  • What does it say about Verizon's marketing team that they have to use a commercial from the 80s to try and get through people? Commercials used to be so much better! Case and point: this video!

  • @joy9585 That was the most creative stealing of some company's commercials that I have ever seen in my life!

  • It kind of hates me hate Verizon. Instead of wanting to switch over to their company, I suddenly find myself craving cinnamon gum! So much for that little plan...

  • I won't go so far as to say that commercials were better then, as that could totally be nostalgia talking. What I can say though is it was brilliant marketing on part of Verizon. Not only did they reuse a jingle that had a built-in familiarity with an audience, but the tongue-in-cheek nature of the ad has allowed it to get replay on youtube and mentions of it all over the internet. The fact that Verizon's ad is getting blogged about and commented on is noteworthy.

  • Now I can't get this damn jingle out of my head.

  • People who complain about Verizon's PARODY ad were obviously born after the mid-80s and didn't grow up with this stuff. I found it EXTREMELY funny! Wait a few more years, and then the 90s will be parodized...Spice Girls anyone?

  • Wow. While watching the new family guy this week, I noticed a parody of this jingle, and had to look it up. I was shocked to find out ( having been born in 1981 ) that I remembered this video advert so vividly.

  • Could be a viagra commercial nowadays....

  • If you don't chew Big Red, then @#$% you!

  • OMG... I am so blowed and decided to look this up, 4 real... I thought of it out of nowhere... I would not have believed it was here but, am tripped CLEAN OUT that it is...LMFAO, I was looking for the one with the girl and the guy on the ferris wheel though...

  • Big Red, you are my hero.

And all the art you do is awesome.

Lolwut? Nobody has a clue wtf I'm talking about.

  • That is indeed Peter "Ralphie" Billingsley as the band geek, as well as Vito Scotti as the sculptor.

  • I remember this commercial, I like the skirt that the lady is wearing too.

  • I had this song in my head for some reason and then I searched for it on youtube and here I am :-)

  • its not that old marsh aside from this there were more ads why would you think about gum?

  • cus of that damn song. Just try singing it for a while and you'll find you can't stop.

  • These were the good old days. It's ashamed the highscool kids can get suspended nowdays for showing affection.

  • Holy crap, I remember this commercial!!! I must have been like 5 years old.

I remember wanting the the red/white striped looking gum because it looked cool.

  • No little cinnamon gum freshens breath longer than Big Red.

    So kiss a little longer,

    stay close a little longer,

    pull tight a little longer.

    Longer with Big Red.

That Big Red freshness lasts right through it.

Your fresh breath goes on and on while you chew it.

    Say goodbye a little longer;

make it last a little longer.

Give your breath long lasting freshness with Big Red

  • "give your breath long-lasting fresh-NEHEHEHEHEHEHSS!! ... with Big REH EHD!!"

  • I like your E,H alternation to point out the use of emphatic vibrato.

  • Wow!! I cant believe these commercials have not been shown on television since 97 or 98??? It seems like just yesterday.. I will always have this catchy tune in my head. How come they dont make commercials anymore with the great catchy tunes?? It is the only way I remember the commercials no matter how tacky they are.

  • They must have used this commercial for quite a while...because I remember this one very well!!!

  • wow

  • my favorite jingle

  • I loved this jingle.

  • I remember seeing this commercial back when I was in elementary school. Those days of mine bring back many great memories. Thanks for posting.

  • One of my most memorable commercial jingles of the early 90's! Definitely a classic!!!

  • in my day you could get a stick of gum for a nickel! well they came in packs of five..lol

  • Holy crap, was it really that long ago?!

  • So classic! I swear, the 80's commercials were the last of the really great commercials! They all had MUSIC, which was so uplifting! And music helps contribute to a better society.

  • It was only a quarter actually all the way until around 2002 or so. Still, it's only 30 cents, which is slower than inflation in the 20-25 years that have passed.

  • hsha...remember when gum was a quarter? Those were the days...

  • I can still sing the jingle...

  • I remember seeing this commercial after coming home from school!

  • wow cool story

  • yes it was

  • Sooo classic

  • Wait a sec... Was the band geek Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) from A Christmas Story?!!! I think it was!

  • yeah and the girl is Lea Thompson...no seriously...Ralphie looks a little to old I should think
