@sm0kingJay Stopping progress just to keep job positions would slow mankind. That's not a good reasoning. People should adapt to these innovations. I bet these also break, so learn to fix them too. Nothing is unbreakable.

Head in the clouds and not as much as a toe on the ground. This is NOT Industrial Design. Design for manufacture is Industrial/Product Design. They should of approved winners of people that actually know materials and manufacturing processes.
Unlike most people I hate to be negative, but... almost all of these things aren't based on general engineering principles, have little or no value in a present day modern home, and require people to adjust to them not vice versa.
And this is the best Electrolux managed to select - sell their stocks right now.
It's amazing what people come up with when they don't need to worry about such things as physics, practicality, or whether or not something could actually ever work.
The only design here that has any potential is the washing machine basket you can hang on the wall, and even then, it is SO prone to mechanical failure (any material that would be sturdy enough for it would be too heavy for it) that it will never see the light of day.
Another finalist that is NOT mention is of mine creation, a car that can transform into a Cube that is 90% smaller, so you can stored it and save a lot of space...
i'm pretty sure all these technology would be rather expensive. energy saving is good, but I want to see something affordable for our third world counterparts
It'd be cool if they provided any glimpse of scientific reasoning behind one of these things. Because I have a sweet idea, a robotic genie that grants your every wish as well as solves the space issues thus making these inventions useless.
The only ideas I think are practical at all are the external refrigerator, the Snail thingo, the shelving (very neat) and maybe the steam clothes cleaner
is this even based on any current technological/scientific evidence? cause as far as i'm concerned we might as well have flying cars and could all be living on the moon.
i could make up all this shit too, cause hey, as long as we're dreaming..
Not revolutionary, but it does make you think how our society will be in 50 or 100 years. The idea of all food coming in packaged 'pill' form was particularly thought provoking
I hate this big growth of "ideas for future engineering" lately, and how they have these sleek presentations, and dumb ideas, with NO ENGINEERING BASIS BEHIND THEM.
It's like somebody let all the designers do the work and didn't consult a SINGLE engineer.
The only one I can see working is the solar-fridge. The rest more or less sounds 'cool', but I have yet to hear of any way of ACTUALLY making it happen. (That goes for all of the concepts.)
K, gotta admit, the virtual reality helmet looked really dumb and the Eco Cleaner looked somewhat dumb ("a future where food is supplied in capsule form"... really? I never signed up for the all-capsule diet and I don't plan to) BUT the rest of the ideas looked quite awesome, do want. Please make the rest of them!
I dont know why companies make this, show pieces of pretty plastic saying that would do wondrous things... How? With maaaaaagic! Stop insulting our intelligence, please
@AXGOD707 Well because they are just cute images and made up descriptions, they don't actually exist more than the spaceships I used to draw as a child.
I think that helmet is a good idea, But if it were brought over to the US, There'd be lots of food being made.... Almost everyone smokes weed, Imagine? lol
as some have said i find the helmet idea unnecessary, i dont like it, of these is the least i like. The ones i like more are the refrigerator, very good idea, saves space and reduces the unecessary parts of the machinne like door. the gel seems to fit well the purpose. Elements modular kitchen, clean closet, dismount washer and the winner are very good too :)
@pizzaday420 2050 is when the majority of the population in the world is living in cities, not when these technologies come out. This is merely a demonstration for items that would save space in the cramped future.
@Lunarvx22 We can imagine many things. That's where all inventions begin. If we can't imagine it, it's not possible, or our species has finally reached the point where our collective IQ barely goes over fifty.
the virtual reality headset kitchen with the robots is so damn impractical that i laughed out loud watching this. only a couple of these make sense, but that one in particular is just terrible.
