heya i have a really bad bass, which is hasn't had its strings replaced for several years it is really quite as it is a jazz bass and I have never had any lessons and cannot afford any on top of that I have no musical talent but I'm not giving up. You know, with guitar the top 4 strings are exactly the same as bass so with guitar you have best of both.

well but you gotta remember that the top 4 strings on a guitar (while the same note) are actually an octave higher.....but yes the notes are the same, so it depends if you want the low deep sound of a bass or the mid-high sound of a guitar
