Watson, but for me she would be quite divisive. Now I reckon Deathly Hallows filming will probably get in the way so it's unlikely that any HP actress is in the running for companion, which is a shame because I reckon Natalia Tena (Tonks) would go well with Matt's Doctor.
so you are a tory student well thats what YOU said you have a poster of David Cameron with the posh Harry Potter scarf.
the new so called Doctor will be worse than David Tennant, they had to use old monsters like daleks, cybermen, ~Davros and Sontaron, they even copied a Scooby Doo character in the library episode, the new Doctor Who is for babies, students like yourself and toddlers, who dont have a clue about sci-fi, you need to wake up to reality!
RTD chooses to reuse some old characters because he himself is a huge fan of the original show, he sees it as a tribute to the show he grew up with and loved.
How... ironic is it that you should tell somebody to 'wake up to reality' for, uh, not having a clue about science fiction? Seriously?
I can't say if I like him..he first has to proof me that he is worth playing the Doctor!
I don't like his hair and it doesn't look like David's at all. I hope they cut it.
But what really annoys me about him is that he has no eyebrows!! After David Tennant's brilliant brows a Doctor with none at all..is that gonna be good? O.o
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You are talking out of your ass, you are just like Matt Smith a posh rich tory Student, watch the older Doctor Who classic dvds, i hope the new Doctor who gets scrapped .
Dirtyold, I'm not rich, I'm not posh, and I'm most certainly not Tory (though I believe that in a liberal society we should accept political parties even if they don't hold views we agree with as long as those views don't include genocide or something). I've watched classic Doctor Who, I'll have you know, and I think Tom Baker is great, but he regenerated, so deal with it.
I realised just after making this video that I'd seen him in that! I liked him in that too. Yeah, I like Moffat's writing in general; his stories are among my favourite, but I'd like to see a large sense of scale from him, some big space stories.
8. A girl, but maybe a really messed up, morally questionable girl who is sorta lost, like an orphan, type.. but maybe a human one from a different planet.
9. Human but a human maybe from another planet, crash landed on earth or whatever, that would be fun, maybe even two companions. A brother and sister or something.
10. human
11. "Get out!" (like the the "You've got to be joking" meaning) "I'm losing it!" (When ever he is mad) or "Hasta la vista"
1. He is a bit young, but it doesn't matter since he is really 900 years old
3. He has aLOT more hair, like Huge hair. I think it will be kinda funny to see really.
4. Personally I want to see him walk a razors edge. Be a darker character, since his alone, maybe even more bitter and angry. Bring a sort of darkness with him and a power.
5. I really LOVED the Ruby and the Smoke, how Ironic that he was my favorite character in it.
6. semi-casual. Like suit jacket and T-shirt and jeans.
Okay... I am SOOO excited about this new Doctor too! I look at it as a chance to meet a whole new Character. I LOVE Tennant, but I loved Eccleston more, so I already shed my tears for MY Doctor. I will miss Tennent though. But... THAT said...
you know what he's gonna be absolutely amazing, hopefully alot darker, more ruthless which we saw sparks of within the 9th doc and a contrast from David. Because Tennant has made his mark and nobody could dare try to go one up on it. I would like him to have a long coat again, there's something very timelord-y about it. Oh i am so excited... i was running around, bounding with energy the whole of yesterday. I'm happy it wasn't somebody famous, and who can complain that he's got fantastic hair?!
8. River Song! Maybe. I want to know her story lolz. But maybe otherwise... Emma Watson? Oh, I don't know!
9. Girl. But a boy would be fine.
10. I reckon human, yeah. Or at least humanlike.
11. Not gonna try lolz.
You know in Confidential he was very expressive with his hands and moved his fingers a lot, I think that's a very Doctorish thing to do, and really convinced me that his persona will work fantastically :)
4. I guess I kinda prioritise the sensitivity and like the way Ten can be so fun and crazy, but also so sensitive and aware, so that's what I'm hoping for with 11, but I'm not worried. He has a kind of depressed, sensitive, dark look about him I think, and I like that a lot.
5. I haven't seen anything with him in it yet. So pass.
6. Something modern and stylish, like designer (or designer look) suits or something. As long as its not ridiculous, I won't mind.
1. Not at all 2. Not at all 3. Slightly 4. His take on the Character 5. History Boys 6. I think he'll end up in skinny jeans or something... 7. His number, I want it. 8. Someone unknown but brilliant 9. either 10. yes 11. WONDERFUL
3) Hair - He has a very similar all round structure to david. In terms of hair, body etc. So there could be a danger of a horrible mimic! But hopefully not!
4) Prioritise - Hmmm not to sure!
5) Wear - *Jokes* How about nothing! :D
6) Favourite Thing - Ruby in the Smoke or Party animals! :D
7) Letter - I think the last line in that letter was ''Good Luck''!
10) River always gave me the impression that she wasn't human. I don't know why, its just this feeling I got.
11) Catchprase - I think he should revive some really old ones from the 1st Doctor as a tribute! Or mix and match ones from all 10 of his predecessors!!!!
1. Possibly. We'll see... 2. Doc's always been a he. 3. Possibly. We'll see... 4. Range. Which he probably has. 5. Gonna buy The Ruby in the Smoke this week, I'll tell you after, haha. 6. Hawaiian shorts. Or better - hula skirt. No, I kind of like the Hartnell / McGann look. 7. The Doctor's name? :p 8. River Song seems too old... Sally Sparrow? 9. Girl. And boy. Why not multiple companions! 10. At least one alien! 11. TARDIS opening with a snap of the fingers is coming up, right?
Incidently, I was working til 6 as well so I had to do the same as you, ignore my phone, drive home with the radio off and not talk to anyone until I had watched my recording, lol.
I was expecting an older doctor, but I think they're playing to a younger audience these days, and rightfully so, so Matt Smith's casting is a good move. In the old series The Doctor was written originally as an older man, and the revival maintains the creative license to be able to make major changes to the series.
Smith's a capable actor, definetely, and Moffat's stories have been so juicy in the past that I think they'll do just fine. But River Song as a companion might look a tad odd
In response to question 2, I am a strong beleiver that there are Time Lords and Time Ladies and that those two are not interchangable. I'mm all in favour of the dococtor discovering a Time Lady but he can't regenerate ino one because he's male. It would be like casting a woman to play James Bond.
I've no idea who this guy is but he sounded very interesting and he seems to be taking the responsibility of being The Doctor very seriously so I'm sure he'll do a fine job and I'm very excited to see where he'll take this wonderful iconic character.
Side note: We all know that SM is a serious Rose hater and he's trying to set up this supposedly grand relationship between the Doctor and River Song, but I still hope we'll get to see Matt's Doctor with Billie one day.
4. What is the one thing you prioritise... what do you want to see the most out of this guy?
I've watched the interview with him now and I think I'd like to see a serious cockiness. He's young and confident and I'd like to see that combination affect him in a negative way. XDXD
1. Perhaps. 2. I think a chick Dr would be interesting. 3. Mohawk perhaps? 4. Eccleston brought a great feeling of a tragic hero which DT carried brilliantly I hope he can balance the happy and sad notes. 5. Never seen him before. 6. A top hat. 7. "Don't arse it up!" 8. Jeromy Clarkson? 9. Doesn't matter, a entertaining companion is more important. 10. Rosi? 11. "Ja know wot I meen?"
1. No 2. No, he's the correct level of male 3. Not really plus I'm sure his hair will be different when his Doctor design is revealed. 4. To shock those who doubt him with an amazing performance 5. Doctor Who 6. I can't think of anything 7. A note to constantly suggest a multiple Doctors episode to Steven Moffat 8. I think Jayma Mays would be a good companion but I'd also like to see a younger River Song 9. Girl or both 10. Any species will do (Malmooth please) 11.
8. Tosh from torchwood or andrew loyd webber or perhaps even ol Russell brand let's break boundaries!
9. Either, but one question down still up for breaking boundaries.
10. Perhaps the last cyberman who is repenting for what his race did. He would act abit like c-3p0.
11. is it me or is it a bit quantum fantacular around here, or even a Peter Andre favorite - Chillax. A clever combination of the words chill and relax.
Cant really judge him after one episode as when tennant had his first episode it looked like he would be a badass but then near the end he tried to save davros FUCKING DAVROS? so give him a few episodes but im really excited too
I'm not a die hard Who fan like many of you, but I can't resist a Rosi vlog! I think having a female doctor would have added an interesting new dimension to the show...would have possibly reinvigorated it. Or perhaps..dare I say it, the first non-Caucasian doctor would also have been an interesting twist. An Obama of Dr. Who if you will... :)
I think it's just a matter of time before David Tennant does write you a personal letter Rosi, lol. You are his number one admirer after all!!!!!
QUESTIONS TO ANSWER IN COMMENTS/RESPONSES/ALL OF THE ABOVE 1. No he isn't he's 900 years old. 2. No he really looks quite alien 3. Nope it's all floppy and rather cool 4. I just wanna see a fresh new Doctor 5. Party Animals 6. Black velvet wasitcoat, black skinny jeans and shades. Something quite punk and edwardian at the same time! 7. Don't break my tardis! MORE QUESTIONS/PROMPTS! 8. Sally Sparrow 9. Girl and a boy 10. Human companion? - Yes 11. Bananarama!
This is a frivolous comment, but I love your commentaries! Your enthusiasm is contagious, and you make a lot of great points.
I'm excited about Matt Smith. At first I had a shocked feeling, because it's hard to decide how to feel, actually... but I think he's going to be amazing. He's young, but I think that will bring a lot of fun to the show. 2010 is too far away now! I want this season to come straight after the specials that are airing this year.
I don't think he's too young, and I wouldn't have wanted a female Doctor. I quite like his hair, in an odd way. I had never even heard of him before this, but I thought he was adorable in his interview, so if his acting is as good as you say it is, I guess I'm pretty happy.
David will always be the best, though! I shall miss him.
He's too perfect! I have a feeling he'll already be the Doctor I'll like the best, I think it was a great move to pick a young actor. I'd still like to see the female version of the Doctor at some point, though I doubt it will happen. I was a huge fan of Ruby in the Smoke and Shadow in the North. I'd almost like to see Jenny as the companion as the actors seem close in age and she'd be a real challenge for the Doctor.
Steven Moffat, Amazing cant wait for episodes from him
Matt smith now i dont know him well, but however i think confidential was right and correct, i dont think he is too young, this he got a good look to him, i love his hair lol.
i think they should bring in an alien companion not one from earth, to give us a completly different story that we've seen with rose/martha and Donna.
But it's still going to be an ENTIRE YEAR before we see him on our screens. I am not at all happy with this year-long break. It's great for the cast and crew but not so much for us who are dieing to see the new series.
I want River Song as his companion, but I want someone else younger playing her. I also want a freking male companion who sticks around for more than two episodes and doesn't fall in love with him *cough*Jack*cough*
I think I love David too much to ever be quite that excited about anyone taking his place. It had to happen, but still... Frankly I don't know enough about Matt Smith (I must say, his generic name made him a bit hard to find on IMDB) to like or dislike him. The only thing I've seen him in was that small part he had in Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and while I didn't particularly like him in that, I won't judge until I actually see his portrayal.
6. Difficult, I don't know what he should wear, something new and quirky.
7. I guess just congrats and good luck.
8./9. As for the companion, not sure, but definatly a girl, can't have too much masculinity.
10. Human, without a doubt, if they were from another planet they would know a bit to much, and they sort of need to be in awe of the doctor and all his knowledge.
11. No idea
Overall I'm very exited about Matt, I was worried, but I like him a lot.
2. I would have been upset if the Doctor was female, I dunno, he just has to be male for me.
3 I LOVE his hair!
4.H's gotta have that mystery and sense of history, all the things we don't kow about him, but still all childlike and happy. I don't know just that Doctor feeling.
5. I only know him from In Brugge, so looking forward to seeing more.
idon't live in theuk so i've never heard of thisguy before. i looked him up on imdb and i don't think watching everything he's ever done will take you very long. That one ofthe reasons i have my doubts about him. quickly to answer your questions:
1. He is verging on too young. the trend continuesyou coudl end up with a teen doctor. it makes you wonder how the first doctor stayed out of trouble long enough to reach the age he did.
2. No 3. Not relevant I'llhave to do the rest in another post
1. Well I do wish he was a little bit older, but I don't mind
2. Eh, no?
3. I don't really like it, but, again, I don't mind it too much
4. I want him to be intelligent. I watched Series 4 before I started at the beginning, and when I had to watch the first it made me realize that 10 seemed smarter than 9 and I liked that. I like him showing off his smarts.
5. I haven't seen anything he's in but I will try to find The Ruby in the Smoke because you liked it so much.
6. I saw a promo pic with him in it and it looked nice.
7. Probably wishing him luck.
8. Dunno, but I think she should be around his age and not older. I feel like if she's older she'll appear to mother-ish.
9. I don't mind. Girl would be nice.
10. Human, yeah.
11. I haven't got a clue. I'll leave that up to Moffat.
***I also hope he'll have credibility in the episodes (because he's so young, the people in trouble might not go along with him and take his advice).***
Im gonna watch everything he's ever done too!! Xx

Yes, Matt Smith WAS 26 at the time of his casting as No. 11, but that was a year ago - so that makes him 27 at the time of "The Eleventh Hour's" airing.

actually, I liked the new doc (number ten) right away. My mum thought the smile from right after he regenerates and says "barcelona" was really creepy, but I found it totally awesome and spent the next week in front of a mirror trying to smile like that (yes, I know, I'm weird) but I am very much looking forward to number 11

@hobbitbox ....Encouraging to think that there might be a nearly entire island-nation of these Rosianna-ish people.
But it's a somber realization that only a lucky few of us will be able to marry and experience someone like this at breakfast most mornings.

Too young? No. Peter Davison, the 5th Doctor was only 29 when he appeared as the Doctor. Matt is 27. His hair? What can only be described as a "Flock of Seagulls" hairdoo suits the Doctor perfectly - with a hint of 80s nostalgia.

Hey, cool vid :)
nice to hear ur opinions on the 11th Doctor...right now, i think he's gonna be interesting cos he's got the mad professor look, his outfit just totally reminds me of Patrick Troughton (2nd Dr)
ive actually met Matt, he's a fantastic guy..really great to talk to, cos me an my mates were down cardiff an we were gonna go looking for him an there he was
as soon as we saw him, we were like "OMG ITS HIM!!" lol
but yeh, cool vid; nice to hear a Doctor Who fan's opinion :)

ZoahLord 2 years ago

I know I will like whoever they pick, but seeing it was Matt made me squeaky in the best way ^__^
I will miss David of course though ^_^

5. Um...
Jameythehedgehog 2 years ago
6. Something purple. Nothing at all like DT's costume/s of course
7. Exactly what was in it in the Trinity Productions spoof? XD Idk.
8. Someone like Tegan, who tries to argue with him a lot. Come to that more Australians or international companions would be good for variety.
9. More boys plz! For variety.
10. More aliens plz! For variety.
11. No idea, but I don't think it'll be flabbergasted somehow. That would be silly.
Jameythehedgehog 2 years ago
Matt Smith will be brilliant, but he will never be as good as 10 David is the best Doctor there's ever been and he's my Doctor! I don't really wanna think about Matt taking over too much, just yet because I don't want it to ruin Davids last episodes for me and David is still the Doctor! I'm also goning to try and avoid watching anything with him in too because I pretty much did that with David and Chris too, I want to see how he does as the Doctor not be judgeing him on past performances!
Jinx903 2 years ago
the shock of it, he just popped up and started talking and i was like"could it be?", and then immortal words popped up and, literally screamed.anway, not too young, the more male the better, tennant/baker mix hair, he could be given cut, quite liked what he wore in the interview, but plain white t-shirt would be interesting. so many thoughts!
DJAustay 2 years ago
ECCLESTON is the Doctor, though Tennant was enjoyable at times and this new kid I'm not judging. Tom Baker's great. My problem with Tennant and this new guy is that the Doctor should look older not 900+ but old enough so you can think this guy's lived a while seeing some things throughout a few decades.

I will most deff miss David also. I started watching with Christopher aka 10th doctor, and was hooked from the 1st episode. I rlly do think that Matt will do a good job. I agree with what you said about how it would have been more fun to be surprised when the episode airs. My first is Tom Baker. :-)

2. too male? can the doctor be too male?

Hmm... Though I'm gutted Ten's gone, I was equally gutted at Nine's departure and Ten more than lived up to my expectation.
But if Eleven is to fill Ten's converses he'll have to:
a) get his hair cut out of the stupid asymmetrical thing he has going.
b) Act ten years older then he actually is.
c) Put on a not-so-posh accent. (On this count I'm sure he can deliver. Saw him in Party Animals and was impressed.)
He's an actor after all, so he should deliver. But my excitement is muted.
bethkwright 3 years ago
Bethkwright, I can't help but find your Doctor requirements to be a little off.
Obviously he has to play old, that's a given. But you can't honestly tell me that Doctor Who is about symmetrical hair and not-so-poshness?
Almost all the Doctors so far have had weird hair and posh accents.

I am excited for the regeneration too! As to how it should go? How about a different way of dying than any other Doctor?
As for Matt Smith? I watched Confidential, and his whole charisma just screams Doctor. He will do great!

I'll miss David Tennant but Matt Smith will be a great doctor!
cyberlego1994 3 years ago
What I am looking for in matt: FUNTIMES. I liked him in party animals cos he was funny and fairly adorable so I can see him as like a fuzzy fun doctor. Not sexeh like david but close perhaps.
Also "as long as they don't get a companion that sucks." LIKE MARTHA. I don't know why but god she annoyed me.
that is all.
CherryBlossomSmile 3 years ago
I agree with you about Matt. I think he needs to be given a chance and frankly I think he's sooo right for the Doctor
riderlookin 3 years ago
I think he's a very interesting choice. An unkown is a great idea. And he does have "the face" doesn't he? I think Matt Smith will show age old wisdom very well, and of course he'll have the energy to cope with the tough schedule. I wonder if the Eleventh Doctor will be annoyed he's not got ginger hair? And what do you think his new outfit will be like?
The programme has always moulded around the main actor, so when the writers and directors really get to know him we'll have some classics...
Gray4Who 3 years ago
I have been thinking, but I think I figured out what David wrote to him. "Beware of the hostile flamers and evil haters. Ohhh, WHY are they making us wait for the 5th series? I can't wait for this all to take place. I am excited for the regeneration even though I'll miss 10~!
Manacle180 3 years ago
he can go one of two ways: kill it or live up to the name. I think being the Doctor is a highlight in any actors career, and perhaps he is slightly too young. But he's got this fun about him, but a seriousness, and I'm really eager to see that.
In an unrelated matter, you're pretty good looking ;):)
parkourleslie 3 years ago
Costume-wise I think he should wear the same outfit that he's shown in in the recent publicity photos next to the Tardis (black slacks, black sweater, black wool jacket). It suits him better than Ten's brown and blue suits and is kind of an homage to Nine's outfit

Steven M wrote some of the most memorable episodes of the entire new Doctor Who Series. I know people rate RTD and we are happy he brought Doctor WHo Back but I really think now Steven M is at the helm you are going to see a gothic Doctor. 1. If he can pull off the part age doesn't matter. I was hoping for a 40+ actor so that we'd get someone really different from Ten.
3. Yeah. I'm not fond of the hair.
4. The core of the Doctor and something that distinguishes him from from Ten.
5.Ruby in the Smoke

In relation to the Companion role, quite a few people are mentioning Emma Watson, but for me she would be quite divisive. Now I reckon Deathly Hallows filming will probably get in the way so it's unlikely that any HP actress is in the running for companion, which is a shame because I reckon Natalia Tena (Tonks) would go well with Matt's Doctor.
flaziola 3 years ago
I agree, I think any main HP actors (especially the young main cast) would be incredibly divisive. Natalia Tena is awesome though.
missxrojas 3 years ago
so you are a tory student well thats what YOU said you have a poster of David Cameron with the posh Harry Potter scarf.
the new so called Doctor will be worse than David Tennant, they had to use old monsters like daleks, cybermen, ~Davros and Sontaron, they even copied a Scooby Doo character in the library episode, the new Doctor Who is for babies, students like yourself and toddlers, who dont have a clue about sci-fi, you need to wake up to reality!
the 12th Doctor will probably be Sooty!
Dirtyoldcarpet55 3 years ago
RTD chooses to reuse some old characters because he himself is a huge fan of the original show, he sees it as a tribute to the show he grew up with and loved.
How... ironic is it that you should tell somebody to 'wake up to reality' for, uh, not having a clue about science fiction? Seriously?
And it is "Sontaran", by the way.
Sellybop 3 years ago
Why would you say that the new doctor who is for babies and then show off your Scooby Doo knowledge?

2. What do you mean too male?
3. Yes

Dirtyold, I'm not rich, I'm not posh, and I'm most certainly not Tory (though I believe that in a liberal society we should accept political parties even if they don't hold views we agree with as long as those views don't include genocide or something).
7. No idea lolz. Advice, tips?

3) Hair - He has a very similar all round structure to david. In terms of hair, body etc. So there could be a danger of a horrible mimic! But hopefully not!
4) Prioritise - Hmmm not to sure!
5) Wear - *Jokes* How about nothing! :D
6) Favourite Thing - Ruby in the Smoke or Party animals! :D

I've watched the interview with him now and I think I'd like to see a serious cockiness. He's young and confident and I'd like to see that combination affect him in a negative way. XDXD

1. He looks alot younger than he actually is i think, but i guess it was interesting for him to be younger which i never thought of.
2. Rugby players would be to male, he looks abit more like a dancer.
3. His hair looks abit like someone out of the horrors.
4. To eliminate the cybermen forever?
5. I think he was in a band called the horrors? or am i mistaken?
6. No tight jeans, no red ties and black shirts. Maybe abit like that other dude did on christmas.
7. A recipe for his gran's fruitcake.

I've never heard of him, so I can't really say. I'm not making any judgement until I see the first episode with him.
And I think he should have both a long running male and female companion...and one of them should not be a modern day person from London.
Ugerchucker 3 years ago

1. No, I think it's fine
2. No
3. I preferred DT's hair
4. I want him to be just as fun.
5. I haven't seen anything, so I'll rent the Sally Lockhart mysteries.
6. A kimono (I have no idea)
7. Hmm. That's a good question
8. I like what someone said about Sally Sparrow
9. I think we need a boy.
10. A Dalek would be funny, but it won't happen.
lrocke08 3 years ago
1. No, acting ability does not relate to age
2. No
3. NO.. David's hair will pwn Matt's hair any day!
4. Energy! David put such energy into the role
5. I haven't seen anything with him in it
6. Something not too colourful
7. No idea (I wish David would write me a letter too)
8. I don't mind, as long as they're not a girl and turns out to be the Doctor's love interest
9. Boy/boy, I think we need a change
10. Alien! Again, we need a change

Thank you so much, it's nice to see a positive feedback to the casting announcement. He is gonna be so fantastic. He already looks like the Doctor!
vortexguyz934 3 years ago

TMParrish2011 3 years ago
He's too perfect! I have a feeling he'll already be the Doctor I'll like the best, I think it was a great move to pick a young actor. I'd still like to see the female version of the Doctor at some point, though I doubt it will happen. I was a huge fan of Ruby in the Smoke and Shadow in the North. I'd almost like to see Jenny as the companion as the actors seem close in age and she'd be a real challenge for the Doctor.

1) No, he's playing someone over 900 so I don't think it makes a difference weather someone who it 26 does it or someone who is 56.
2) Nope I think it will make it interesting to see how he plays the doctor.
3) No it's quite a bit longer.
4) Passion.
5) Only saw him in ruby and the smoke.
6) Something quirky :)
7) No idea but want to know!
8/9) Girl, someone strange or nerdy

Steven Moffat, Amazing cant wait for episodes from him
Matt smith now i dont know him well, but however i think confidential was right and correct, i dont think he is too young, this he got a good look to him, i love his hair lol.
i think they should bring in an alien companion not one from earth, to give us a completly different story that we've seen with rose/martha and Donna.
CAN'T WAIT FOR 2010

Loved Matt in Party Animals, so I'm hopeful for the future of Dr Who with him.
dancingslimshady 3 years ago
1. I say his youth is just an opportunity for him to create an entirely original Doctor. I'd worry more about the shortness of his resume.
2. Not really. Don't think we were ready for a hermaphrodite Doctor, anyway.
3. His hair is not NEARLY was lovely as DT's. I think he should change it up, but for his own benefit.
4. A need him to have a strong personality. I fear a boring Doctor.
5. Only saw SDoaCG. Didn't like him.
6. Not a suit. That's DT's.
7. Something about not sleeping much.

I think Matt Smith will do wonderfully...
Minish 3 years ago
I think I love David too much to ever be quite that excited about anyone taking his place. It had to happen, but still... Frankly I don't know enough about Matt Smith (I must say, his generic name made him a bit hard to find on IMDB) to like or dislike him. The only thing I've seen him in was that small part he had in Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and while I didn't particularly like him in that, I won't judge until I actually see his portrayal.
nolaespoir 3 years ago
give him support as he hasn't even filmed anything yet
thatsthewayitgoes09 3 years ago
11. No idea
Overall I'm very exited about Matt, I was worried, but I like him a lot.
laughteraddict89 3 years ago
1. Is he too young, Nah I wanted a young guy.
2. I would have been upset if the Doctor was female, I dunno, he just has to be male for me.
3 I LOVE his hair!
4.H's gotta have that mystery and sense of history, all the things we don't kow about him, but still all childlike and happy. I don't know just that Doctor feeling.
5. I only know him from In Brugge, so looking forward to seeing more.
laughteraddict89 3 years ago
I wanted a young guy too

idon't live in theuk so i've never heard of thisguy before. i looked him up on imdb and i don't think watching everything he's ever done will take you very long. That one ofthe reasons i have my doubts about him. quickly to answer your questions:
1. He is verging on too young. the trend continuesyou coudl end up with a teen doctor. it makes you wonder how the first doctor stayed out of trouble long enough to reach the age he did.
2. No 3. Not relevant I'llhave to do the rest in another post
greatsayain 3 years ago
Before we found out who would be playing the 11th Doctor, I never really considered the option of anyone being any good after David.
But I'm actually surprising myself by looking forward to the next series now.
I loved him in Ruby in the Smoke and yeah...I can't wait
=D

Isn't Matt Smith gay? I heard that somewhere... And if so, might that translate to The Doctor? If anyone knows for sure, I'm curious.
LindseySubtlyInked 3 years ago
LoveLittleMissMunich 3 years ago
LoveLittleMissMunich 3 years ago
I've never heard of him. Though, from his interview, he seems like an alright choice. He's uber enthusiastic, which is awesome.
7. The letter probably had the Doctor's real name...
