I think what is often lost today is that masculine identity used to be associated with a lot of positive things, like being strong and protective and chivalrous and brave and adventurous etc but now too often masculinity is just associated with abuse and violence and selfishness. Of course women can have the good (and bad) "masculine" qualities too, like men can have "feminine" ones, but it is a shame for the very idea of the masculine to be seen as something mostly negative.
Just to take it further, I almost hesitate to think that it is 'masculinity' itself that is the problem. The big issue is how it is defined in our society and in the heads of boy/men/male-ID folks, and people interacting with them. A big mess.

Hi Jasper!

So then, I guess, how do we fix it? Or change it?
