MK4 isn't bad, just didn't stand out alot. MK2 and UMK3 were probably the best in the MK series. But I agree that many of the classic 2D games had an initially rough transition to 3D. MK4 being a glaring example.
Just one thing: If you play MK3 (or MK4) against the AI, you will not last more than 15 minutes, but if you play it against somebody else, it will be much longer, and if both players know what they are doing in the game, you can end up playing for hours. Ask the guys who play MK2/UMK3 online in Kaillera.
Yeah, pretty poor game objectively, even when it came out... But I don't know, I find that this game links back to the original MK1 gameplay and I liked that since MK1 is my favourite MK game.
