so there's a couple of guys wearing black and holding guns, one is on the helicopter, the other on the lifeboat, they probably were sent by an administration to to try and figure out wat is going on. Probably knew the attack was going to happen, since who works in a oil rig completely dressed in black. Or they were there to capture the owners of the company and bring them back to land.

It was covered in one of the other nes reports.... large seismological activity was created by the platform, and it must've distrubed the monster. And, assuing the Slusho theory holds any validity, Slusho is being made from the very food it feeds on.
