Also, they put him in the Blue Blazer gimmick cause he turned down a sex storyline with Debra McMichael and that was something he didn't want to do as well.

@nfwvideo1 They didn't release that PPV on DVD, but I was referring to Martha presumably suing to block the release of Owen footage. That's why I'm confused, and why I think there must have been something in the settlement agreement that gave Martha footage rights that other performers don't have. The lawsuit just seems so bizarre on the surface. There has to be more to it.
Couple thoughts: a) Vic Morrow was decapitated on the set of the "Twilight Zone" movie, which is available on DVD. While the family did sue for damages, they couldn't legally block the release of the film; b) There must have been something in the settlement that granted Martha some sort of rights to Owen's footage; c) Martha is Canadian, so she had no dog in the 2010 Election fight. Her lawsuit was timed with the DVD release, not the election; d) Bret is a mark for himself. Enough said.

Martha is doing what any spouse of an athlete musician or actor does after that spouse dies after they die, she's protecting his legacy by trying to take control of his video library to prevent cheap cash in unauthorized releases that being put out that contain his image likeness or performances.
It's a common business practice of the WWE to release unauthorized (by the talent) DVD's as a way to make more money off of former roster members like The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage.
Actually the WWE and Vince McMahon both have a long sordid history of shafting the estates of deceased members and former members of their roster in order to save money on royalties along with thirty years of illegal monopolistic business practices.

I'm sure almost all of the people who were in attendance at the arena that horrible night in Kansas City realized that something really really terrible had happened to Owen and most of them probably realized that he had died ( he was lying in the ring for something like ten minutes being worked on by EMT's before being without moving speaking or any other physical reaction) so they would have understood if the show had been ended early as long as they got a full refund on their tickets.
In the WWE's defense, while under contract, in a wrestler is injured and needs treatment, the WWE fronts the bill and the wrestlers are payed their downside guarantee while they are recovering. I remember watching over the edge live in England it came on at 1;00am. Anyway when Owen died in the ring later it showed Vince going in ambulance some fake storyline seeing blood in the ring and a dent should have stopped the show but no. If you don't think wrestlers aren't stunt men then you must be blind. The kind of stunt he was doing has even been frequently done by various rock stars as they enter the stage. Sting was doing that type of stunt in WCW. I've trusted a safety harness and done some crazy stuff in Pigeon Forge on a SkyCoaster and survived. If the harness had have held, he wouldn't have needed to be a super stunt man to make his entrance. No one wanted to see Owen get hurt. How it happened is a mystery.

They devoted the entire show to Owen. The entire WWE expressed their love and admiration for the performer and the man. I watched the show and had tears in my eyes as the men and women shared stories and aspects of his character. I though it was most respectful and heartfelt.

When I watched the tribute shows for Owen and Eddie I was convinced that most everyone spoke from the heart and that those who shed tears were shedding them genuinely. So many of the wrestlers broke character. It is significant to me that years after both tribute shows, I have never heard a participant question the veracity.

I think Martha Hart is right at least about one thing and that was the blantant disrespect after Owen got killed and how they just went on with the show after it should have been cancelled right then and there. I also fault the Kansas City police department for not shutting the event down due to a death in the ring that could have easily been assumed as a homicide in which it wasn't but I feel that the WWE was wrong for not cancelling the show as well as the Kansas City police department.
Wrestlers work though broken bones and other injuries to please the crowd; on with the show is the mentality of everybody in the business - WWE management, employee, or indy performer. Owen's death is tragic, absolutely. Can you name me a performer that didn't want to compete on the evening of Owen's death? I don't know of any; most want to work even more in order to honor Owen.

That's why I'm confused, and why I think there must have been something in the settlement agreement that gave Martha footage rights that other performers don't have. The lawsuit just seems so bizarre on the surface. There has to be more to it.

Couple thoughts: a) Vic Morrow was decapitated on the set of the "Twilight Zone" movie, which is available on DVD. While the family did sue for damages, they couldn't legally block the release of the film; b) There must have been something in the settlement that granted Martha some sort of rights to Owen's footage; c) Martha is Canadian, so she had no dog in the 2010 Election fight. Her lawsuit was timed with the DVD release, not the election; d) Bret is a mark for himself. Enough said.

Martha is doing what any spouse of an athlete musician or actor does after that spouse dies after they die, she's protecting his legacy by trying to take control of his video library to prevent cheap cash in unauthorized releases that being put out that contain his image likeness or performances.
It's a common business practice of the WWE to release unauthorized (by the talent) DVD's as a way to make more money off of former roster members like The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage.

I'm sure almost all of the people who were in attendance at the arena that horrible night in Kansas City realized that something really really terrible had happened to Owen and most of them probably realized that he had died ( he was lying in the ring for something like ten minutes being worked on by EMT's before being without moving speaking or any other physical reaction) so they would have understood if the show had been ended early as long as they got a full refund on their tickets.

In the WWE's defense, while under contract, in a wrestler is injured and needs treatment, the WWE fronts the bill and the wrestlers are payed their downside guarantee while they are recovering. I remember watching over the edge live in England it came on at 1;00am. Anyway when Owen died in the ring later it showed Vince going in ambulance some fake storyline seeing blood in the ring and a dent should have stopped the show but no. The wrestlers who showed sadness was the Rock crying when he was coming in the ring and the Undertaker you can see he has been crying and trying not to. Good on Martha make Vince Bankrupt. WWE is shit no Stone cold when it was the WWF that was the shit.

If you don't think wrestlers aren't stunt men then you must be blind. The kind of stunt he was doing has even been frequently done by various rock stars as they enter the stage. Sting was doing that type of stunt in WCW. I've trusted a safety harness and done some crazy stuff in Pigeon Forge on a SkyCoaster and survived. If the harness had have held, he wouldn't have needed to be a super stunt man to make his entrance. No one wanted to see Owen get hurt. How it happened is a mystery.

Martha claims the WWE disrespected her husband after his death. Yes, they continued their PPV show. What else could they have done? Cancelling the remainder of the show could have cost them millions of dollars. However, the following night on their prime time TV show RAW, they devoted an entire two hours to the eulogizing of Owen Hart in one of the most emotionally charged shows I have ever seen. Showmanship was discarded and fellow wrestlers and management spoke about Owen from the heart.

Those that knew or feared the worst still continued because they felt that Owen would have wanted them to continue or because they knew the harsh business realities. That "companies would have understood" is a naive assumption that does not take into account the PPV refunds, cost of the arena, ticket refunds, and production costs. Vince only did what needed to be done. He didn't act to disrespect Owen

@Notebookwriter1: I respect your point of view through this whole thing as I will never know (nor anyone else) why Vince did what he did. Perhaps in retrospect he might even do things differently. In the middle of a PPV a wrestler had a tragic accident and Vince had to make a spur of the moment decision whether to continue or stop the event. I can't imagine what I would have done under the circumstances. How do you sort out the circumstances and make the right decision for everyone?

The WWF got negative heat for continuing the show, and if they would have cancelled the show, there would have been a lot of pissed off people, but maybe understanding because the audience had no idea what was going on, and the people at home knew that Owen was pronounced dead..either decision would have had a negative outcome..I wish Owen didnt do that stunt, period

They devoted the entire show to Owen. The entire WWE expressed their love and admiration for the performer and the man. I watched the show and had tears in my eyes as the men and women shared stories and aspects of his character. I though it was most respectful and heartfelt.

While it's good that friends get to share their feelings, it's also exploitive, and a way to get ratings. Same thing goes for the Eddie tribute episodes. The best tribute they could have done was the one they had for Benoit. Just showing his best matches.

When I watched the tribute shows for Owen and Eddie I was convinced that most everyone spoke from the heart and that those who shed tears were shedding them genuinely. So many of the wrestlers broke character. It is significant to me that years after both tribute shows, I have never heard a participant question the veracity.

I think Martha Hart is right at least about one thing and that was the blantant disrespect after Owen got killed and how they just went on with the show after it should have been cancelled right then and there. I also fault the Kansas City police department for not shutting the event down due to a death in the ring that could have easily been assumed as a homicide in which it wasn't but I feel that the WWE was wrong for not cancelling the show as well as the Kansas City police department.

Wrestlers work though broken bones and other injuries to please the crowd; on with the show is the mentality of everybody in the business - WWE management, employee, or indy performer. Owen's death is tragic, absolutely. Can you name me a performer that didn't want to compete on the evening of Owen's death? I don't know of any; most want to work even more in order to honor Owen.

Exactly. It is very sad what happened to her husband Owen, but Owen worked for the WWE/F. He played a very important role in the company, and should be remembered and recognized for it. The WWE occasionally uses his name, or shows him in clips sometimes in promotional videos, and Martha wants nothing of the sort. She's suing the WWE yet again, and this is over 10 years later. Even Owens brother Bret has moved on, even considering his unforgettable dispute with the WWE.
