Lipatti was one of the rare few who was a direct channel to the music, with no personal quirks or exaggerations in the way; he never drew attention to himself, even though his playing was technically astounding. His gorgeous tone is instantly recognizable as well; he always played with a touching simplicity and vulnerability that often brings me to tears. I wish more young pianists would identify with him.
