  • thanks :) but when you scream it scares me :P

  • Im scared...

  • Hey there.. I talk with a naturally low voice.. Many peole have a hard time hearing me! they all give me the "huh"? and "what"? because most of the time they never hear me. It get's really annoying because I pretty much have to repeat everything I say. Well, I am a teenager that's 16.. Do you think It's possible that I might have Vocal Paralysis? or something wrong with one of my vocal cords?? Or do you think it could be something else??

  • This gonna mess my vocal cord definitely...

  • the art in the background is rad!

  • DO NOT FOLLOW THIS VIDEO. It only mentions theory and unless you have any idea how to practice that theory, it won't help at all. Like the guy below, I had vocal damage for some time - please don't learn the hard way like me!

Remember that you only have one voice, take care of it :)

  • u mean ur an actress haha jk

  • I like your picture on the right at 0:10, thanks for the tip :)

  • TO THE ONES THAT THINK THIS IS IN SOME WAY 'CORRECT' (BECAUSE MOST OF YOU KNOW THIS IS NOT): DO NOT EVER PRACTICE THIS... UH... THING SHE CALLS 'TECHNIQUE'.... THIS IS JUST YELLING! I HAD VOICE NODULES FOR 3 YEARS... ITS SO HARD TO GET RID OF THEM.... PLEASE!! DO NOT GRASP ONTO ANYTHING THIS LADY IS TRYING TO TEACH... THIS VIDEO IS A PIECE OF GARBAGE!!!

  • She scared my cat o-o

  • spooky paintings on the wall....

    TAKE them of ahhhhhhhhh!!

  • i can "scream" and shout when im singing and it sounds fine (bear in mind im in a punk/psychobilly band) but when im trying to sing into a mic normally its extremely quiet...any ideas?

  • pause at 0:03 its sooooooo funny

  • i like her :))

  • everyone can yell old lady :P

  • EEEY!! real canadian!

  • So let me get this straight, this video is NOT a video on how to project your voice, but rather, a video to tell you that a teacher COULD tell you how.....

  • teeth...ahhh...i.i.i.I'm very scared....

  • @alexandrefenix Loool had the same feeling.. o_o''

  • But... But... But I don't have a car ... D:

  • well i think i already knew how to yell.

  • Not a very good tutorial. Someone starting out is gonna think they have to yell when they sing.

  • holy shit this lady is creepy and annoying

  • AAAAAAAAA GIVE ME MY CAR!!! HAHAHAHAHA WEAK ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS LESSON

  • lovely hairdress

  • Wrong completely. Projecting your voice is being able to increase the volume, the strength, WITHOUT DISTORTING IT. Shouting or yelling distorts your voice, ruins the sound. For voice projection you need to practice humming, make it be heard from across the street, and focus on making the sound strong. Actors like James Earl Jones can just turn up the volume on their voices, it's used a lot for kings and such roles.

  • I like you, it's only been 30sec on the vid and I heart your laugh and voice and your personality? :p

  • haha she is hot

  • It's all well saying open your throat and use your diaphragm but it's no different from saying, "All you gotta to drive a car is drive" - Okay that was a poor example, basically what I'm asking for is a 'How2' Anyone care to spare some charity? :`)

  • I hate that people always either say horrible words or say really mean things about videos!.....good job!

  • SKrY209.tk

  • I love your advice and will totally use it for my future career!

    Thanks

  • ermm...singing loudly. ? not shouting? :L

  • the best youtube vocal coach is (singing success) just type that in.

  • "HEYY! OH MY GOSH, I'M GOING TO THE STORE!!!" Lol :o) Great video though :o)

  • I am watching these video's because I can't get singing lessons and I still want to sing. Todays tip: Get a teacher....

Sure: thats why I watch your video -.-

  • AY!!!!

  • I liked this video because the people commenting know more than this lady.

  • Here's a crazy idea..Oh my god..how about people..like..NOT make rude comments through the expression of their subconscious jealousy and hatred of their own life. :)

  • @Forefrost

Why do you speak like that? Are you a 14-year-old cheerleader?

  • good stuff. cant scream in my apartment though...

  • OK..what the hell is with the words on the screen!!!

  • the subtitles are win

  • The voice cannot be projected. The standard dictionary of vocal terms calls this a "fallacy of 20th Century vocal pedagogy" and can never be accomplished. If one understands the simple physics of how sound waves are created and propagated, one immediately knows this IS fallacy. Obviously, this individual doesn't. Avoid any such nonsense in your training. It's as fraudulent as "Singing from the Diaphragm," which also is an impossibility.

  • @DoctorofVoice singing from the diaphragm should not be taken literally. Of course we know that the actual sound does not come from your diagphragm, but the breath that supports and helps push the sound out rather than pushing from the throat is wht is meant by the phrase "singing or projecting from the diagphragm". The term "projected" is again obviously not to be taken literally. it simply refers to the technique used in order to achieve maximum volume in the voice via diaphragmatic breathing.

  • @micmacpaddywac But students take everything a teacher says literally. Thereby, as a term of mysticism it shouldn't ever be used. And sounds are never to be "pushed out." The Masters thought inward, never ever outward. Down and in are the directions of release; never up and out. Projection again is a term of mysticismm fallacious, and thus, should never be heard by a student. And, finallly, diaphragmatic breathing is inefficient as compared with intercostal breathing by a factor of FIVE!!!!!

  • greate

  • Who doesn't know This?

  • OMG! you have short hair i like it its cute

  • come to my room and i'll make you belt

  • Damn!!! get that girl a weave or something... :/

  • What she does, is wrong. There is a difference between PROJECTING and YELLING. If you are projecting: you put your voice low in the chest and use the air in your chest and then throw your voice towards the person. If you are yelling: you put your voice in your voice box and then you get that little girly-ish voice yelling, THIS COULD ALSO DAMAGE YOUR VOCAL CORDS. Yelling will give no effect if someone steals your car. Projecting is more threatening ^^ XD.

  • @1bosniangangsters1 You appear to be almost as much in error of fact as she is, but not quite. Projection is a fallacy of 20th C. pedagogy (Cornelius Reid, A Dict. of Vocal Terminology, p. 282). Also, the voice cannot be "put" or "placed" anywhere, another fallacy to which a multiplicity of authors object. Decry false comments at will, but do refrain from giving advice until you have studied physiology and physics to prevent yourself from looking as ignorant as she is of vocal fact.

  • @DoctorofVoice true true and true.. BUT! (picks up physics book) you can strengthen your voice! Tighten your abdominal muscles and say what she says (EY) and say it one time with the use of your abdominal muscles and one time without., notice the difference? But, what they mean with projection is that you just lower your voice and 'project' it to someone, this woman is yelling. Do you get my point now?

  • @1bosniangangsters1 Your using a physics book to learn how to sing? Are you nuts?!!! 1) Your object is NEVER to strengthen your voice; your object is to increase in reasonance! It is NEVER a question of brute strength. That is antithetical to learning how to sing properly. 2) Again, you cannot in any way, shape, or form--no matter how you try to rationalize it--project the voice. Use your physics book and look up the speed of sound. (773 mph at STP.) You can NEVER influence that factor.

  • @DoctorofVoice Hhahahaha (sorry) , but first when I read it I honestly thought: And now in English 0.o.. but then I read it a second time and then I understood.. just a second.. hmm that's odd.. yes ok.. you said at STP.. but here it's standing: Speed (of sound) = distance traveled/time taken.. so can you or can't you influence the speed of sound?? ..but, I still don't understand what you mean with the resonance (they don't give much info in my physics book, only an example with a swing >.>)

  • @1bosniangangsters1 STP in chemistry and physics stands for Standard Temperature and Pressure. One cannot influence the speed of a sound wave. A sound wave is created by molecules compressing or rarefying the distance between them, easy in a gas, less so in a liquid (thus sound travels farther and louder in water). Resonance is a process of sound waves bouncing against a wall of some sort and fractionalizing the waves into tinier pieces. (cont.)

  • @DoctorofVoice ok i know what STP is.. (i had that on my test wednesday and it was correct (yay).:P) Thanks for explaining, it makes it much clearer than my oh so intelligent physics book >.>, but I guess you've studied physics? Note: I'm in high school, well I don't know how you classify your students in the US, but in the Netherlands I'm doing the highest level(no, that's not high self-esteem :P), and even then they can't give us proper books >.>,btw, ty for have taken your time for explainin'

  • Respond to this video...(con't.) When a sound of one frequency comes from the vocal folds, the wave of energy travels up through the human resonators, the throat and mouth, most often. Bouncing against the surfaces causes the waves to hit each wave, one coming, one going, in a ever-increasing series of smaller frequencies, each an exact frequency multiple of the first. (con.t)

  • @1bosniangangsters1 (con't.) The overtones or harmonics, added to the original wave, create a "tone." It's how we differentiate one instrument or person from another even without sight. Every instrument, voice included has a different tone due the differences in the resonating chamber involved. These waves of tone (or sound) are molecules being bounced against each other in a never ending series. Your breath can never influence them even a short distance from the mouth. (con.t)

  • Respond to this video... (con.t) Audible air in the tone serves only to distort the purity of the resonated sound wave that exits the mouth, and dry out and damage your vocal folds. In singing resonance is the major factor of tonal production. The less air and muscle involved in producing that purity of tone, the healthier you sound. Thereby, in the contest of resonance vs. muscle, resonance wins hands down. Oh, and sorry about misspelling of resonance in the previous message.

  • Why would the person stealing your car say their going to the store?

  • she is helping people who doesnt know anythin about acting

  • everyone is so disrespectful... if they dont like it y waist time with the coment.. that just goes to show wat there doing with there life..... and i think ur gorgeous. good job

  • ........................................

  • This lady is sooooo NOT an expert! LMAOOO

  • hi athena, i´m watching you from buenos aires, i think you are great and full of light, thanks a lot!

  • This doesn't really explain that to belt like that you have to do it from your stomach ie; say Hey! with yr hand on your stomach to feel it tense...DONT just shout from yr throat..u will wreck yr voices : )

  • Useless.

  • take it from a brodway actress " hey ur stealing my car"

    is not projecting your voice

u gunna believe me or sum spiky haired tard

    XD

  • The spiky haired tard, any day.

  • are you saying you're a broadway actress?

    um. i dunno about that.

  • I appreciate you're effort with this video but I can't help but feel like there is more to projection than just belting.

  • that was the most useless video ever.thats 1.25 muinites im not getting back in my life!

  • So, what's she's saying is, to project, you just have to yell. So USEFUL.

  • Uh...ok. I learned that I can yell. I think I'm ready for a recording contract now. This video is the biggest waste of time in the history of youtube and singing.

  • @suthrnbell0105 Calm down, it's 1 minute and 25 seconds of your life, it's seriously not that bad.

  • @suthrnbell0105 I think this is for acting, not singing.

  • @suthrnbell0105 There is a HUGE difference between yelling and projecting. Totally different use of the voice and muscles.

  • @FoolishTheMortal - she didn't indicate that...she said to pretend somebody is stealing your car.

  • @suthrnbell0105

The point is she's telling you to yell "hey!"

Which forces you to use your diaphragm.

  • @suthrnbell0105 You're a dumbass.

This is like watching a video called "how to exercise" and commenting, sarcastically, "Ok, now I'm ready to be a health trainer. Haha what a waste of time". You fking idiot, the video is titled "how to project", and it's there to teach you that, not how to become a superstar diva. Not once in the video does she mention that this is going to help you win a recording contract. You're putting stupid words into her mouth to make an argument that doesn't exist.

  • @gobipill - Yeah, well...looks like people agree with me, so why don't you go "project" the business end of a shotgun into your mouth and make your parents happy? xoxo.

  • @suthrnbell0105 Lol u mad bro?

  • @gobipill - No way. I even left some "xoxo"s for you. I've been called way worse by far better.

  • @suthrnbell0105 Cool

  • ...

    I didn't learn a single thing..

  • This was retarded, do people need to be taught how to yell?

Not good technique, this was basically just a video telling you to get a vocal coach.

  • yes we do.

  • thank you soooo much

  • uhhhh ok

  • ''EEeeeey! O My Gosh! Get this crazy lady away from me!!''

  • @girlswanascrewme ur so rude !

hunnie just exit of u dont like the lady its pretty simple or are u dumb..

  • @girlswanascrewme oi ur so rude !

hunnie just exit of u dont like the lady its pretty simple or are u dumb..

  • Kimberley watch this twice! It's good!

  • GaryProVox, that's pretty mean dude your probably a a Gemini or Capricon

  • Dude i take that offencive because im a Gemini and i amj not like that

  • Yet you don't have a problem with a person that is not educated calling herself a teacher.

  • But I do have a problem with someone puting themselves out there as an "academic" who repeatedly insults people and talks down to them like little children. Like a typical learned snob.

    Having a Master's degree doesn't mean you're smart - it just means you're educated.

If you were smart you'd have learned better manners by now. For God's sake you're almost 50 yrs old. Time to grow up..

  • I'm a Gemini but I would NEVER - EVER talk to a prospective student this way.

Is this how you teach people - by calling them ignorant and stupid?

"people, like me, with master's degrees". It figures. A member of the "Academia" with no table manners.

No videos and no subscribers. That says it all.

  • LOL! true. I like the fact self proclaimed expert with no videos or clips. Just insults all around roffles ;) good call.

  • Posting a video does not make you an expert on anything.

  • No it doesn't - as is evident by the millions of videos on this site by so called "experts".

But at least they're doing something, which is more than you are doing.

You're very typical of these types of forums. Someone who comes on this site, "claims" to be this or that, without a shred of evidence and then proceeds to insult and denigrate people they do not know.

Show us who YOU are and maybe we'd have some respect for what you're saying. At least I can back it up.

  • Doing somthing just to promote yourself and make money off of people who want to get information on singing, and giving wrong information, is unethical. I'm at least commenting from an experts point of view. I find it strange that you call yourself a singing teacher, but don't like correct information on singing. Why are you attacking me and not the information given in the video?

  • Are you an expert? I see no evidence of this whatsoever. Show us your expertise instead of your insulting behavior.

You came into this comments section basically coming off as a vocal snob. You're probably a Bel Canto/Classical voice type purist with no tolerance for new vocal pedagogy.

But I will say this in your defense : Expert Village is well known to have some of THE worst videos for singing on You Tube.

  • First of all, new vocal pedagogy is my expertise. I know there are classical vocal snobs that are out there, I had to deal with many during my undergraduate and graduate degrees. And to think that no education, and rejection of the latest in voice sciences and techniques, is new vocal pedagogy is snobbish.

Many of us are fighting to get modern vocal pedagogy as the standard in the universities.

And yes, we agree expert village is the last place to get expert information on singing.

  • This woman is a fool. Just another unsuccessful actor, singer, waitress.

  • thank you for the advice but how do I get my throat to open up and is projection and resonation the same? I am a singer that had to have a surgery on my throat and my vocal chords were injured.. can you help.. thanks

  • You might start with not taking advice from people like the lady in the video. Find an actual highly educated voice teacher.

  • harsh, but spot on.

  • She's simply sayin' that your talking voice is your singing voice..If you need more help, watch EricArceneaux'S vocal warm ups. I promise you, you won't regret. They helped me a lot : )

    Sorry abt the injury.

  • Eric Arceneaux is no better.

  • Heya! I've recently gotten better at my vocals and its all thanks to me. I just began by singing at the level i talk at. Also, opening your mouth wide and using your whole face really helps coz it makes it better for you to sing using the air from your stomach. Remember to allow yourself to breathe as muchas you can coz its the air that you breathe in that helps to sustain your voice. I really hope it helps, otherwise, just practise and you will finally get it. All the best!! : )

  • Unless you are a weak singer, you don't sing at the same level you talk. You don't sing with air from your stomach (that's burping). Air comes from your lungs, not your stomach. You get what you pay for when you get your free singing advice from the internet. This is the 21st century, we now actually have people, like me, with master's degrees in vocal pedagogy and performance. Stop getting your information from ignorant people who are too lazy or stupid to get educated.

  • how do you open your throat... that is what confused me:(

  • If you need more help, watch EricArceneaux'S vocal warm ups. I promise you, you won't regret. They helped me a lot : )

  • thats pretty basic... have you taught any one famous? i know i have a pretty good voice my self i have a 6 octave range and pretty good pitch.
