WOW !!! Lou Holtz did not come and stay at a players bed side till he got cured. He probley met him 3 or 4 times and had no time to develope a relationship. If Lou was expected to spend some time with every Team member and person who did not make it to the team. He would be 1/2 his life going to hosptials and home of these ones who lost out ! Friends come to your side & No Business dealers. Also i didn't hear anybody call on Jesus to come see him at all ! He can heal him in a second !

As an Irish kid from South Bend, I obviously have a spot in my heart for Lou Holtz. However, and I know it has to be true just listening to Jason Peter's tone and voice, this is sickening. I'm really saddened to know that Holtz would not have done anything to reach out to that family. As terrible of a job that Weis did and even though he's not the nicest guy ever, I know he wouldn't have done that. That's just dispicible all around.

What was edited out of this clip was how coaches like Mack Brown, Tom Osborne and others called and visited him in the hospital even though he didn't even commit to them. Maybe if your brother or son (god forbid) suffers from possible paralysis and then gets blown off by somebody who made a promise to have his back then you will understand.

i disagree with taking it so personally. the guy in the sound byte comes off as a huge whiner. children are only special to their parents and friends--the rest of the world really doesn't care, and that's the way it is. coaches might develop a bond, perhaps, but if they don't, it's no use crying over spilled milk especially when you didn't even end up playing on the team.

college players need to realize that this is a GAME we're talking about, not life and death. they also need to wise up and realize that coaches are there to win, not to make players "men" and "run through walls" and other silly stuff like that. this guy comes off as totally naive. does that excuse holtz not visiting the guy? no, but is it the worst thing he could have done as a head coach? definitely not.
