To avoid Herod's murder of all firstborns under the age of 2, they fled to Egypt, and returned to Nazareth after Herod died (when the angel told them). Another prophecy was that Messiah would be called out of Egypt (and He was). Offering of Isaac as a sacrifice by Abraham was a foreshadowing of Father God's sacrifice of His Son on the same mountain. Free will, dominion, that this is a transitory existance, peace of God, that we are his hands, etc. These concepts are unknown to someone that does not walk with God, so they will stumble on the hardships of this world.
