Wait. No. How does this work? Either "Submissive Lover" or "poopiedeloopie" doesn't know shit. Whichever one is praising Greenday. AMERICAN IDIOT!! Are you fucking serious. That song is nothing but terrible. Besides it being an embarasingly demagougic, ill-informed, and nauseatingly generic take on world politics or whatever the fuck that guy thinks he's talking about.
@TheTeekayes There's nothing Demagougic about bashing the government, particularly George Bushes reign, for being a nation controlled by the new, biased media, and the demonization of anyone who challenged the political leaders of the time. It seems you don't quite grasp the notion of political dissent, which is exactly what this song is about. It sums the state of the country through a sociological reflection in the lyrics. Moronlol, conservativefail,Bitch.
@submissivelover Butch didn't produce Warning. Green Day produced Warning themselves with Rob Cavallo as exec. producer. And Butch only worked with the Foos on Wasting Light and two of the songs off of the greatest hits disc. All the other Foo albums were done by Barrett Jones (debut), Gil Norton (Colour And The Shape, ESP&G), Adam Kasper (Nothing Left To Lose, One By One), and Nick Raskulinecz (In Your Honor, One By One). Sorry for butting in, I just wanted to get the facts straight.
@jimmyjazz82391 Why are talking about Warning? no one mentioned warning. I don't care about warning. I don't care about the Foo Fighters or Green Days other albums, he produced great bands, that's the point. that's why i refer to the Foo Fighters and Green Day. Besides, the albums Butch Produced sold well, which was the point.
Haters gonna hate, I feel that In Utero was best served by Albini's technique. Just as Nevermind was best served by Butch Vig's technique. I prefer the vocal layering of Nevermind, but I love the guitar and drum sound on In Utero.
I found most Nirvana stuff since "Bleach" strangely uninvolving. I really did want to like "Nevermind" and "In Utero" but, despite re-listening to them at various times over the years, remain unsatisfied by them.
I never got why Steve Albini has more underground credentials then Butch Vig. Nevermind was recorded for less money...Albini even fucked up by Not knowing Nirvana at all and lowering the most important part of Nirvana, Kurt's vocals. Scott Litt definitely saved those sessions by his mixing. He just didn't know shit. Though nirvana is to blame as well for highering a jackass. It was a mistake, I've heard the Albini mixes, there's no Bass and the vocals are way to low
@submissivelover because Butch Vig sucks? I like what he did on Nevermind, but all the other records produced by Vig I know are records I don't like. Such as all the Foo Fighters' records, not only because I don't like their sound, but because of the way they were recorded. He also did 2 records for Green Day, which is normally a band I love, but the two he did are my least favorite. The songs are there, but they don't sound well. Vig erases rawness. I prefer Albini and his methods.
@VampireLikeYouAndMe Yeah, i get you, you're entitled to your opinion, but regardless of what you like, a lot of the albums he's produced have been incredibly successful. Foo Fighters and Green Day i would have to say, their recent songs haven't been there for me, but i always considered the recording top notch. 21st century breakdown? songs were terrible. Meanwhile Albini's just a prefered taste really, otherwise, he's a poor producer, missing out on elements of bands like vocals and bass.
@submissivelover I see what you're saying with Albini just chosing better bands and all, but not on being a poor producer. I like the rawness of his work, and the ethics involved with his producing. As for Green Day, I was more referring to Warning:, which Butch Vig also did, than to 21stCB. I like the album, and I don't think the songs are really terrrible, but there aren't many that really stand out. And Foo Fighters, well I just don't really like them I guess.
@VampireLikeYouAndMe Like i would dare say, where would "Surfer Rosa" be had a better producer recorded and mixed the album. I just view him as over-rated and just a hipsters view of an "Independent producer" like i said, he records poorly, bass and vocals are neglected in his mixes. He's known for that, and those mistake are embraced by some and damned by most. I would only point out the Pixies and Nirvana as worthy acts he's produced. all the others are chumps and hacks.like bush
@submissivelover pure ignorance - the jesus lizard? pj harvey? will oldham? dirty three? low? the ex? joanna newsom? THE STOOGES? if those folks are chumps and hacks to you, you either have terrible taste, or, as i would have to imagine, you are spouting nonsense on the internet without knowing what you are talking about. say what you will about albini's sound or method, but to suggest that "Pixies and NIrvana" are the only "worthy acts he's produced" is pure retard.
@bklmsoul Jesus Lizards-Nobodies, PJ Harvey-Fucking NO ONE OF IMPORTANCE, Will Oldman-Never heard of HER, and the rest of them Chumps and cunts and losers are worthless. I admit i over looked The Stooges. I must have missed that while reading about him. Otherwise, these other groups are bottom of the barrel indie acts. I stand full well by my statement. Nirvana, Pixies, and i'll add Stooges are the only worthy acts. The other bands are No ones. Poor bands with small followings.
@submissivelover Jesus Lizard are nobidies? Hmm... very interesting because that was David Yow's band... he was the lead singer of Scratch Acid, one of Kurt Cobain's favorite bands. Nirvana even did a split EP with Jesus Lizard (I think thats the only band Nirvana ever did that with). PJ Harvey was also a massive influence on Kurt Cobain. You have no musical knowledge, especially considering your reference points are Green Day and Foo Fighters. Please stop picking fights online.
@poopiedeloopie Apparantly Splitting EP's with Talented bands before they were famous makes your impact on MUSIC extremely significant? You have no Knowledge of ANYTHING. I'm a large Nirvana fan, and I've been reading about kurt cobain since i was 14. John Lennon, the Pixies, The Melvins, Zep/Sabbath were MASSIVE influences on Kurt Cobain, not PJ Fucking Harvey. Right? Greenday and Foofighters have only lasted 10+ years and continue to remain relevent to this day. tryHarder
@submissivelover 1993 was before Nirvana was famous? No, thats just before you were born. I'm not going to argue with someone who actually listens to Green Day, haha!
@poopiedeloopie Oh shit you're such a pretentious Douche. Is Green Day "Too Mainstream"? you fucking Hispster Poser fag. I had no idea, i couldn't tell at first that this was coming from a Hipster. Regardless of the year it came out, they totally failed to capatalize on the alternative rock movement despite splitting a single with one of the most successful alternative rock bands ever. Point it, Jesus Lizard neer accomplished anything. and you have failed, LuLz
@submissivelover Lol. Listen to to Green Day "Know Your Enemy" and tell me that riff can hold a candle up to Jesus Lizard "Nub". If you can't tell the difference between objectively bad music and Jesus Lizard, then you shouldn't express your opinion on any public platform.
@poopiedeloopie I'm not sure what's Objective about Sales and popularity and General Impact on The mainstream music world. Where do the facts become dis illusioned with personal annimosity. How dare you compare a band whose done NOTHING to a band who wrote fucking "American Idiot", "Nimrod"...they wrote a rock Opera you moron, musically and lyrically connected a story. DOn't question Greendays undeniable expasion artistically with those 2 albums. Your pretentiousness blinds you.
@submissivelover Oh you mean how they ripped off Husker Du's concept album that had a connected story and lyrics about....ehh...20-25 years before them? Interesting.
American Idiot is objectively a bad song. Its one of the most lazy power chord progression songs of all time, beaten only by Green Day's "Know Your Enemy".
@poopiedeloopie It didn't ripp off Husker Du's concept. Green days story was much More of a sociological reflection of American youth versus Huskers du's Story of some asshole being a bitch, your refences to Irrelevent bands is getting really boring by now.
I could make the same argument for 99% of the entire punk rock catalouge as far as chord progression is concerned. Punk Rock is THE LAST genre you want to reference for "Innovative Chord Progressions", dumbass lol.
@submissivelover Basing a bands entire history on one song. Right...If your going to criticize an entire genre, atleast do your homework. Try telling anyone that knows anything about music that neither Mike Watt or D.Boon werent relevent players with the bass and guitar respectively and your going to get laughed at. Like I am right now.
@johnnyscifi Im not a troll, I just dont like when people say that Punk Rock isnt relevent because it is and for the record, Corona is a great song, not their best, but still pretty good...
@poopiedeloopie Green Day is an entirely different culture then punk rock. Like them all you want, they mean nothing to the people who enjoy the 80's underground.
Though I happen to agree that they don't hold a candle to Jesus Lizard, by sales alone you could argue that Britney Spears is superior to Jesus Lizard aswell. Music isn't about sales, it's about cultural relevance. How many bands are influenced by say, Big Black compared to Green Day?
