I should've listened to more of the clip before commenting. Meier alleges that _both_ popes Paul 6th and John Paul 1st were murdered.
If that's true, the Vatican became a lot more compassionate during a single papacy; nobody knocked off John Paul 2nd, even when he became something of a liability in his final months.

Interesting tale, but it was Pope John Paul I who was murdered, not Paul VI. Paul had been experiencing health problems for some time.
