My initial thoughts on Marth:

It was popular in Japan but Nintendo only decided to bring the big name characters (and Nes for some reason) to the first Smash Brothers. When they realised it became a franchise they added some more obscure characters like Marth.

Nahhh I think was a good replacement, Marth and Roy have the same capabilites but Marth is deadlier because the tip of Marth sword has great knockback + power while roy is just power in a close range.

He is actually in his own manga series, his story is told and still continues in a japanese manga, he isn't popular here in America but if you ask anyone in japan about him they will tell you lots.

Stop bashing him, Roy actually is quite important and he deserved to be in brawl, just have a different moveset but deadlier than Marth.

@mummyfan16 Well another reason why they probably got rid of Roy was because first of all, his game never even released anywhere outside of Japan and so most people wouldn't know about his game. Also, Ike's game just came out a while ago and so they thought it would be more practical to include the more recent game instead. Marth will probably always be there cuz he's from the very first original game and it would be like getting rid of Link from the Zelda characters. >_>

honestly, i definitely would (late, i know) take that challenge if i had the game anymore, but mine had broke a while back. Still, Ike is better in my opinion, despite if i lose or win, considering neither of them are my main. I use Fox. Sure he's weak, but...I've mastered fox since SSB.

I feel sorry for anyone who thought Marth was a female. They either need to get their eye's checked, stop watching shows they have guys look like girls on purpose, or they are too judgemental. So what he's wearing a tiara? A tiara doesn't immediately put itself as to something only females wear, it's a crown that isn't so bulky and acts as a headband or just very small. @ACinthemaking About Roy being oped... It was very hard to hit someone with actual skill with that B move. If you were being killed by that you are the one without skill. his sweet spot was the part of his blade closer to him, Marth did have it easier hitting someone with his sweet spot since it was at the tip of his blade. Their moveset wasn't any different so you really cannot say one is cheaper than the other.

I know you will think I'm only defending him, people assuming things fail anyway.

I did some research and found out Roy was intended to be placed in Brawl, they already had Ike in and they realized that because of Ike's data being so similar to Roy's from the gamecube, the game wouldn't let them have them both in the game. They didn't have time to convert their data separately and they released the game without Roy, Mewtwo was also supposed to be in but his reason is a bit different.

So yes, Roy was supposed to be in and Nintendo wanted him, kinda funny but sad too.
