  • ya them show people ruined the breed I have a 4.5 month Pup and he is showing some good potential but mine comes from a field line not as pretty or as red got white patch on chest, streak on head and paws. but I tell you what he gives them pointers and english setters a run for their money

  • Ive a setter dog from a working line and hes bigger, hairier and heavier than the show type setters. It's great to see a setter doing what it is actually bred for as they are being bred more and more for "looking pretty" type dogs - fantastic to see one in action here!

  • Congratulations, for your awesome dog! In my oppinion, it´s the best breed for hunting, they´re restless and gallope like no one else...

  • true my setter just won't quit even tough she has been running for hours and hours.

  • gorgeous dog! Show breeders in north america have ruined the Irish Setter and Gordon Setter lines. This dog is very similar to my Field line Gordon, similar gait and looks ( ecept colour.

  • I've heard of the Russian Irish setters. You have preserved the old breed!

  • Actually this particular dog brings UK/Ireland blood and no one drop of Russian one.

Several days ago this dog got a CACT (Candidate to Russian FTCh by FCI rules)

  • Really? Well, it is known that the Russians have lines of hunting Irish Setter that are very different for the Field-type lines we have in North America. In fact, they call the American field type Irish setter the "Red Setter." And it is somewhat different. It is much lighter in red.

  • I've just done a post on working line Irish setters. The ones we have in the US are very similar to the ones that were bred into the golden retriever in nineteenth century. We also have the goldens that still have setter features here, too, and the breeds are confused with each other.

  • @Retrieverman1 What do you mean the breeds are confused. In America most people hunt with field red setters now. They are two different dogs. I have a field red setter. Shes small but she is a deep red and doesn't look like a golden at all.

  • Complimenti, good.

  • Notice the rocking, loping gait on this dog. It's called a "wolf hop" or "wolf lope." It is one of the most energy efficient gaits. Only working Irish setters (and very few of them) have this gait, and it occasionally pops up in working golden retrievers (a descendant of Irish setters).

  • Same dog in allmost 1 year, try search for Troy On Snipes or go to my videos.

The gallop is not so rocking as it was before.

  • In working golden retriever, we get this gait because of the Irish setter in them. It's a fault in the show ring for goldens to move like this, but it's helpful in the field.

  • Your golden's move in show ring galloping? Wow! ;)

  • No, the hunting field. In the show ring, it's a fault. And not all goldens have it.

  • i think irish setters were bred more for scaring up birds than pointing, which is why they are hyper and love to run. great dogs, only dog i've come across which is good with children and also protective against strangers.

  • your kidding, right? IS are pointing dogs, or at least ment to be!!

  • IS was and is pointing dog.

Legendary John Nash (Moanruad owner) did his best to return the dead point to red dogs after WW-II.

  • Beautiful Dogs!!!

  • my uncle john used to have one called 'dax' of all names... are theya good gun dog?

  • It depends. One of good blood and after good training will become great gun dog. I've heard a lot of American working red's are realy mad.

  • Russians have lots of working red setters. The US is producing a working red setter, but it's a bit different from the Irish setter breed. It's lighter in color, and quite a bit smaller.

  • irish setters are cool i have one

  • great work . excellent find.

  • awesome bird dogs, i hav 1 of my own

  • not good for hunting

  • Look at 'More from Troy' photos. Wish you to get same results in fields.

  • thats because hes hunting, and on the trail of something, duh

  • they were bred for hunting you idiot! there a sporting dog the only thing is most people use labs and other dogs and not many people use setters anymore.

  • that dog doesn't know how to run... i'm sorry

  • No, he does. After intensive bird shooting the dog runs faster and stylish now. Most important thing this hunting dog looks like IS, when all filed trial dogs look like sh*t.

  • Very naice ypur dog. Speedy and hi head and nose. Beatiful dog , I like so much like to take the wind your dog . I was juice some times in México. ( retriever and bird dogs - horseback-
