David Byrne is good, no contesting that.  But he's also vain. "When the riverbanks talk of the waters of March" He mixed himself much higher than Astrud.

I don't doubt that Byrne has an Ego... That doesn't bother me much.... Just a couple of points:

1) That's NOT Astrud on this recording. It's Marisa Monte.

B) Astrud Gilberto NEVER sang above a whisper in her life... I think that a Recording Engineer would have a hard time making Astrud appear "louder" than an asthmatic chihuahua.

Astrud's voice has no "power". My personal preference is: If you're going to sing, SING! Don't whisper.
