  • Awesome ad!

  • let the dog inside :(

  • i so hope they play it again this year that advert made last christmas for me :)

  • @cRaZyGiRlGoNeMaD this year's christmas advert didn't really satisfy me... the cover of "please please please" was rubbish and i was generally disappointed :(

  • @EJES2000 i know yeah, last years was way better and i much prefer the smiths version of that song :(

  • I knew I'd heard this somewhere - Janet Devlin? Almost exactly reproduced. I must admit I preferred Janets version.

  • love this song

  • Autotune ruining music one note at a time!!

  • @gandalfthecat there's absoloutley no autotune in this?

  • Royal wedding anthem!!!

  • I remember in x-mas this advert kept coming up :'(

  • am i the only person who noticed that the chords for this version of the song are different? Cant tell if i like it all not

  • @BENJIMANBREEG33:Why would you think that Ellie songs with an extreme English accent? That's completely fucking ridiculous, she's from a part of England that happens to have a different way of talking with a different accent,I don't think she can just stop singing and talking the way she does.Ellie is a great singer. It's like saying that someone from Liverpool is over using the scouser accent. Most rap/hip-hop artists use autotune to hide their accent when singing.Cheryl Cole for example.

  • John Lewis ads are all beautiful.

  • I miss Xmas already :'(

  • @kazim786 you;re a twat.

  • aah lads stop with the comments about the dog im sure they played fetch or something with it afterward jeez all this bitchin goin on here lets think of happy thoughts likewhat were all getting for de aul crimbo '10 hah? im deffo getting that rocking horse not a finer creature on this earth then that beauty eh? haha hope they have a john lewis store i ireland :D

  • John Lewis always has the most wonderful Christmas ads. I still love 2008 with 'From Me to You' and 2009 with 'Sweet Child of Mine' ads. They have so much feeling.

  • ironic that it's not 'her song' ^-^

  • @ahadyama69 That isnt irony. Irony would be if she called it 'My song'.

    idiot.

  • Both of you STFU. It's an ad meant to brainwash you with a girl singing you want to bone. END OF.

  • @KeelyBeely1 You're too much of a simpleton, to miss the stupidity of the advert. I'm sure they do care for everyone, its just a pathetic attempt of showing it. If you're trying to show i'm dumb and you're not, try not typing in text talk, ignorant fucktard.

  • @BENJIMANBREEG33 you are the ignorant fucktard seen as loads of people are trying to explain to you bout noooo!!!!! and im ending this pointless argument.... and it's not like im typing to the queen or anything.

  • @KeelyBeely1 Yeah, cause someone with a different opinion to the majority is a fucktard, silly. "bout nnoo"? I can see you're overly sensetive so yes, good idea.

  • @BENJIMANBREEG33 Umm.. Just stating my opinion here, but I'm thinking your the "Fucktard" :D Bye! :L x

  • @ThinlineProductions says the gun fighter.

  • @BENJIMANBREEG33 you are way to dumb to understand the concept of the horse.

the whole point is nothing to do with the stocking or if it's cold outside (and it wasnt cuz it was filmed in june) the whole point is that they they care thats what they are trying to show!!!!!! and i think it's u who sleeps in a kennel seen as you know how it feel's to be left alone in one!

  • Benjiman, why don't you use your time to walk around outside and invite all the animals living outside right into your home instead of trying to ruin a beautiful christmas adv. for others? I am sure the dog is ok ;)

  • @Fairyqueen23 who'd you think I am, Ace Ventura?

  • Such a lovely advert, the music fits beautifully. And lol to the guy who claims the dog thing is 'not caring' Gtfo

  • @BENJIMANBREEG33 You are a complete an utter idiot they are showing that the dog is to be cared for it doesn't matter if he cant reach the stocking it's showing they care.... and by the way Ellie goulding is amazing and she sounds lush in this song so you shood get a life!

  • @hardballlller no :p

  • Ahh god, this advert makes me close to tears because it reminds me of the good Christmases I've had that I won't have for a very long time thanks to family issues. But this is such a good advert :')

  • @meganhaines101 you're pretty dumb, if you think leaving a dog in the freezing snow is caring. Putting a stocking out for it is just retarded. Get your ears tested too, they just both sing with that exaggerated English accent.

  • @BENJIMANBREEG33 Well... If you dont like it. Go listen to something else. Its an advert, therefore not real life- unless you think tv is reality in which case you poor poor creature. Also, 'so many female artists'? and you have given. Two examples. I dont regard that as 'many' and if you 'do know modern music' so very well go and listen to the music you like rather than bashing young, talented artists just because of their accent. Honestly.

  • @PaperMidnight Well if you don't like what I say, then go and do something else, fucking hypocrite. I'm not saying its real life, but the company are making out they do care in real life, with this ridiculous advert. Ok, Kate Nash and Lily Allen, thats two. Not that I don't like Lily Allen, at least she makes some interesting music. I'm not bashing talented artists, i'm bashing Ellie Goulding.

  • @BENJIMANBREEG33 You are a complete an utter idiot they are showing that the dog is to be cared for it doesn't matter if he cant reach the stocking it's showing they care.... and by the way Ellie goulding is amazing and she sounds lush in this song so you shood get a life! And what is with your stupid cat video's!!!!!!!

  • @KeelyBeely1 Its obviously you who's the moron, there's no point arguing with you, if you think putting the stocking out is caring, but leaving it in the freezing snow at the same time. Maybe your parents keep you outside in a kennel, who knows.

  • @meganhaines101 Are you fucking really that stupid? How it putting a stocking on the dog's cage "caring", and leaving it out in the freezing snow, you must come from a real caring background. And get your ears tested. I put them together on my voice match, they're a 95% match. They also both sing with with an exaggerated English accent.

  • Beautiful. It captures the spirit of christmas utterly.

  • @BENJIMANBREEG33 She had to apply to Elton John directly to use this, he never lets people use his music. She's Ellie Goulding not a clone, if you knew modern music you'd know her. Get out of your dark room and fuck off with your scathing comments.

  • @Hadouken65 Well duh, if you knew music, you'd know everyone has to apply to the original artist. Kate Nash could sing this, and it'd be hard to tell the difference. I do know modern music, there's only a handful of unique or talented artists.

  • @BENJIMANBREEG33 Not worth using many words on your comment as you are clearly so uneducated, ignorant and have no idea what you are talking about. But i will say that your statement is totally wrong and that is a fact.

  • @Abrett0 whats wrong about it, So many female artists are using the over the top British accent. If you can't see the big black holes in today's music industry, its obviously you who's ignorant. They do say ignorance is bliss, no wonder your content with all this shit.

  • Sent shivers down my spine. Amazing song, great advert.

  • Whatever John Lewis is ... I want it in Australia - just for this ad! Beautiful...

  • @lurveit Shopping centre lol :]

  • @lurveit Watch the John Lewis Never Knowingly Unsold advert if you like this one.

  • @lurveit go find out about ellie goulding then! :)

  • @lurveit haha, its a upmarket english department store,

  • That dog must be freezing!!!! Let him inside!!!!!

  • I feel all warm and fuzzy :)

  • LOW THE DOG INSIDE KMT

  • Aww the dog bit always makes me cry :')

  • music really makes this advert. great cover by ellie goulding.

  • LOL - at all the comments ( previously ) about the dog being outside.

bah blah blah copy and pasting about what breed it was...seriously...:']

Some people these days, it's an advert! get over it.

  • Tbh. Im not impressed with the dog related incident in the advert. But i have just had to explain to my 4 yr old brother why parents are bringing presents in. And not santa. So thanks John Lewis. Uv ruined christmas for this family!!!!

  • @chillman999 wahs wrong with the dog bit ? im not being mean im just confused about what your saying .. xxx

  • @chillman999 Your brother thinks that Santa buys ALL the presents. How odd. Of course you could just be talking complete bollocks, which is more likely.

  • @chillman999 aww really? thats nice.

  • @chillman999 why didn't you just say that some are from mummy and daddy and some are from Santa, thats what my mum and dad said to my little brother

  • Don't leave the dog in freezing cold.

  • if they were showing they cared then they would let the dog come in lol

  • beautiful song, i loved the condensed version!

  • @lucypursglove lol wiv you all the way, some people just do not get out enough do they lol, have they not heard of fake snow ffs!!

  • The music is beautiful!! <3 xx

A brilliant advert-i love the parents sneaking the toys upstairs!! lol :) xx

    Merry Christmas!!!!

  • I cannot believe people are complaining about the dog at the end...it's an advert for fuck's sake!!!!!!

I hate animal cruelty and am a huuuuge animal lover but even i know that's not cruelty...the snow is FAKE cos it's an advert :/

there is so much more cruelty in the world like the fur trade and blow torching the fur off of living dogs in Korea for meat...why don't animal lovers go get pissed off about real cruelty? I'd much rather eliminate actual horrible, torturous cruelty to animals tbh

  • @nattyasha101 that isn't helping cruelty though! some people would see that advert and think its okay to leave that kinda dog outside in that weather (yeah i know the snows fake) but still - I have three greyhounds and although they have short fur, like this hound on the advert - they have so little body fat they can't keep heat in - so yes its a advert - but it still could inspire cruelty as people may think its okay to leave that sort of dog outside in the snow!

  • @Bethii2k8 seriously. There is far worse cruelty going on the world. Your argument is pathetic and has no back up...it's like saying people will see the child going out in the snow and think it's ok to lock their kids out in it...no one thinks like that! In fact, untill all these do gooders mentioned that it might spark cruelty...i bet even the sickest and most twisted people hadn't even thought about leaving their dog out in the cold!

  • you all care about the dog but no-one even considered the horse! that was the family's shetland pony, which is solid because it, too, froze in the snow.

  • "For those who care about showing they care" - then they leave a dog outside in the freezing cold snowy weather HAHA

  • ahahahahaha. lol @ all the comments about the dog. i think the dog looked happy, just chillin' ;D

  • @BeefChopp THANKYOU :')

  • ITS JUST A FUCKING DOG!!!!!!!!!! GET OVER IT!

  • the boy himself has to go outside in the cold himself to give it to the dog. what about him?

  • Comment removed

  • My dog likes the snow. He used to run around too much, knock things over in the house and generally be a right old nuisance! You can imagine how pleased I was when the cold slowed him down. In fact I haven't heard a peep from him for weeks.

  • REALLY? The DOG?!?! What is WRONG with you people?! He gave it a Christmas stocking for goodness sake!

  • @TheOnlyTitus lol init

  • i can understand your point with the dog outside, but i would never leave my new born puppy outside in freezing snow. that's just mean

  • maybe the dog wanted to sit outside for a while, the advert in no way indicates that it was forced there.

  • @danni64 As a matter of fact at 0:52 the boy raises his hand to the dog implying that the dog has to stay. So it is through no choice of its own that it is sitting out in the snow. Thank you very much and goodnight.

  • @James33it hes waving at the dog. how does that imply he has to stay there. exactly

  • @danni64 There is a slight shake of the wrist which I suppose could be taken as a wave, I'll give you that. However it is snowing after all so the boy may just be shivering. In my opinion the boy's expression is quite stern and therefore it is a command to stay put. If he was waving surely he would smile? lol

  • @rspratt its an advert ... chill. not worth the fuss.

  • @suphagrid Disagree with you but appreciate that it's not something that bothers you. We each are allowed our opinions. I emailed John Lewis about it (along with many others I suspect) and received an email back saying that they are changing the ending, so this version of the ad will not be running for much longer. I am pleased about that. Dogs are pack animals and belong with their pack, i.e. indoors with the rest of their family. You can call it 'fuss'. In this case, I call it 'caring'.

  • this this is the best christmas advert ever made, it is amazing

  • LOL!

Good song and advert. And all people can talk about is the dog at the end that's in it for 10 seconds.

  • i can't believe i just cried at an advert but when the boy puts the stocking on the dog house at the end. awww.

  • One of best Xmas adv's I had ever seen. With music especially.

  • The dog won't freeze to death as it has to be above freezing to snow.

  • Love the song but, yes, I'm yet someone else who has an issue with the dog's predicament. Considering the ad ends with the words 'for those who care about showing they care' I think it is a bit ironic that the family don't apparently care enough about their own dog. I don't understand people keeping pet dogs in kennels outside as it is, let alone on a freezing cold, snowy winter's day (yes I know it's fake). He'd be better off in a dog's home where at least he would be inside and in the warm.

  • 1 - the song is breathtaking and magical

2 - the dog is fine get over it.... they shot the ad in JUNE and the snow is fake... type this in the search and see for yourself: The Making of the John Lewis Christmas TV Ad

  • I love this advert n ps idiots that think the dog in this has suffered think of the money J.L has obviously that pup was more than looked after anyone who says otherwise is sick in the head n u shudnt have changed the advert I felt u where expressing that people shud think about their pets when getting gifts not harming pets imagine even thinking that u bunch ov sickos

  • How could they leave the kennel out in the snow?!? I'm going to call the advertising standards agency right away...

  • @joeavfc93 do u mean that the dog isnt real???coz if you mean that im pretty sure your wrong.and they dont have a very big coat.

  • i love how like every single comment on this video is about a dog that features in this for about 10 seconds lol

  • The fact of the matter is, if the dog was a person outside in the snow, none of you would give one.

The pure fact that the Dog has a kennel shows he belongs to a loving family, the dog isn't scratching on the back door is he? He's lying in his kennel by his own choice, dogs aren't people, they cannot be domesticated, and if they are, then that in itself is more cruel than leaving it outside. And if you really want to get picky, the boy leaves the door open at the end anyway.

  • @zSUP3RK1NGz A loving family keeps a dog inside, not in a kennel outside. The video was very likely filmed on a warm summer's day with lots of fake snow on the ground and other winter effects added in editing - of course the dog was happy with that. In reality, on a very cold day, a dog would crave warmth and comfort as any human would. With this family, he's probably chained up too. Door left open? Yes, of course you would leave it open on a winter's day just in case the dog wanted to come in.

  • if the kid really cared he would have brought the dog in the warm house...

  • I think people are missing the point about the dog...

it shows the dog outside, because the kid is giving it a stocking, to show he cares.

it doesn't show it outside to show that the family hates it and wants it to freeze to death.

people need to chill (<nice little pun there)

  • @JacobJTColey I think YOU are missing the point. The kid could just have easily given him a stocking indoors if he wanted to show he cares. No one thinks the video shows that the family hates the dog, they just don't get why you would keep any so-called pet in a kennel outside at any time of the year, let alone winter. That doesn't show 'that you care'. Pet cats and dogs belong in the home with the rest of the family or else don't have them. Working dogs / guard dogs, different.

  • I like the advert but the ending made me really sad... Leaving the dog out in the snow at Christmas...

  • @babyborat1 well someone needs to calm down and realise some people like awesome adverts

  • oh john lewis, why with the dog

  • i love this version :) xxx.

  • is it even real song?

  • @missshaw yeah it is :)

  • It's an advert, no animals would have been hurt, the only crime is Elton Johns song being murdered, like Elle but not singing this

  • they left the dog in the snow lol the end was messed up lol

  • People need to chill the fuck out and stop over-reacting at an ADVERT.

  • I love this advert the dog is so cute, but he looks cold...

  • This song is so touching, it give me goose pimples. I Love it. And makes me so happy, reminds me of my best 'girlfriends'.

    <3

  • The girl who comes into the library isnt she Phoebe Tonkin? from H2O

  • This is ridiculous, look at the parents with the horse behind the girl! what does that tell kids??..this ad shouldnt be on

  • ffs sake people its an advert, i'm sure the dog was treated great during FILMING...great song, can't stop listening to it

  • Dogs are animials, so domesticated or not they can survive in the outdoors, even in the harshest conditions. The very fact that the dog has a kennel shows that the owners care for it. It is OK for dogs to live like this, if the owner wishes - what do you think kennels are for?

I don't see any signs of animal cruelty in this advert, just a pet with a loving family (hence the boy taking the stocking out), so give the advert credit where credit's due!

  • @gschicht couldnt agree more, thats exactly what kennels are for, my dog sleeps outside by choice, despite having a huge shed to go into. well said

  • Comment removed

  • 0:15 The white writing that appears when she sings: 'I don't have much money but boy if I did'............ just lovely.

  • This ad could have been done with the same "outstanding vocals of one Britain's of most upcoming artists" without saying it was OK to let a dog freze in the garden.

  • To the people going on about the dog and the weather, give it a rest. Focus your comments on the fact this is a good advert featuring the outstanding vocals of one Britain's most upcoming artists.

  • Sorry, nothing wrong with have a dog living outside in a kennel like this in the snow. We know this is just a ad. But it says to many watching its OK to have a dog live like this. I would like one deerhound owner/breeder come on this site and say this is how there dog lives.

  • @MsPatRoss hounds aren't meant to live like that - end of - I have three - they're not made for it - thank you :)

  • If you go to my videos, I have posted a media response to the advert, with statements from John Lewis, PDSA and Dogs Trust.

Gotta say though - love this song, this cover :)

  • John Lewis buy it cheap from a cheaper economy then over charge for it

  • Never knowingly charge less than anyone else or you never find out from which godforsaken place we buy our goods from but it isn't Britain!!

  • ellie makes this video so much better :)

  • So John Lewis thinks its OK to put out a add that has a dog living like this, they should be ashamed of themselves.

  • @MsPatRoss Poor doggy :(

  • @MsPatRoss Haha you sound like a fun person

  • @MsPatRoss Right, to all the people who after seeing this advert suddenly think they're animal experts: DOGS LIKE THE OUTDOORS. It's natural for them, especially the breed of the dog in the video. Of coarse they should come inside every so often, but there is NOTHING wrong with having a dog outside.

  • @andrandomstuff GAHHHHHH for frigs sake how many times do I have to post this - hounds are not meant to live outside - they have no body fat for insulation - thank you - yes they like the outdoors - in SHORT bursts - not constantly. I have three - so don't fuck with me saying I don't know anything

  • @Bethii2k8 Exactly, SHORT BURSTS! IN the clip he's outside for about 5, maybe 10 seconds? Is that not short enough for you? USE YOU COMMON SENSE MAN! Geez...

  • Comment removed

  • @andrandomstuff Is this your best way of having your say ? its just my grand children are a little upset about your statment

  • Comment removed

  • @MsPatRoss I'm so sorry, I've replied to the wrong person. Apologies

  • duh...people do pack candles for other people because they might have a different faith-think of others for a change, that should help! :@

  • Why the fuck would you buy someone a jackoff candle for christmas.

    Mint song though.

  • why would you leave a dog outside in the freezing snow?

  • @JADOREJESSY it should say "...for those who dont give a shit about showing they care"

  • @JADOREJESSY Dogs like that are able to withstand those temperatures. Dogs arn't humans.

  • @ClareyFairy04 hounds like that AREN'T meant to withstand those temperatures - I have three greys - and the dog on the advert is another form of hound - trust me they aren't made for it! they have no body fat for insulation - they get ill really easily - so please get your facts right :)

  • @Bethii2k8 It's a wolf hound ffs! (I have a greyhound and a deerhound) The rough coated hoounds originate in the northern hemisphere! It'd be fine! My grey has a blizzard coat but I wouldn't dream of putting one on my deer, he'd boil! Chill out a bit and get your facts right! ;)

  • @LucyPursglove hounds aren't meant to live outside - and the rough coated hounds originate from greys that have been cross bred - all our three wear blizzards when outside but even on a night they have fleeces (wusses that they are) but even so no hounds are made for living outside

  • @Bethii2k8 WTF? You really need to read books instead of the net! Get educated and stop ranting.

  • @LucyPursglove Irish Wolfhound

This is a breed that will make a wonderful family pet. But make sure you understand what this breed was originally bred for. This is a dog that was bred for hunting, so his prey instinct is still there, so he needs a lot of exercise. This is not hyper dog, and it is not a guard dog either. This dog is especially good for a stay at home family but not meant to live outdoors.

this was copied and pasted from a website - my facts are right

  • @Bethii2k8 *Yawn* You sound like your typical townie activist with no understanding of the natural world. Stop getting so irate about an advert you nutter! Life is too short; I sugest you get one and sharpish!

  • @LucyPursglove

    haha well said

  • @JADOREJESSY Exactly!....:o(

  • @JADOREJESSY Does it matter?? Its a dog on an advert!! Its not real! :L :L

  • @JADOREJESSY heya - so many people have complained about it that that part of the video has actually been cut out of the advert (or should have been by now) because it gives people the wrong impression of dog ownership. A dog like that isn't built to live outside so I agree with you completely (and before anyone gives me shit - I do know my stuff about these types of dog so don't start)

  • @JADOREJESSY I was thinking the same,sly..the poor thing!!!

  • @JADOREJESSY its not real life..

  • @MissVintageRose Ahcem.

    Yes it is :l

  • @JADOREJESSY get a job

  • I'm in love with the song *_*

    But poor dog!

  • Hello!!! There's a Dog outside, alone, in a kennel, in a foot of snow and you're all crowing about the song??

This is advertising at it's most neglectful!! Animal cruelty is NEVER acceptable as a way of glamourising a companies wares!! And this advert shows both negligence and cruelty!

A kid hanging a Yule sock up on the KENNEL IN THE SNOW is going to make certain the Dog is still alive in the morning? Wow!

  • @BeautifulFreak001 Look on the bright side, in this instance, its just an advert and the dog is probably the much loved pet of some rich john lewis employee... But yes animal negligence is bad... especially at Christmas :(

  • @BeautifulFreak001 this ad aint about animal cruelty !!!

  • WOW Ellie is sounding very different and I love it!!! I can't believe I didn't realise it was her (seeing I have her album and seen her twice live!) :D

  • Shocking negligence of a poor dog at the end.
