Captain Pellew was growling his words and clearly seething, and yet he didn't want the Spanish captain to think he was angry...Psst, Sir Edward, the guy is standing right in front of you.
"You tell him, sir…'Damned if I'll let him see he's made me angry"
"Get him over the side, with dignity."
I do very much like the character of Sir Edward. And how much each of us who are endowed with high potential and even higher aspirations needs one to keep us along the right path.
yay!!! i finally got to see this!!! i tried to get it on a site that has shows that you may have missed, but that took like 20 mins to load and it only got to play for THREE MINUTES until it froze.... thanks funnyflyingdutchgirl!!!! :)
I can't believe there aren't more films covering this era. I have all the Hornblower films on DVD, all the Sharpe films on Blu-ray, Master and Commander 2 disc special edition DVD, Waterloo (1970) on DVD....but after that I am struggling to find Napoleonic era TV or movies. Any recommendations?
@GhibliFan1 There's The Charge of The Light Brigade (the 1960s version) which is the Crimean war but I really like it, and also a film called The Duellists which is pretty good. But you're right, there should be more.
@T1carus I know you put this up a year ago T1. Are you speaking of the last of the book? Ioan is trying to get the series started again. Makes sense that as Hornblower progressed in rank there still would be material. Someone did say that the best part of the books had been done when they did these episodes. I haven't read the books but it does make sense that unless Hornblower is commanding a ship he'd probably not be as interesting BUT a clever writer could do it! I have faith. :) Songs
The story is more tightly knitted together, the acting (especially the fighting) is much more realistic, the accents are real... and as for the cordiality, that was normal in the 1800's...
so in short they're both good but hornblowre has to come out on top
I actually did.....well, I got my brother and sister in law to buy it me for Xmas. I'm loving them. I've watched 5 and only have 3 left now :( I'd give A&E the money to finish the series, in line with the number of books, if I had it to give. Yes, I found it THAT good.
that may well be the case but im sure your grandfather would'nt want you namedropping , and even if he isnt, don't you think your real grandfather would be heartbroken to hear you say these things
haha yes I understand:) yes, the duel is good, but I think "the duchess and the devil" is one of the best, because it is there horiatio find archie again and you really see their friendship
The thing i like about the examination for lieutenant and the duel more then the froggs and lobsters and the duchess and the devil, is that there are more scenes at sea. But i have to admit, the duchess and the devil shows the bond between archie and horatio better than all the others and it does have a nice fighting scene at the begin.
I think he was pretending not to understand, because if you watch, after the french captain takes command of the er--dingy, and Horatio and his men are rowing, he relays to his men what the French are saying.
no he understood it but was prententing not to to trick the french into believeing that no one know what was going to happen, french in the books is one of hornblowers best langages since he learned it as a boy and he becomes v good at spanish as well cos he is imprisioned latter
that is captain hammond and if u think about it optimistically, hammond challenges foster to a duel at the end of the episode, and think he killed foster because he shows up in later episodes
Captain Pellew was growling his words and clearly seething, and yet he didn't want the Spanish captain to think he was angry...Psst, Sir Edward, the guy is standing right in front of you.

That's odd; didn't Horatio not understand the Frenchmen in the last episode? Yet it appears he speaks fluent French in this.
No matter. Great show.

I can see why the kind of people here would be called such, despite how good the show really is.
Be yourself, but find things that allow you to relate to others. Sports and guitar worked well for me.
