Right now, the only way to earn yourself a Perfect Bonus in Sonic 3 & Knuckles is to always collect all the rings in every 3D Special Stage. This not only includes free-floating rings in the 3D Special Stage, but also rings that are generated once a rectangular perimeter of blue spheres is cleared. You're awarded 50,000 points at the end of the 3D Special Stage for collecting all the rings, regardless of if you've earned the Super Emerald at the end of the 3D Special Stage.

Strange that the second stage was shown second and not fourth since it's the fourth one you come across in Sonic and Knuckles. I'm glad you posted this video though, I figured out how to do that stage at one point back in high school, but a few years pass and I completely forgot and didn't want to waste all my Super Emerald Rings on one stage.

The second one is the worst, no matter what ANYONE says.

The music had me going nuts, the ball noise was annoying, and the colors and movement had me in a trance. But, I feel so accomplished. Now. If I could only beat the Special Stages in Sonic 1 and Sonic 2... (Sonic 2 Special Stages are real b!tch as well.)

By the way, you didn't actually do the stages in the proper order.

The way they are meant to be played is starting from the center and working your way out, going from easiest to hardest. From the Hidden Palace, the super emeralds should be activated in the following order:

6-4-2-1-3-5-7

You'll notice that by doing this, the order of the special stages matches the order you play them when doing S&K alone.

Yep, you're right, I know this isn't the real order. I numbered them from left to right because it's simpler, and because many people don't *know* the real order, so it's just easier to say "the second emerald from the left" and not "the fourth emerald in the sequence" :)

@nineko I think it was a good idea of Sega to let us choose which special stages we wanted to do first. I always found the 5th/or Fourth one way harder than the rest, so after failing at it once, I just did the others before replaying it instead of wasting my Giant Ring chances like in Sonic & Knuckles alone.

I used to problems with the second and last emerald, one thing that annoys me is that you end up going so fast that it can be unbearable to time your jumps or make a turn. Because your going so fast, you end up feeling sick.

Sonic 2's Special Stages were actually a lot more fun than this.

I loved this game a bunch when I was about 5 years old,and I always played this game but never got the Special stage for the second emerald on this vid but soon after, when I became 9-10 years old I did it myself and loved hypersonic form with the extra boost and cool colors. I loved this video a lot because you are a true fan of this game who would use the time to make this for others to watch thank you =]

You know, these are actually just the emerald levels from Sonic and Knuckles, but they are actually mixed up. In Sonic and Knuckles, it goes 4th, 3rd, 5th, 2nd, 1st, 7th, and 6th, I think. Actually, I played Sonic and Knuckles first, so I always feel unfamiliar with the "new" emerald layout. Eh, whatever.

The Super Emeralds are little more then get all the blue spheres, the rings mean nothing. A single level to show how to ring around outside of squares... then the rest could be trying to locate the rings.

Awesome! I never pursued the "perfects" because it was slow..lol. you did a really good job and I hold respect for any who have played this game. If you love these stages and want a....challenge...lol...then try putting sonic 1 inside S&K and you get a madness world of these things. A+B+C+start. I got to lvl 321 and some of the blue spheres are in a sea of red ones lol!

Another tip for beginners who really do not care about the "Perfect"s the first time around... The extra running to grab rings burns time and makes some of the stages significantly harder (the second one on the poster's list especially). Kudos for being able to get the perfects and showing everyone that it is possible, but since the score does not save between runs, it may not be as crucial for many to get all the points or that one free life for each "Perfect."
