Firstly the commentator is an absolute dickhead of immeasurable magnitude and secondly the Dogfish is hardly a predator worthy of an Octopus such as that. As stated the people at the Aquarium didn't know what would happen. It's hardly a battle when the fish is possibly unaware of the threat, the Octopus on the other hand as MinyRullz quite rightly stated are badass. Hardly a fair fight in my opinion.

Sharks don't have muscular gills; they cannot pull water in, rather, they have to swim in order to let water pass through the gills, even whilst they sleep.

When the octopus grabbed the shark, it cut off its ability to breathe. Within a minute, the shark lost most of its capacity to try and fight back, and "drowned". Although suffocated would have probably been a better word.

Quite honestly, as the other poster stated, i'm not too impressed with this footage either. Nor does it surprise me, as Giant Octopi, are EXTREMELY powerful animals. Honestly, "Dogfish" Sharks, shouldn't even be classified, among the "true sharks", at least in my belief. They have very small flattened teeth, for crushing Crabs, Lobsters, and other crustacean's. So this, was a complete mismatch. Had this been a larger species of Shark, such as; Hammerhead or Nurse it would be more believeable....

it was what we call a mudshark in BC. they don't usually get very big. I've caught dozens of them salmon and cod fishing and the biggest was about 4ft. the octopus around here can get pretty big. Maxim magazine had a picture of an octopus eating a mudshark by campbell river BC a few years back. there even an "octopus marine park" in the waters near campbell river.
