love this song, lived in NZ from 1983 til 1988. Was pregnant with my son Matthew when I think I remember this song. I just love it, makes me remember all the good times in NZ.
Bloody Kiwi's aye! 2 much talent, thanx Jenny. In England they say "will you be my girl" but here in Aotearoa the Maori boys say " e hine e hoki mai ra" Arohanui Jenny XxxoxxX
Saw Jenny in Cairns last night. She still has a great voice. This song has such great memories for me as a Pom now living in Australia. It was in the charts in 1987 during my first visit down under. I bought the 7" single on vinyl & played it to death on my return to the UK.
I recall Jenny, like Split Enz, Dragon, Mark Williams and Misex had to move to Australia in order to become better known - keep in mind with Crowded House that the Finn's were the only kiwis in the lineup...
Jenny's career began in the late 1970s (apparently, she was a school teacher) before her time in The Crocodiles (which featured Bruno Lawrence on drums) when she fronted an all women group, "The Wide Mouthed Frogs"...
carpetcle....IF "anyone" has a hit song, wouldn't it be true that it will sell no matter what country you are in. Your short "quote" can be misread, maybe as you have. You have emphasised ' anyone' , 'can' , 'in' , and 'Australia', maybe suggesting Australia may be a pushover? which got you upset?maybe how she said it?Read it again 7 times and emphasise only one word giving each a turn of emphasis.Does it sound different or are you still not Happy. If not ,then which one are you ? Hi ho hi ho

The impression I got with her comment was that Australians will listen to and buy anything ??? no matter what the quality. I can assure you Aussies are very astute......
She could'nt have be more wrong if she tried if that was her theory, if any nation was guilty of listening to and accepting absolute shyte quality in music it would have to be the UK !
Set aside some of the obvious genuine quality hits, what they generally classed as good music was in fact usually absolute crap to the rest of the world.
NZ would have to be # 1 in the world for people who do not get enough credit for their awesome talent...or someone else claims em, either way. I don't think there is a KIWI alive that can't sing...and I am not a kiwi blowin their own trumpet but a skip.
ah the memories , the eighties truly a great time . isnt it amazing you hear a song like this and the memories come flloding back . god i had a crush on jenny morris like im sure must guys did . thanks for posting
I'm a kiwi but in the late 80's in the navy this was the most favourite song in the wooloomooloo pub in sydney one year. I love her and still do X.X.X :-)
Yeah, this is gold. She shows so much character in the clip too. It has always been one of my faves but now that I've seen the film clip, it has gone up another notch. Thanks to Jenny of course but also to everyone involved in bringing it here.
Great nz rock chick from way back, saw her live, great memory 1989, Mt Maunganui soundshell, and she held the mike down to me and my mates singing (screaming) the words!!
Beautiful. I'm sitting up watching Countdown repeats on rage and they played "She Has To Be Loved. I can't believe I'd forgotten all about Jenny Morris, she had some of the best songs of the 80s and 90s.
It is a good song, I was wondering if that was Neil Finn sitting on the Piano in the background... kinda looks like it could be...but then again Im probably seeing things lol
thank you so much! i knew she did! i was made fun of for saying that it's a Jenny Morris' song as well..guess i didn't know JJ sang it too..thanks Scampi! mwuah!
