  • Streisand. she can sing. the others have to do exercises.

  • For me, "duet" of Lara Fabian and Celine are faaaar the best

  • I am a die hard Barbra Streisand fan. But after listening to Jevetta Steeles version of this song. I have to admit I liked Ms. Steeles version more.. Her version is more soulful, and heartfelt, while Barbra's is more polished and she does the song beautifully. So in their own way both did the song very well just differently. I don't see a need for comparison.

  • Ok, it's official. Barbra is queen, and can sing ANYTHING. ♥

  • I've just listened to all kinds of versions. For me there is no way around it, Barbra is forever my all time favorit artist. She makes any song sound great, and never forgets to tell it's story, by "overdoing" it. She is simply perfekt for my senses! Thank you, Barbra Streisand.......!

  • con questa voce si puo' solo sognare e volare tra i segreti dell'anima!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is good, but I don't think it comes remotely close to the original sang by Jevette Steele from the movie Baghdad Cafe. When Jevette sang this song it sounded as if it came straight from her soul. For those who haven't heard it do yourself a favor check it out.

  • @bwr1948 I agree Jevette Steele's version is awesome. I've listened to several covers of this song from various artist and I'll have to say with regards to the chorus of the song (I am calling you) Lynn Mabry sings that part better than any other artist and delivers the most powerful vocals to compliment the complete complexity of that chorus. She was the background vocalist on George Michael's cover of this song.

  • alors là on sent la grande chanteuse qui n'a pas besoin de forcer sa voix, paardon pour les autres! barbra i love you

  • barbra, i love you!

  • Nice smooth soulful rendition. It works for me. Brava Babs!

  • Georgia version...the best

  • Celine Dion > Barbra Streisand

  • Hermosoo

  • ave

  • Celine's version WAY moe better

  • @misled1982 -- vado a vedere..

  • Holly Cole: best version with clearest and most powerfully held sustained notes of all.

  • @musicbox63

i like Celine Dion's version but the original is the best

  • lara fabian for me

  • Everyone seems to have an opinion, here's mine. Streisand, Dion, and Fabian are among my favorite singers. Steele does a good rendition, too. But, during my exercise routine a version of this song played by "Axus, featuring Naomi." There are versions on youtube. The featured singer has the world-weary sound of the song, plus it's uptempo. This is the one I like best. Opinions are opinions.

  • @musicbox63 I disagree, Dion gives me goose bumps, but I respect that you like javetta's version.

  • I love Celine's version most, as so much more umph

  • @musicbox63

    YOU ARE RIGHT MUSICBOX!!!

  • Beautiful !!

  • @musicbox63 jeff buckley s is pretty good but you are right

  • don't care who's version is better, this song is awesome and Barbra's voice is a God given Instrument, anything she does she makes her own, she does not need to imitate anybody, but other try to imitate her.....!

  • This song is one of my all time favourites, and I didn't even know that Jeff, Celine and Barbra have covered it. As much as I adore Barbra and Celine as vocalists, I have to say they are miles away from Javetta with this song.

  • javetta steele's version is more real and raw it's definately her song..

  • uhmm...no..i don't like this version...

  • I have to say I prefer Jeff Buckley's version to all. But that's because I prefer Jeff Buckley to all. I'm somewhat biased.

  • Merci pour cette vidéo d'une artiste perfectionniste que j'admire aussi. Vielen dank !

  • perfect song for Babs deep sweet voice

  • I agree, Barbara's voice is clearly nice in this but she just doesn't have the same feeling as Jevetta... and I'm so not trying to be like "Bitch ain't got no soul" but it almost sounds like her words are too forced. Jevetta's is just perfect melancholy. Incidentally, what a perfect time for me to re stumble upon this song, 5 minutes after my ex randomly contacted me, and I'm freaking out. It really fits the mood.

  • @Sephiro12 C'mon she isn't forcing the words at all, in fact they just flow. The song's gorgeous - one of the best Barbra's done, and the brilliant Will Gallison's harmonica work here (as for the film score) Streisand knew to hire him for her album, is wonderful. The point is - they BOTH do masterful jobs. I'm a huge Streisand fan, only know the song from her album and NOW know about Jevetta Steel through looking for this version on YouTube. We need to stop comparing artists, just enjoy both.

  • Love Barbara but she doesn't have the pain, the hopefulness, the I love you so bad it hurts, feeling in her voice that Jevetta Steele gives us.

  • I like Babs... but I gotta give it to Javetta

  • i love B but...the original is the best....

  • Barbara the Best Forever!

  • This is masterful..! What's scary though, is that the original Javetta Steele version is so powerful that Barbra borrows the same arrangement in the same key and pretty much imitates it.

Check out Javvett here on You Tube.

  • Thank you for Upload

I added this movie to the collection of this tune in my brog.

    Thank you.

  • well ,i wouldnt know the song if it was not for Barbra,ok?

  • @musicbox63 .. They all sound good to me.. But my fave version of this song is by Paul Young.. sings it with such intensity.. I love streisand but she adds nothing to the beauty of this song

  • Barbra Streisand. uuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuu

  • nr 1

  • I love a lot Barbra ! I'm sorry , but I prefer Javetta for this song !

  • Calling you nn sapevo ke fosse un pezzo interpretato dai + grandi artisti del mondo..

  • Simply stupendous!!!! Perla.

  • now she looks better than earlier..

  • JEFF BUCKLEY---that's the answer musicbox!

  • than hear the version of KALINA KASPRZYK !!!

The best of the best !! In my opinion better than Javetta

  • hear this version !! THE BEST :

    KALINA KASPRZYK CALLING YOU

  • Wow no one can sing this better than Jevetta Steele i listened to almost all versions on youtube i could find. I hope jevetta lives more than 100 years old.

  • @musicbox63 Celine Dion does it better ;)

  • Barbra's version is touching & did it her way...

  • Barbra jest najlepsza , a ta muzyka , dreszcze przechodzą przez moje ciało . Polecam też wykonanie tego utworu przez Kalinę Kasprzak . Porównajcie ;)

  • @ReginaMysterion I could'nt agree with you more. after only knowing the jeff buckley version and going to this, its just not the same.

  • Every one has their personal taste, opinions and likes, but since I didn't see any positive comments on Celine, I have to put my 2 cents in. This song SHOWCASES Celine Dion's voice and vocal "chest" range. I don't see how anyone can not appreciate Celine's gift and talent. Her voice has crystal clear purity and her power is unmatched, period.

  • Of course she is the best ...as long as you haven't heard Jeff Buckley singing it : )

  • @Joetjoeppuntkom Yeah, Jeff's is defo the best. All his covers are the best... As are his songs.

  • @Joetjoeppuntkom Spot on ;)

  • A junção perfeita entre música e voz. Simplesmente maravilhosa.

  • Beste wird grossgeschrieben!

  • Yeah.. she can sing.. but it misses the passion that other covers have put into this.. for raw emotion look at Paul Youngs version..

  • beautiful verison but jeff buckleys is better

  • watch?v=mDN57O1GLj0

  • She does it good, but she's known for years to be a great singer. None and I mean none of these women who sing it, don't have the soul and talent Jeff Buckley has/had so screw you if you think otherwise. They did it cause they wanted to have all this money and what not Buckley cause he was pure, unadulterated genius. Her and Celine can just wish they had what Jeff had.

  • @nat00ben06 I just listened to the Jeff Buckley version and I find a certain irony in your last comment since he sounds just like a woman when he sings. If I'd just heard the song without knowing who was singing, I could be forgiven for thinking it WAS a woman. I personally think this version is far better. Of course that is just my opinion and therefore right in as far as I go. You believe otherwise and therefore that is right in as far as you go. I'm now going to check out Javetta Steele' s...

  • Maravillosa versión!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sensational song and performance! In my humble opinion, this song from the wonderful movie "Bagdad Cafe" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Only a truly great voice would even attempt this haunting song. Lucky for us, three of the great voices of all time, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand & Jevetta Steele (on the movie soundtrack, you never hear about her!??) recorded it (on YouTube). All three are spectacular, and - I don't think I'm exaggerating - almost take your breath away.

  • I didn't know she had covered this song - what album is it from, please?

  • @Bez1960 it's from The Movie Album in 2003

  • @evagabor2005 cheers matey

  • JEFF BUCKLEY

  • @musicbox63 have you heard celine's version. it brings me to tears everytime!

  • @musicbox63 AGREE. Not even the gifted Streisand or Jeff Buckley could match the truly haunting quality of the original version from the film.....it is still the supreme version of an incredible song.

  • @musicbox63 Agree! Even the gifted Streisand or Jeff Buckley could match the haunting quality of the original from the film.

  • @musicbox63jeff buckley

  • i like the version of celine dion than barbra

  • My goodness, this is more than art. I hardly find words to describe what I feel while listening to this song - and HER voice.

  • Plain genius.

  • @musicbox63 Don't be sorry, i am a huge Barbra fan and i totally agree, Javetta singing this song is like magic!

  • Miss Dominique from the french "American Idol" version did a terrific job. Check it out!

  • Take a look at Lorraine Hunt-Lierberson's version. It is amazingly haunting and truly captures the feel of this song!

  • @musicbox63 You are definitely right. Ms. Steele is the best, it's beyond any dispute.

  • SHE is the melody..

  • Ja ,sie ist ein Wunder, sie ist bester was ich kenne

  • @Atsushisarmy

    idiot comment

  • I love Barbra on this song. Celine, not so much.

  • Miss Dominique et Javetta Steele

Sont les meilleures versions ! De loin !

  • For me Streisand is the best singer of the 20th century, however, this song just does not do it for me, and I mean the song not the singer!

  • No Jeff Buckley does :)

  • @liamm5687

    absolutely!

  • i totally agree

  • @HelenaOfMotley

    Me too!!!

  • After hearing all the versions of the song. (It's a cool song to cover) Buckley just like everything he does seems to have more raw emotion, fearlessness and is able to bare his soul through his singing. This is ok!

  • Please behave yourself !

  • just tape miss dominique & u'll see...what a voice better than this woman u'll get shills i promise uuuuuuuu......!

  • I have to say that I was surprised by this version...for me it ranks #3 after #1 Jevette Steele and #2 Holly Cole...although I have to admit I sometime go back and forth on that one...Holly's version is haunting. I dont like the theatrical aspect of the Streisand Version...dont like the melodramatic strings. But BS can sing...always liked her voice just havent like much of her material.

  • What about George Michael's version...I guess George pulls up covers better than originals....

  • @nightman200

Agreed George Micheals version for the win , got to admit though his backing singer really does a fantastic job too.

  • As much as I admire Barbra Streisand, this song is "owned" by Jevetta Steele .... I've listened to many "covers" including people like Etta James, Celine Dion etc etc, no one surpasses Jevetta Steele's original.

  • I completelly agree that each artist has it's own style. I love Barbra' style definitly!

  • to follow up Ms. Jevetta nails it. I also like the dude walking thru the video with the tight jeans on. Right on! Celiine was way over the top and overang this song. I still think Barbra's version is commendable.

  • i still like the original movie version... it fit the film. Nonetheless I think Barbra's version is true and the phrasing as always is flawless.

  • wow .. What a great arrangement ! Imagine it under Celine's rendition! the best

  • Why has there been so much time spent on comparing artist? Each has their own unique quality and style to bring to the song. That doesnt make one better than the other's version of the song.

  • I've read all of the postings. However, no one mentioned Jevetta Steel's version of the song. I'm a blackman that LOVE'S Ms Barbara and she gives it too US on her version of this song. However, Ms Jevetta serves you too with her version. Check IT.

  • I just love Barbara !!

  • Celine version is by far the best version i've ever heard in my life, and it's LIVE, it's even more impressive.

    But babs version is great.

  • I've never heard this song before though I really like and admire Barbara Streisand ))) Thank you for such a great video, Toertchen1983 )))

  • Its good!

    Bit worried about the orchestrations..

    To much!

    Love it though.

    xxx

  • I dont know Celine´s version, but the Barbra´s one is perfectly. A song to dream of.

  • Funny. I much prefer the Streisand version. She much more evokes the mood of the song. Her voice is so rich.

  • BUCKLEY

  • Beautiful!!

  • This is so eerily beautiful... Also, amazing voice!

  • I simply adore her.... she is the best classic for all times, she's so wonderfuuuul!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sie ist und bleibt eine begnadete Schauspielerin,Sängerin und Frau zu gleich......Bei der stimme muß man(n) schwach werden.....

  • I"m Still PROUD of her, and love her so much :)

  • looks the interprétation of "miss dominique" french artist of "la nouvelle star" (american idol french)

  • very stylish as always

she prints her personality on all things she touches

  • The Bridge @ 2:35 is the best part.

  • Barbera you really are great....

  • Great interpretation of this song. She creates such a melancholy mood. That is great singing.

  • Celine's version also beautiful :)

    Celine Dion- Calling you !

  • Barbara, you are the reason I am proud to be Jewish:)

I love you, and Israel love's you so...

  • Which ever version that was for the actual movie Bagdad Cafe was, actually the best. I'm sorry but, I got a thing for original pieces...

  • This is a very nice version. Lara Fabian and Celine Dion versions are great too. But I think Jeff Buckley has all of them beat. His version is amazing. I like Barbara's 2nd. Check out Jeff''s version and tell me what you think

  • I love Celine's the best. I know some will disagree. But after hearing Buckley's I wanted to marry him the most raw and most bittersweet sounding out of all versions.....

  • You are right about his being so bittersweet and raw and I want to Marry Jeff Buckley everytime he opens his mouth lol. I think Celine's is great but no one can touch Jeff's version

  • Another person wants to marry Buckley?! *drops to knees dramatically* No! lol You'll have to wait in line lol

  • One more person to add to the marriage line! Love Buckley. :)

  • Patti LuPone's is THE BEST.

  • agreed.

  • Barbra version is the best! Great voice..

  • I was 17 when i first heard her on those old vinyls from a friend (no CDs yet at that time). Since then i've been hooked on her voice. Everytime i get the chance to visit the US, I would spend hours inside Virgin Megastore or Tower Records or HMV going through her albums and I slowly completed my collection. Barbra is a compleat artist for almost 5 decades now! Truly an institution.

  • i love babs

  • very nice version. quite progressive

  • Very artistic, but I miss the soul Jevetta brings to this tune. Must say there is something in both looks and voice that resembles Cher.

  • While she is not beautiful in the traditional western ideal, there is something captivating about her face (eyes especailly)....look up the photos Francesco Scavullo did of her in mid-70's for the "Classical Barbra" album cover....or as one British reviewer said of her, "Bewitching".

  • who write this song?

  • Bob Telson

  • I much prefer this song sung by the great Barbra, which sounds more touching and sweet than the original!

  • God bless Barbra Streisand! The movie album was a great cd!! Great track on it is Your Gonna here from Me!

  • I agree. I love The Movie Album, its lush without being lavish. Gonna Hear From Me is definitley the best, and Wild is the Wind is my favorite.

  • Perfection... as always.

  • Wow, tht's the HOTtest woman I've ever seen!!! Barbra Streisand = HOTtest woman of all time!!!

  • Barbra es una estupenda entre las grandes, pero la versión de JAvetta es insuperable. Es más de carne y hueso y no peca de estilizada.

  • not javetta, but definitely barbara!

  • I have to say, Javetta has the soul, but is flat on the high notes.

  • mon idole!!!! je ne savais pas qu'elle avait repris cette chanson????

  • I'm so excited to see this. I love this song. She needs to record a second Movie Album.

  • I love Barbra!! She is the light in my life and those were great shots of her!! Wonderful work!

  • freut mich das es euch gefällt...danke

    Great that you like it...thanks

  • @Toertchen1983 look at this is fantastic watch?v=mDN57O1GLj0

  • Those legs go on forever lol .....

  • What a voice!!! Still the BEST!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • i love babs
