this can scratch the paint, and cause wind leaks due to bending door frame. And besides that if you get locked out a wal mart how are you just going to materialize a wood wedge and a metal rod seems to me that it would be easier to hide a key on the car somewhere.

here is an idea. go to a locksmith, pay them three dollars for a mechanical key, and hide it somewhere on the car. You ask where? put a ring on it and slide it in one of the slots on the inside of your gas lid. If it wont fit there, punch a 1/4 inch hole in the key. Remove license plate on car put key were the hole was punched on the end of the screw. Refasten the license plate to the car with the key on the backside of the screw and hide it behind the plate. Been a locksmith for 4 years.

@ MollieKinz you can use duct tape and strap the wedge under your bumper or somewhere you can get to it if ur locked out, and then idk about getting the metal i guess youll have to go find a long stick where ever your parked at or ask to borrow someones. but it would be easier just to duct tape a spare key to the underside of your bumper.

Won't work on some newer cars. Just last week I locked my keys in the car, but my windows were cracked open slightly. I used a pole to press the unlock buttons, but I learned that once the doors are closed after locking, they will not longer allow you to unlock with the power locks. I have an '07 Elantra.

Ive got a simple idea, why dont you have a spare key cut(not chipped, just to open door), and tape it to the underside of your car somewhere like the wish bone or ARB? no daft wedges, no stupid rods, just cut it off and open car.

How many people are going to carry a wooden wedge and 4ft long bar with them all the time, your more likely to lock your keys in while away from the house.

used a plank of wood to pry the door partially... then found a thicker piece of wood to open it further so i could put wrenches along the doorway for addition space to fit a long rod or metal bar in the car. as a result the lock was flipped to "unlock" and the car door opened :) this video helped but common sense can be applied as well ;p
