  • This never would have happened if they had bought their albatross...

  • Saki got there first ... he always did.

  • Tis' but a flesh wound!

  • All that for a game of tennis

  • I sincerely hope that Sam Peckinpah saw this, and I sincerely hope he loved it.

  • @SenorUkulele: Supposedly, Sam has seen this, and loves it.

  • Omg, that's pretty fucked up..

  • I say, what a simply super sketch.

  • Pretty strong meat there from *sniiiif* Sam Peckinpah.

  • I came here because of omegle.

  • What fun!

  • Thank you Britain.

  • There's just those random three people in the end still sitting down and laughing XD

  • HTF IN REAL IN LIFE LMAO

  • kýble krve chlístající z lidských hlav

  • h. g. lewis lives!

  • I love how Cleese is just staring with a pondering expression at his handless arms.

  • I remember watching this the first time it was on. Spat dandylion and burdoch all over the telly.

  • I remember watching this the first time it was on. spat dandylion and burdoch all over the telly.

  • we used to call them salad days, haha yeah salad days

  • Pretty strong meat there from Sam Peckinpah.

  • I bet the reason why the first scene was in the day time and the last scene was at night was because it took them all day to film those few scene without totally cracking up! :D

    Best show ever!

  • It's so--y'know--SUNNEH! *skirt swish*

  • The Finns find this way to funny

  • I say... LOL

  • I say - what a super sketch!

  • I say, what a superb sketch!

  • It's only a flesh wound

  • Monty Python please make a spoof of "John Rambo"

  • "It's so, you know, SUNNY"

I hate and love the way she says it...

  • GRRR!!

    he ruined the piano!

  • Is it me or does Michael make a mistake here. The ball hits his left eye but it's the right that starts bleeding.

    Great sketch regardless.

  • @Animainiac85

I have watched this scene in slow motion, he get hitten on his right eye, but the ball is bouncing and it seems for the viewer that the ball was hitten the other eye.

  • @DaonlyrealGoofy so youre saying this is faked? that none of them actualy died?

  • This is actually pretty close to the final 30 minutes of Straw Dogs in that a bunch of Englishmen get killed.

  • I'm watching this stuff regularly - as a therapy after an annoyig day.

    Oh, crikey!

    Love it

  • The real-life "Happy Tree Friends"

  • Pretty strong meat.

  • @JesusLeeMcWashington Will you stop sniffing

  • Combine Monty Python with Sam Peckinpah, and you'll get this sketch. XD

  • looks like happytreefriens

  • My thirteen year old nephew likes this one and the "how not to been seen" sketches the best. As funny as those are, I'm a little disturbed that Monty Python's most violent sketches seem to be his favorite.

  • The other wonderful bit of subtlety is how (intentionally) bad the directing is. I mean, everyone just standing there saying wonderfully unrealistic lines ... until the blood starts gushing, of course.

  • I love how John Cleese is just mildly intrigued by the fact that his hands have popped out.

  • I want to see "Eli Roth's Salad Days".

  • Comment removed

  • The very ending is good too! You see Eric Idle as a pundit or critic and he's gunned down by machine guns, spouting blood all over. A caption reads "Tee hee! Tee hee!"

  • It's funny how fast this went straight to hell.

  • Gotta love how Terry J is just sitting there smiling at the end. :')

  • "Pretty strong meat there from >sniff< Sam Peckinpah."

  • lol at the start "director sam peckinpah" hahahaha

  • I say, Lionel, Catch!

  • WILL YOU STOP SNIFFING

  • A prelude to happy tree friends

  • Look at the mess the world is in.I now realise that Monty Python is sane and the rest of the world is mad!

  • Ooh, this one must have been between The Ballad of Cable Hogue and Straw Dogs. I can see the transition. Hahah

  • 13 people have been impaled by a keyboard.

  • My cheeks are tingling from laughing where Palin takes the tennis ball to the face and starts bleeding!

  • im 5ft 10 is it good for Tennis?

  • wwwwwwwwwwwtttttttttttttfffffffffff

  • does anyomne keep clicking the timelime just before he gets hit in the face with the tenis ball, just becuase it's such an awseome shot, to think they really hit him in the face with a tenis ball for this sketch lol.

  • I love how Terry Jones is just sitting there on the side smiling.

  • The fragility of the characters' bodies = Happy Tree friends for Humans.

I love this show with a passion. :D

  • @billtamer it is funny because its not taking the mic out of sam peckinpah but trying to enspire his work as a comedy and its alot better than the people who think there funny when they are just absotute trash

  • if u look at 0:45 john cleese rists are already damaged and got blood on them

  • dude wtf lol I remember this for way back so dramatic

  • That's Pekinpah alright.

  • i liked the part when they started bleeding

  • Brilliant sketch made me laugh like a drain in 1971,but if your not familiar with Sam Peckinpah it might seem pointless.

  • This clip doesn't make as much sense if you don't know who Sam Peckinpah is. He was the director of many western films and was known for his use of excessive violence. Still, it's a funny sketch. That's what I love about Monty Python; even their highly referential sketches are hilarious to those who don't get the reference.

  • Am I the only one that feels a bit sick watching this?

  • @teencomment Your name says it all.

  • 13 people have been impaled by piano keyboards.

  • This is probably my favourite Python sketch. It's even better when you include the Eric Idle scenes before and after and the apology after the credits.

  • @billtamer Because you're a twat.

  • Hilarious how John only looks mildly annoyed to see his hands cut off

  • I don't get it.

  • @hippiesmacker It is a parody of a musical called Salad Days. Monty Python stated in the intor too that skit that this was the Sam Peckinpah adaption of the musical. Sam Peckinpah had a penchant for particularly bloody and violent movies, like "The Wild Bunch" "Getaway" and especially "Straw Dogs". Today the gag would run along lines like "High School Musical" adapted by Quentin Tarantino or Robert Rodriguez...

  • @dudewhosaysarrh: Wait, if Quentin Tarantino did "High School Musical" it would have been BadAss.

  • The poor effects make it even better. John Cleese already had bloody wrists before his hands got cut off. I love this sketch.

  • Now that is amazing.

  • ANYONE FOR TENNIS!

  • this is even better if you've seen anything sam peckinpah has done.

  • Even though I have seen this sketch countless of times, this is the first time I notice Michael Palin says, "Oh, Crikey" at 0:35.

  • wtf lmao!!

  • I remember the first time I saw this. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to die. I laughed from 0:32 all the way to the end.

  • This sketch is so fucking metal.

  • "I say, Lionel, catch"

Who thought a line like that would start the bloodshed?

  • I must have watched this 5 times straight and havent stoped laughing yet...

  • looks like 11 people missed the like button!

  • @dancefool68 make that 12 you fucker haHA

  • John staring blanking at the blood coming out of him wrists makes this whole sketch.

  • looks like a japanese movie from the 70s^^

  • I legitimately almost had an asthma attack from laughing at this...and I woke up my family in the process. Totally worth it. Mikey Palin is a trip.

  • Pretty strong meat there for Sam Peckinpah

  • I'm still wondering how that one guy got the keyboard stuck thru him.

One way to liven up the Edwardian era!

  • I say! I think I will adopt the habit of adding "I say!" to the beginnings of half my sentences.

  • Comment removed

  • Blimey!!!

  • Simply great! And still the very top of comedy!

  • bloody heck!

  • Good Lord! that's funny!

  • i say lionel...catch..haha

  • 0:45 notice how Cleese's hands were already red

  • they're men made of rubber,lol

  • I just saw 'The Wild Bunch' plus a few other Peckinpah films. This sketch makes COMPLETE sense now :)

  • this reminds me of the SAW movies lol

  • haha "I say! Isn't it a super day!?"

Lol Michael Palin is the best. Haha

  • rofl agree

  • ROFL

  • John Cleese's face after his hands get cut off is hilarious

  • @TheJazzsaxophone

    Overall his face is genial...

  • Pretty strong meat there from Sam Peckinpah.

  • Gross but a great piss take on Sam Peckinpah's films. It could be remade now as Quentin Tarantino's Salad Days.

  • the joke behind this was that the director was know for very violent movies

  • Not knowing the context of how a country picnic can turn so gory makes this work even better!

I'm still wondering how that one guy at 1:05 got the piano keyboard stuck thru him.

  • 1:04 The way Graham Chapman cuts off that womans head with that keyboard

    BRILLIANT

  • I say, anyone for tennis?

    xDDDDDD

  • @Joychanmini What Fun!

  • I like how John gets his hands cut off and just goes Damn it.

  • This probably inspired Happy Tree Friends XD

  • "Directed by Sam Peckinpah"... LOOOOL!!!

  • This was the first Monty Python skit I ever saw. Saw it when I was eleven, needless to say, I was hooked.

  • lol its so genius. I love Monty Python.

  • Oh, their only flesh wounds :P.

  • if people were that easily injured... O.O

  • "I say, Lionel - catch!"

  • part of brilliance of this sketch is trying to imagine how g chapman get impaled by a piano keyboard.

  • @tallkell It's sad that Graham Chapman died of cancer. He should have died from being impaled with a keyboard.

  • @tallkell Exactly, I thought those keys were supposed to be separated, not together as a board!

  • Because "Salad Days" refers to a pleasant time,

the term is used to poke fun at the violence in his films belived unnessary and going too far.

People seeing The Wild Bunch didn't see what looked like an old western, but blood and gore.

  • They are poking fun, attacking the bloody ("The Wild Bunch" )movies of Sam P.

At the time, critics and audiences hated the excessive violence they belived was unnecessary, and going too far.

  • Reminds me the Black Knight sceene from Holy Grail... Great!

  • i say super show! that stuff is funny as! love Monty Python!

  • Best. Python. Sketch. Ever. END OF.

  • It's even funnier if you've seen Peckinpah's films ("The Wild Bunch" and "Straw Dogs" especially). And the original "Salad Days", for that matter. I love Graham's scream! XD

    You gotta love Monty Python.

  • I saw this as a kid on public television more than 30 years ago and it messed me up for life.

  • xD the look on the face of cleese xD

  • Would be better without the laugh track.

Still brings back good memories though.

  • It's not a laugh track. They played their filmed bits for studio audiences while they recorded the show.

  • Tarantino wasn't even born ^^

  • Oh the olden days...

  • Hahaha! I love Graham's scream!

  • oh me to i think graham screams the best of all the pythons xd :p

    gr

  • my fAv Python skit! i love youtube for this very reason..random memory of something..search..wammo! =) blOOdy heLL!

  • ok now saw 5 feels like picnic to me

  • khm, they were probably offended by Sams' interpretation of british cruelty in Straw Dogs.

  • Pretty strong meat there from *sniff* Sam Peckinpah.

  • Oh fuhk yes Bloody Sam !

  • Anything but mindless good taste.

  • Comment removed

  • You don't obviously understand british humor then. Go watch you unfunny Carlos Mencia then.

  • I SAY what a super gory clip!!!!

  • GGGOSH YES!!!!!

  • What's that he says when the piano key cover cuts his hands off at 0:49 secs?

  • What nutty brilliance XD

  • TALK ABOUT ENLIGHTENED IMAGINATIONS.....YOU HAVE TO KNOW PECKINPAH TO GET THIS SKIT....."Anyone for tennis?"

  • w-t-f ?

  • does everything have hidden blades???????

  • Haaahahahahaha hilarious!

  • This is really funny.

  • blood fountaains

  • Monty Python will never be replaced by mondern day comedians. They came, they conquered, they made us pee in out pants with laughter.

  • A-fucking-men
