I am familiar with several decades of Dale Leys' work. This is a radically different structure for a Dale Leys drawing. There are other differences, such as a significant incorporation of the color of the paper, and a widespread use of red. The line becomes the feature, as the contrast on the mostly bare paper brings the lines forward, then as I find the line drawings in the white checks among the red, the red tries to come forward, like looking at the tile floor in Pompeii.
