For example, a few years ago, I turned a water hose on people who were kicking my front door security gate. I was home alone. The attackers were a group of many. I was charged, prosecuted and found guilty of assault.

If I attempted to resist arrest or imprisonment I could have been killed by the police while resisting arrest or by the prison officers while attempting escape. In a case like this, the Queen's state considers the resident guilty and if you resist they can kill you.

In Australia, residents were fined for creating fire breaks so many burned to death in bush fires.

Thats assuming that the suspects are identified; always difficult when dealing with a group, although this CCTV is brilliant. Thereafter repeated incidents could lead to arrest. I can tell you without any fear of contradiction that to arrest that whole group would keep the majority of a shift of officers tied up for a whole day. And the likely outcome? Warnings...reprimands...cautio­ns....court very unlikely, and then the whole lot are back out to do it again. The system needs to change.

THE PROBLEM is how to deal with these scum. I come from an enlightened and informed perspective when I say that the law does not adequately provide the necessary means to punish them. The substantive offence being committed here is harassment, which technically can carry five years. NO ONE gets that sort of term for it. The harassment act provides that a "course of conduct" (ie over a period of time) must be demonstrated, and the suspects ideally must receive a warning first. All of them.

However, the thinness of the glass, as opposed to the thicker dimensions you mentioned means that it vibrates more easily - like a drum skin, not like a stone-wall.

So thicker-glass would not make so much noise, and may even be bullet-proof as well, so it would be nice but I can't really afford it.

I propose a measured punishment regime based on doubling the prison term for each subsequent offence. So ...

1 week in prison for the first banging on a window offence (assuming that's ALL it is - if there is criminal damage done or people harmed, MORE time in prison)

2 weeks in prison for the 2nd offence.

4 weeks for the 3rd offence

8 weeks for the 4th

16 weeks ft 5th

32 wft 6th

etc.
