  • These aren't lollies, it's rock! Britain's had them at seaside towns (all with different messages in) for many many years. Admittedly not as congratulatory gifts etc, but it's definitely been made before.

  • Try it! I wanted to for years, started making my own hard candy about a year ago,it's easy! ..well not the type this vid shows, but basic hard candy is easy to make and so rewarding! Problem is you have to eat your mistakes...it's just terrible! :D

  • Japan has been creating candies like these for decades.  It would have been nice if Sugar Sugar acknowledged that their technique originated from Japan.

  • The candy makers from Sugar Sugar learned from a master candy maker from Australia. The orgins of this particualar candy making can be traced back to England and Europe. Perhaps the candy making you are thinking of from originating from Japan is Amezaiku? A beautiful, but entirely different type of candy making.

  • Nope, Amezaiku is not the type of candy making that I was referring to. The candy that I am describing is called Kintaro-ame which was invented in Japan during the 18th century (Edo period).
