  • my school is performing this and we're opening this weekend...omg, the guy playing the phantom is incredible! I can't wait.

  • i think the reason ppl hate butler is bc he was a little more modern bc he can notttt sing opera, trust me im one of the girls who in 4th grade brought the original POTO cd to school on the last day bc my teacher said i could and i made EVERYONE listen to it, i LOVE IT! but i think butler is good in his own respect, for me i cant compare bc they r different...i wouldnt get the cd from the movie though and i prefer the original anytime DEFINATELY

  • At around 4:24 a local high school in my region sang those few seconds acapella, and it sounds AWESOME. Thanks for the upload.

  • my biggest compliant about the movie was all the things they changed under the guise of ease within the medium.... they say they cant do the chandelier at end of act 1 cause it cant be topped at the end of act 2 but that isnt true and then they change lyrics around because they choose to do the chandelier in act 2 rather than in its proper place.

as far as talent goes movie christine was not as good as brightman but still ok. raoul was great almost comparable. butler cant sing though

  • @child2ofchrist4 I now love you. I hated Gerard Butler.

  • my high school just put this on and it was legit awesome, looked so professional

  • Awe Erik your such a party pooper! :D

  • The effect of 6:02 makes the photo of Sarah & Steve look like a drawing! Very cool; love this version!

  • MC's Phantom entrance was chilling and shocking, and I prefer that interpretation over a dramatic one. It reminds me of Neil Patrick Harris's Dr. Horrible singing Slipping. Kind of like something is off-kilter and everyone is trying to figure out what the hell's happening.

  • Both of these songs are good, and the movie cast can't compare, though I did like Raoul's voice quite a bit.

  • saw this 3 times in manchester amazing this is the best version better than the film

    !

  • saw this 3 times in manchester amazing this is the best version better than the film!

  • Am I the only person in the world who likes the movie AND the stage version?

  • I AM SO EXCITED!!!!! i am goin November 6th..My 18th birthday!!! the gift from my parents, right near the front too!! i can't wait!!!!!!!!

  • @2009emilymay You are so lucky!!!!! Have fun :D

  • THANK YOU!!!... I saw Phantom of the Opera 3 times live on stage.. I just saw it on Vegas recently and it was great!! Still my favorite song out of the entire play!! This song is incredibly hard to sing... I don't know how the 1st soprano ladies were able to hit those high notes.... it was incredible live..

  • i first saw the movie, loved the songs, then i heard the original cast, can't stand the movie, it's nowhere close

  • OMG i've been looking for this version for so long!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I dont like the movie version of this song because the vocals in mine opinion are somewhat lacking, than the original broadway version that have stronger voices that bring chills eveytime!!

  • You are welcome;)

  • @CissyP and the tempo in the movie version is cranked up too high.

That movie has forever cemented my absolute hatred of Joel Schumaker.

  • @SubtleAmbition I liked the movie the first time I saw it, but after I got the OLC soundtrack I couldn´t listen to the movie soundtrack.

  • @CissyP i have the same thoughts i used to watch the movie over and over then i saw it in Portland and could only listen to that cast or the original

  • @TheMusicGirl510 Sadly, I have not seen the play, I wish I can someday :)

  • @Musicgal81893 I completely agree.!

  • @Musicgal81893 i think that some movie songs are worse than the broadway version, but i do however like the phantoms lines from the movie about carlotta needing to learn to act

  • The Phantom is best as a tenor.

The stage version of this song is so much better than the movie. They're singing about reds and yellows and all of these different costume colours- and they're all wearing black gold and white. Doesn't fit.

  • I agree the stage verison sounds alot better aswell.

  • So yes MC can sing and move but GB can act with wonderful emotion (however sings like a hog) and well of course sarah beats the hell out of Emmy in any way possible (voice, looks and dance)

  • the original always seems better because you knew it first (and it usually is, i think it is here but anyways...)

gerard butler and emmy rossum are both good, they just do different renditions of the parts, except GB simply doesn't have a great voice and ER has a flatter performance overall

  • I like Michael's sarcasm, gentle but he made his point. Bravi to his performance.

GB did OK in this scene, but hated costume not scary enough, he looked like a pirate with a mask, not the red death.

in 1800's to see a skull or skeleton or both meant your own death will come soon this is why the crowd was afraid of him.

  • "Your chains are still mine-you will sing for me"

Mike sounds pissed, and gleefull, and has his voice filled with gleefull anticipation while singing that!

  • ORIGINAL HIGHLIGHTS!

    Boo-Ya!

I have listened to this show so much, I'm sort of immune to loving it!!

  • Michael <3 <3 <3.Best Phantom EVAH!

  • Has anyone noticed that whenever christine sings the music seems a lot more light and when phantom sings it's a lot more dark. I love the contrast!

  • I think both the original play and the 2004 movie has their own ups and downs. In my opinion, the movie version of the masquerade is more lively, and GB sounded more dramatic than MC in his entrance. MC sounds more passionate in Music of the Night while GB sort of lacks the soul of the music; but still singed really good and still romantic.

  • you are awesome best version ever

  • It is the best version, the OLC are great :D Thanks!

  • THe movie was hard to endure-they did their best....?? Kind of like playing right after the beatles-hard to follow crawford/Brightman. love the OG london cast release -play it in my car - u should see the looks i get singing @ stop lights

  • LOL :D

  • I agree...the originals are a million times better then the film actors...especially the Phantom "SithLordRh". Michael had a AWESOME, COMMANDING VOICE AS THE Phantom!!! I saw Michael live and he melted the hearts of every female in that audience and moved so beautifully. Mike seduced you with his voice, acting, passion and his awesome movements "SithLordRh" and thats my opinion! Plus if everybody has a right to there opinion then can I go on all the movie sites and say MC is way more commanding

  • Colinmcphan you saw Micheal live????? I'm jealous Micheal Is te phantom! No one could beat him

  • The movie is ok and the singers are good, but IMO they are not better than the originals. The movie is based in the play, not a bad movie, but the original is always better. Sarah and Michael are great singers.

  • it is a matter of opinon on which version they like better, everybody has theirs own.

  • true, but in my opinion the movie voices were... okay... but I like the play and this soundtrack much better than the movie's.

  • That's exactly right. Once you've grown up listening to Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman, you can't see the community play and pretend it even comes close. ;) I think the movie singers are great....... with the exception of the Phantom, who ruined the film for me with his ridiculous voice; I don't know - I'm biased because of the Michael Crawford's genius. But Raoul and Christine were great in the film

  • @ShinjitsuNoIta well they had performed on stage b4. they needed an experienced phantom. grrr..

  • Um... Like CissyP said, the original is always better.

  • ClssyP I could not have said it any better!

  • Thanks:)

  • Thank you so much! Best musical of all time!

  • MOST INCREDIBLE SONG EVER!
