hello, i find your topics very interesting. how do you get that cinema effect, from this sony vegas, im recording from a conon t3, and do not want that live look, i want the nfilm look for my project. thanks
@kingbrooks555 One way to get the cinema look is to boost the colors. See how to do that in my YouTube video 'Fix washed out colors with Sony Vegas Movie Studio'
WHat you do that others are just LAME at, is instructing/demo same/ REVIEW what you just instructed. Everyone else stumbles and does not say "Once again what you do is..." then you show it in like a few seconds! Just Aces all the way dude! No jackin around and 100% helpful. Need pro audio help, let me know. Audio I have down pretty good from old school to TODAY. You know alot so maybe not but best to you regardless.
@Gdaiva1 To stabilize the image, the software has to zoom it to a point where edges of the video won't be cut off due to the amount of movement in the video.
@guerillabill thank you for your prompt reply, i have such an amazing footage of skull of dolphins I filmed in California, saw them from the road, but my hand was shaking.
I watched probably all your videos, lots of good information, thank you soo much!
i have a question, how to you get such good quality in your preview window when you press play?
when i press play the video only play maybe on frame every other second so i cant even tell whats going on, also the audio is extremely choppy, it will play the first two seconds just fine but then it starts cutting out... any ideas how to help this?
@JustMattFraz Generally, choppy or stuttering video in the preview window happens with mov or mp4 video, and is related to the CPU load required to preview mov / mp4 in real time. This is due to the many different flavors of mp4/mov video and the different codecs required.
Having a fast computer, with lots of RAM and a video card with lots of RAM can help. So can converting mp4/mov to avi using Cineform Neoscene.
@Tiberiumfreek Mov/mp4 video will preview choppy due the amount of CPU and RAM resources needed to preview in real time. You can convert mov/mp4 to avi using Cineform Neoscene to get smooth preview, or upgrade to a faster computer, more ram, better video card.
And yes, there is a render tool. Find it under 'project' 'render as'.
@guerillabill OH okay, thank you much...But I guess I forgot to add, is that I was using AVI Format but still was choppy. Oh and thanks for telling where the rendering thing was. Swear, that I looked everywhere but could not find it... :D
@Tiberiumfreek Use the free gspot appliance (google it) to check your video. Chances are real good it is not true avi but mp4/mov video in an avi wrapper. This is common with video from phtoto cameras, PVRs, video games.
@guerillabill OH okay, thank you much...But I guess I forgot to add, is that I was using AVI Format but still was choppy. Oh and thanks for telling where the rendering thing was. Swear, that I looked everywhere but could not find it... :D

@ytjhaas40 Before you use the video stabilizer, set your project properties to match the output size you want for your video.
Then make sure you video fills the preview area. If if doesn't, use pan & crop, right click in the pan & crop window, and choose 'match output aspect'.
I'm thinking of upgrading from Plat 9 but I have a question. Can you determine how much it zooms the video or is it determined by how shaky the video is? I'm worried if I do the de-shake on a 720P clip I will lose a lot of resolution during the zooming? Also any idea how well this works for GoPro videos mounted on motorcycle? Thanks in advance.
@lowlypawn The video stabilizer definitely zooms the video a little to create the stabilization effect. I've used it with video from the GoPro Hero Wide HD and it works well. It actually improves the fishey effect of the widescreen video.
this stabilizator is horrible, because if you have a footage that you captured by handlecamera and even your hands don't shaking hardly if you want to stabilize this video the picture has a terrible quality...
ye but in small videos the zoom is to big, and change a lot the video. i see that in your video the zoom are not so big. I have to try it in 720p videos to see. so there is no way to change that zoom isn't
@OooIVANLOPEZooO I use Video Essentials 1,2 & 3 from NewBlue, but don't need the stabilizer as I have it in Movie Studio 10. You will find videos from NewBlue showing how to use their stabilizer on YouTUbe
is there just plain motion tracking separate from stabilizing so that you could take that clip that you had and say add some sort of a picture or text on something that looked like it was physically attached to something or take a bumpy shot of a picture frame and replace the picture?
Do you have tutorial videos for the Sony Movie Studio 10? Does your current Sony tutorial for sale on your website will cover all aspects of studio 10?
@npn888 My DVDs cover Sony Movie Studio Platinum 9 & 10. The only difference between 9 & 10 is the addition of video stabilizer and slide show creation. Everything else looks and works the same as in Platinum 9.
Do you have a tutorial on the rotating title effect that you have at the end of your videos? If there a name for it, maybe I could figure it out for myself. Thanks, Darryl
@firstdown80 That's pretty standard with video stabilizers. To stabilize video a slight zoom is usually applied by the stablizer so that the jumpiness can be smoothed out..
Do you have both programs running on the same computer? (Pro and movie studio) I am considering using movie studio just to stabilize shaky video footage or do you know of any plug-ins for Vegas pro 9 to stabilize videos.
@BluePlaque Yes, I have Movie Studio and Vegas Pro on the same computer, and there are no conflicts. And there is a stablizer plugin for Vegas available from New Blue FX
@TlathamXmahtalT i put everything on my computer to a external hardrive and i deleted all my videos off my computer. Thats when the low virtual memory started.. soo ??

Thanks for the video tutorial! :) One question, what's the difference between the 'handheld shot' options and the 'general footage' options?
AgonizedCandle 6 months ago
@AgonizedCandle The hand-held shot option will usually handle more radical movements, while general footage does smoother stabilization

Thanks for this video.
I am in the trial period for both Vegas pro 10 and home studio platinum.
Stabilizing my home video's is one of the reasons I consider buying.
When I try this on a AVCHD clip, a jeep ride in the dessert (pretty shaky!) I end up with a 'cropped' clip.
It's hard to see in your tutorial but is the result here the original image size?
Further I checked a 'New Blue' video, there cropped adges are filled in:
watch?v=T4LNk3oNCLQ
Do I need to buy New Blue?
thanks!

why when i do the stabilizer the video make a zoom in?

@rstudio11 @rstudio11 The stabalizer zooms the video so it has room to smooth it without causing the far edges of the video to show black borders.

Hi Bill, I just upgraded to Plat 10 HD, and applied "Stabilize Media" on my DV video (PAL-720x576x24).
I tried 3 settings, General Footage - Fast Analysis & Medium Analysis, as well as Handheld Camera - Very Smooth.
After applying "Stabilize Media", the video had this "zoom-in" effect, it's like the video is magnified.
I've got a screen capture of it over at photobucket, but I can't put the link here.
Have you encountered this before?

But a better solution is to add more RAM memory to your computer.
