There really should have been more horror games for the NES. There's something about the primitive color scheme and sound chip that creates a really eerie atmosphere.
And people say you can't make a horror game for the NES? HA!
I miss the old 80's horror so much. There was a sort of subtlety to the environment that contrasted the danger. It is both a beautiful and terrifying movie. Capcom also made a badass adaption for it as well.
The movie is actually pretty ok, it's got some cool effects and gore. There are some scenes that are identical to the game. I actually have considered writing an Americanized screenplay...
the game was scary, but the fact that the sprites were just flipped 90 degrees made it look like they were walking while leaning back, which kinda goofed up the mood.
Funny, I remember playing a ROM for this game, not knowing anything about it until now. I had no idea it was based on a movie and that it was never released in the US.
That music you hearin' be courtesy of Junko Tamiya, the talented composer behind the NES version of Bionic Commando, and the arcade version of Strider.
Didn't know about this game, I'll need to check it out. Reminds me of a bunch of survival horror games: Fatal Frame, Clocktower, mostly Resident Evil. "Should we team up?" "STFU!"
Before Resident Evil, before Silent Hill, and a little after Splatterhouse, there was Sweet Home, which I'm sorry never made it past early Nintendo's morals code.
thanks. that was plenty of info. What I'm hoping is that although Japanese, that maybe there's a US release with subtitles or something. kinda like RINGU or one missed call(Chakusan ari or something)
I'm guessing fansubs is your only chance. If the movie only has 60-something votes on IMDb, I doubt it's been properly translated and released stateside as a DVD. Maybe the import version has an English track though, you never know. Good luck if you try and track it down.
Being made by Capcom, this game is essentially the groundwork for the Resident Evil series. Most people don't know about it because it was never released outside Japan.
yeah, that's too bad, no wait they would have censored it to death. I found the translated rom but haven't played it yet. If they remade it It would sell now though, they'd need to change a few of the elements but it would still be good.
RE is one of those series that has some pretty dedicated fans, I'd wager a release on VC would sell really well if Capcom made it evident that this game basically started the whole thing.

I agree and I'm surprised that this hasn't made any best Movie game lists. Sure it was never released in north America neither was the movie.
This is the first game that makes me want to see the movie it was based on. I've been looking for it online but can't find it.
Just knowing it was based off a movie should give it some credit, it's an amazing game.

The opening track is one of my very favorite game music pieces. A 5-star soundtrack.
Also, my pick for best movie game.

I think they should bring both the game and the movie version of sweet home to the U.S.

Dude, I'm glad they never brought his game to the states. It would've been butvhered due to Nintendo's strict policy at the time it was released.
