Lol, they took it in a whole new direction, and can't say that's a completely bad thing. I could get used to listening to this occasionally, and it's not an attempt to carbon copy the original which is the way covers should be... Though listening to it makes me yearn for the real thing.

I always thought this song was just about a break-up, but there's so much more to look into, its amazing. I suppose you don't get the exact same feeling with the original, but that's okay, because the original is still there but like I said, we're seeing the song in a new light with this cover, and its good. :)

The power of this cover comes from its restraint; they hardly use more than 1 guitar for Pete's sake, and they hardly ever use drums. You can feel the oceans of anger, jealousy and exhaustion trying to break out from under his composed singing during the verses.

This is a guy pretending he's ok, and it's only at the chorus he lets go and conveys honestly his exhaustion, contempt and bitterness.

The music itself is so bittersweet. It's joyful and sad at the same time.

Sometimes you'll feel his happiness in the music and in lines like 'i'll see you at a movie sneak preview'

which make the sadness he conveys even more poignant and real.

I also love the line 'did you hear? he fucked her'.

Again said with restraint but you can feel the anger and cruel contempt in his voice.

It's also a witty song because there's sarcasm when he sings "I guess this is growing up".

I get the impression this is a guy who is tired of life, tired of not getting the things he wants or being understood.

At the end the vocals sound like they're far away, showing that his emotions aren't really being heard by those around him.

And the violin at the end is perfect, it's conveys the sadness so well.

i really hated this cover at first. i give them credit though. the point of a cover should be to make it your own while paying tribute to the band who had done the original. this is the best song to play when coming back from a hangover or when you just wanna mellow out.
