@anto1191 A fictional series, but set in a universe with rules, cause and effect, etc. The Chig ship is explicitly stated to be not trackable earlier in the episode. Fiction is one thing, fiction which contradicts itself is another.
@hypno45 I always assumed he just fired them dead on. He set up that last head-to-head so he'd be as close to the chig as possible and moving away from him in a straight line (still a pretty impossible shot, i know). Come to think of it, though, the main reason the fighter was untrackable was that it's exhaust was too clean for the LIDAR to pick up, but at that distance and right on it's tail, he might've still had some sort of lock. Maybe i'm just thinking too much.
this could have rivalled Battlestar but NOOOO fox only wanted fucking money GODS I want them dead for half the shit they cancelled. someone has to revamp this show. I always rooted for the chigs, somebody needs to revamp that race's attack and strategy and update their viciousness on the battlefield. everything but their fighters needs tobe updated.
I loved this show when it was on... but I always felt that it's fatal flaw was the fallacy that fighter pilots who would be highly skilled and trained at their profession, were then expected to drop in as 'grunts' and fight like Marines... which is a totally different skill set. You don't see Air Force pilots taking turns on the ground in Afghanistan, side by side with the Army and Marines... there's a reason for that.
@GunHed17 In a future where everything is automated and you have less people to do things, what would you expect? In real life we are already headed to that kind of a future. Just look at the projected manning requirements of the DD-21 Zumwalt & CG-21 future surface combatants. Also, we've have a shift in the last 30 years to multi-role everything. Now there's going to be an electronic warfare version of the F/A-18 the EA-18 Growler.
@GunHed17 American marines are first and foremost infantry, so its no suprise that marines pilots fight as infantry when ordered to do so. Army pilots are soldiers etc .

Yes I do have the nerve to call YOU historically challenged, because Prussia was the section of Poland conquered and claimed by the Germans, hence becoming a disputed and mixed cultural area.
@Stilgarsan German Imperial Air Force, shot down either by Cpt. Roy Brown of the Royal Canadian Flying Corps or an Australian anti-aircraft MG team, depending on who's telling the story.
cool love this show wish we had space fighters with laser weapons if they can put a laser on a Boeing 747 they can put it on a space plane to protect the earth from asteroids like that apophis one thats gonna b close to earth in 2029!!!

@Senshinobi That's what I thought. Don't feel like having a melted CPU for being an idiot. WISE decision. First one you've made, it seems. Retort to this and face the same fate, by the way.
@whop9 Would not look right otherwise though it would be physically correct. Sometimes its about the looks and not about being correct, hell the whole show would be illogical if you want it physically correct. ;)
Non-serious answer: Advanced Technology is damn loud.
this is awesome everyother sci fi movie involving space combat has never given its followers such a duel in any way and I doubt they could ever match this
I immediately got hooked on this series and was sad to see it finish on the same season. Maybe it was meant to be that was given the integrity and realism of the characters and plots. Nevertheless does anyone know the classical music herein this clip. Semper Fidelis
It certainly was the biggest wow moment of the series. I liked the series Babylon 5 more, it lacked any kind of dog fight between ace pilots like this. Even movies like Star Wars never had a one on one dog fight like this. So it does really stand out as a true awesome moment in a sci-fi series.
I love both BSG (the new one) and Space ... imagine a show that combined the strong points of both of these in one show ... a BSG with the military realism of Space: Above and Beyond and with less religious crap.
This show embodied the concept of unrealized potential hampered by a number of seriously bad decisions --Namely enemy aliens who, after being shot, melt like the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz, or aliens who can morph into human ex-lovers of the main characters...such BAD storytelling. Yes, it messed up several of times--untimately unforgiveably so. On the other hand, it often told incredible, compelling, powerful stories. Now, that's an allegory for most of our lives, wouldn't you say?
I think the point was that he had to get to point-blank range on a rear-position launch with the target located only visually, not on his scanning gear, before he fired the missiles. Which would have been an impossible feat for any lesser pilot.
This espisode was one of the best episodes on the show. I think who ever decided to pull the plug did so on a very successful show that was watched by alot of people. I think it was after three or 4 seasons on the last show were everybody from the 58th were all split up. Lets just say it was left very wide open and could have been ressurected. A movie could have been done. I can only hope that one of those idoits who pulled the plug will bring it back.
Just like in this space episode, Hawker was flying the inferior plane , a Airco DH-2 against Richthofen's Albatros D.II which had much more engine power, agility and was better armed aswell.
Not only is this the best one-on-one dogfight in sci-fi history, it is like the only one. BSG never had the frackin' balls to do it, no one in Bab 5 had the mad skills, Star Wars only did it in books and comics, Star Trek does not even have star fighters... So balls to the wall with S:AAB!!!!
BSG doesn't have anything on SAaB. Those emotionally unstable nut jobs couldn't hold it together against the discipline and skill displayed by the cast here.
@nelsonmars I disagree. When it comes to expressing real human emotion and behaviour in the face of certain defeat and death SAAB can't hold a candle to BSG. BSG is imho the most realistic sci fi show that has ever been done. If you can call a sci fi show realistic. ;-) I loved SAAB. But BSG is in a class of it's own. No other SF-show has such rich and well written characters.
@Senshinobi Totally and unequivocally wrong. Ronald D. Moore reused so many concepts from his time on ST: TNG and outrightly plagiarized equally as many ideas from the Stargate franchise, that BSG and Caprica are frankly the least original/provocative shows to come to be in quite some time. Yes, the Cylons as a human creation gone out of control. Replicators, anyone? Ah, the use of "avatars" in a networked virtual environment. We saw that in SG-1 and Atlantis NUMEROUS times, and far better done
@Senshinobi For that matter, if you want to talk character and emotional development, SG-1 accomplished that in 2-3 seasons, and went on for a total of 10. 10 to the paltry BSG count. Atlantis accomplished the same in less time. Universe is a disappointment, granted. But, back to TNG, as I mentioned, the bonds between those characters were far deeper and more defined than ANYTHING on BSG or its ridiculous prequel series, and that was BEFORE Moore joined TNG. So, in modern parlance...suck it.
@fmcc0904 Easy pal. No need to get worked up here. :-) Of course concepts get reused and you won't find many shows nowadays who don't draw on s.th. that has been done before. SG-1 and Atlantis did it too, as you certainly know (Symbiots? Old concept which was already done by STNG for example). But I didn't talk about about concepts, mind you.
@fmcc0904 But I didn't talk about about concepts, mind you. I talked about character development and showing realistic behaviour. Well, as I see it, BSG achieved more concerning character development in the first season than Atlantis and SG-1 achieved in all of their respective seasons. I'm sure you will totally disagree, but that is the way I see it.
@fmcc0904 Also BSG features less stereotypes than any other sci-fi series out there. Concerning the bonds between the characters, I wholeheartedly disagree. Deeper? In some cases that may be true (depending on the character combination). More defined? Nope. More realistic? Absolutely not! Concerning realistically written characters BSG really shines.
@fmcc0904 I really like SG-1 and Atlantis, and I love STNG and DS9 . Everyone of those series has something unique and great about it, but when it comes to character writing and development they all pale in comparison to BSG. You may think differently and of course you are entitled to your own opinion. But so am I.
@Senshinobi Yes, we're all entitled, even if we happen to be dead wrong. 15 years + of the Stargate franchise, with characters set in our time period, far more developed and relatable than the frankly butchered characters in the new BSG. I'm not speaking from an uneducated standpoint, here. I gave it a shot, as did many of my friends. Ron D. Moore is a plagiarist moron. Pure and simple. It's a damn shame that a celebrated Latino actor like Edward James Olmos associated himself with that crap.
@fmcc0904 Having run for such a long time doesn't make a franchise good. Having run only for 4 seasons doesn't make BSG a bad series (what kind of argument is that anyway?) Yeah, SG is set in our current time....your point being? Your arguments are painfully weak here and by calling your statements arguments I'm giving you a lot of credit. Let's be honest here: You don't like BSG, period.
@fmcc0904 But the SG characters are far more developed? You've got to be kidding me. Actually they stay pretty much the same throughout the series when it comes down to their basic motivations and ways of acting. And yes, I'm not speaking from an uneducated standpoint here as well. I've seen all seasons of SG-1 and Atlantis. By the way, an opinion isn't right or wrong. It just is. We're not talking about facts here after all.
@Senshinobi You're right. I don't care for a feebly-written program that limped along on SyFy and scored a spin-off by the skin of its teeth. Moore has almost exhausted his cred as a sci-fi writer/producer. I'll have a little party when he's finally (rightfully) canned. How long did it take him after TNG had run its course to pick up an aged show idea that hadn't even been given a fair shot and infused enough sex and pop culture references to beguile idiots into finding it innovative?
@fmcc0904 We are talking about likes and dislikes. But this discussion gets us nowhere. So I'm outta here. See ya and have fun with your favourite shows. ;-)
@Senshinobi And if you wish to discuss facts? Well. Jackson started off by pining over his lost wife. Then, she died. He took up the quest of searching for the Harcesis. When that ran its course, he realized that any race that used its knowledge and/or technology to enslave others needed to be stopped. O'Neill began with emotional baggage from his son, and though that never faded, he pushed it down and drove on through countless struggles, the likes of which BSG never even SKIMMED.
@Senshinobi Carter had the chance to become an astronaut, but that didn't come until after she'd become part of the Stargate program, and it also came from her father, who she later learned was dying of cancer. Identifiable situations, anyone? For God's sake. Teal'c left his family behind to try and champion the cause for bringing freedom to all of his people, and his teammates helped him recover his family out of a SEVERE kinship that came from serving together under fire.
@Senshinobi I won't even get into Atlantis, because the manner in which those characters were fleshed out was about equal. So, you seem rather uneducated now, don't you? BSG gave us 1) An aging commander who was on the verge of retirement along with his ship, 2) A supposedly very intelligent man who was fooled into aiding in the destruction of his homeworld, 3) A sex-addict, shallowly-written Cylon...shall I go on?
@Senshinobi BSG and Caprica are CRAP. Evidenced additionally by the fact that SG-1 and Atlantis are syndicated across how many markets? That is based on fan demand, sir. And you are part of a scant minority who is easily entertained by the likes of BSG, Heroes, Lost, and a laundry list of other equally overrated programs that only appear to be of any worth due to the insane amount of media exposure they receive. All of which is bought by their producers. Wake the Hell up.
@Senshinobi To get back to SAAB, however? 1 Season was ridiculously short. That happens when Fox is willing to pre-empt a sci-fi show for any variety of other programs and then not even bother to re-run it later or the next day. These Marines acted with a deeper sense of camarederie than I've seen in any other program since. It only equates with my own experiences in combat, in the military. So, Senshinobi, as they say, stick that in your pipe and smoke it. Argument over.
@fmcc0904 You sir, you are way too easily taken in by stereotypically written characters. But hey, everyone has a different taste. Yours not being a good one at that. Oh by the way, BSG was supposed to run only 3 seasons, as the show was too expensive, but got a 4. season. That was based on fan demand too, sir. So much for being informed, as you claim to be. So fmcc0904, as they say, revel on in your ignorance and have a nice day.
@Senshinobi You really are an idiot, aren't you? Too expensive? SG-1 ran FIVE seasons on SHOWTIME. And got a larger budget than any other Sci-Fi Channel prod to date, including Bull Shit Galactica for 5 additional seasons on that channel, as well as 5 seasons of a spin-off, and at least 3 of a second spin-off. Moron.
@fmcc0904 So now you are getting insulting? Fine with me. That only confirms that you really are as immature as I thought you would be. Well, don't worry. BSG appeals mostly to educated people due to it's complex story and character development so I'm not surprised you don't like it. ;-)
@Senshinobi Immature? Go spill blood in a foreign land and then try to tell me which series portrays military bonds between members of such an organization. BSG, educated. Wow. You really are an ignorant fuck. Give me another asshole reply and I'll sniff out your IP and hack the Hell out of you. Military Specialty had a minor in computer science, so doubt me if you want, you fucking pansy.
DS9...unique? That show was an unapologetic rip-off of B5. They literally stole Straczynski's work and called it their own...DS9 was so unoriginal that they didn't even bother to change the naming convention (hurr hurr, if we change the 5 to a 9, nobody will suspect a thing hurr hurr). Dillinger would've been proud.
@sidewinderl I said there was "something" unique about that show. Parts of it were a rip-off. Can't argue with that. But other aspects were quite interesting. And in the end, every modern sci-fi show does it's share of ripping off concepts from older shows. And B5 is no exception. Which doesn't make it a bad show. But the same is true for DS9 I think. Also, I can still enjoy such a show if the rip-off is done in a decent way. ;)
@Senshinobi I think the characters of bsg and saab are on paar. Bsg had some delightfully dysfunctional characters though, what was quite refreshing in tv science fiction at that time. Another novelty was the abandonment of the happy family principle found in other scifi shows. These are both very interesting concepts, which would have been misplaced in saab none the less, for it focuses on other aspects of the human nature. The character relations are better in bsg of course...
@Stilgarsan Yes, I agree. SAAB was great back then and still is, and it brought many new aspects to the sci fi-tv show genre which paved the way for many shows which followed including the new BSG. I still prefer BSG, but tastes differ. I just love the well written characters with their flaws and strengths and the complex relationships between them.
They could bring the original cast for a big screen version....... They would be in higher ranks and more experimented veterans. Vansen and Damphoos could have survived the reentry, and Mcqueen was injured but not dead! And because it is a fiction, the producers can come with some way to save even Wang to!
Much Props 4 Post'n this scene man!!!! And your right this is "one" of the best sci-fi dogfight scenes. I always thought it was wicked how the ace alien pilot had " abandon all hope" etched on his space craft. 2 bad McQueen frag'd him lol. This was a very good sci-fi show that never got the credit it deserved cause it didn't have any stars in it. Wish i could give your post 5 more stars, good 1 man!!!
Great show, the only problem was the year three thousand and something! It could have been more believable if it was 2000 and something. And the Chiggy being Human looking without having descendants on Earth... I mean c'mone! They even rote in English "ABANDON ALL HOPE"!!!!??? GOOD Sci fy thou!
I think 2060 the Chiggy attacked! But I might be wrong! If is 2000 and something is better and more believable! It is a great show, like I said it's just this thing about evolution happening in another planet exactly like on earth! Not only primates but human beings .
It was written in english so the marines could read it and overstand........ that Chiggy was about 2 get in their ass's (pause ll)!!! And the chances of their survival were none!!!!
I Just watched the whole show in the last week. And now I know the complete story. It is a great show and I wish to see more of it! I hope there is some kind of conversation about! Maybe a big screen version, or a animated movie...! I don't know why the F**K they canceled it?
I think the show was just coming into its own in character development and stories. Of course there were a few clunkers, what show doesn't have them. Think about your favorite show and look back at the first episodes, they seem a little hokey. Usually when you think of a good show you are only thinking about the best episodes. This show only ran two seasons. Overall I think If the series had continued it would have been great. Invitro's, Ai's the chigs's, main characters relationships all good.
fox has been screwing shows over since the early 90s... this show wouldve been frakkin wicked if it wasnt canceled...look how bad ass and successful BSG turned out...
Wonderful series that everyone's forgotten ('cept for true Wildcards, Hoorah). I love the new BSG, but I feel alot of look and feel of Moore and Eick show got it's origin from S:AAB. I'm sure both producers would agree with me. Thank God, it's on DVD. I hope some producer would return to S:AAB universe and give it a reboot.
Agree with you 100%. This show was not given enough time. It had and still has a great fanbase. I know the graphics aren't incredible but this was top of the line in the mid 1990s when this show was out, and they still hold up pretty well now.., just imagine how good this would look now.
I just got the box set. I highly recommend it. Both McQueen and Hawkes were the standout characters. Well formed and performed by two great character actors. Actually, the whole cast was wonderful. Hoorah! Semper Fi, do or die!
Thanks man, I may have to pick that one up! I wish they continued the story cause I'd really like to see where everything went. The Chigs/Human relations, the Synthetics (I forget what the slang for them was), how Wang's loss would effect everyone, and most importantly, those business guys who seem to be part of a shadow wing of the government and who seemed to know how everything thing would go down before the start of the war... Thought there could be great developments with that plot.
The A.I. They looked a little silly and made an audible "beep-beep" noise. But character wise they were wonderful for the show. Very Pre-Cylon almost ten years before Ron Moore's BSG. Think he was watching S:AAB? hmmm...
I was annoyed that FOX seemed to change the time of the show now and again. It wasn't consistant so people didn't have a chance to get into it. The character developement was great, chigs were cool (for blood-thirsty alien types that is), whoever made the decision to pull the plug on this show is simply an idiot!
Its worth it to buy the entire series DVD. Unfortunately, a follow up to the series will never be made. Maybe the originals producers (or someone else) will make a reboot. We can only hope!
People also said that there would never be a second Tron movie. A bad remake of the original at best they said but even that was considered unlikely.
But now after almost 30 years Tron Legacy hits the cinemas including the most important original actors and it is indeed a continuation and no remake.
The only reason for that is that there is still a strong fan community.
We may never see a continuation of SAAB with its original cast, thats clear.
The plug was pulled because at the time it was one of the most if not the most expensive show FUX was making. They also felt that scifi was making a shift towards suspnse hence X-FILES. Its still one of my favorite shows though
A good show that was replaced by House or desperate house sluts......TV really sucks now days....

@GunHed17 They wanted to show all aspects of combat, not just space, but didn't want to do the Police Story-type format this would've entailed.

It certainly was the biggest wow moment of the series. I liked the series Babylon 5 more, it lacked any kind of dog fight between ace pilots like this. Even movies like Star Wars never had a one on one dog fight like this. So it does really stand out as a true awesome moment in a sci-fi series.

This scene was propably inspired by the duel between british ace Lanoe Hawker and Manfred von Richthofen on November 23. 1916.
With the difference that in the end it was Hawker who was shot down and killed by Richthofen.
After a unusually long dogfight , Richthofen's machineguns jammed but the last burst before that had struck Hawker in the head killing him instantly.
He located the crash site and took the Lewi's machinegun off his plane as trophy and hung it above the door of his quarters.
Celeon999A 2 years ago
Just like in this space episode, Hawker was flying the inferior plane , a Airco DH-2 against Richthofen's Albatros D.II which had much more engine power, agility and was better armed aswell.
Celeon999A 2 years ago
That Hawker was able to give the Red Baron one of the toughest dogfights of his career in such a inferior plane is a testimony to his flying skills.
But in the end , it was not enough.

Not only is this the best one-on-one dogfight in sci-fi history, it is like the only one. BSG never had the frackin' balls to do it, no one in Bab 5 had the mad skills, Star Wars only did it in books and comics, Star Trek does not even have star fighters... So balls to the wall with S:AAB!!!!

nelsonmars 1 year ago
@nelsonmars i'll take Colonel McQueen over Commander "Cruz Castillo" Adama any time.
williamskidfears 1 year ago
@nelsonmars I disagree. When it comes to expressing real human emotion and behaviour in the face of certain defeat and death SAAB can't hold a candle to BSG. BSG is imho the most realistic sci fi show that has ever been done. If you can call a sci fi show realistic. ;-) I loved SAAB. But BSG is in a class of it's own. No other SF-show has such rich and well written characters.
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@Senshinobi Totally and unequivocally wrong. Ronald D. Moore reused so many concepts from his time on ST: TNG and outrightly plagiarized equally as many ideas from the Stargate franchise, that BSG and Caprica are frankly the least original/provocative shows to come to be in quite some time. Yes, the Cylons as a human creation gone out of control. Replicators, anyone? Ah, the use of "avatars" in a networked virtual environment. We saw that in SG-1 and Atlantis NUMEROUS times, and far better done
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@Senshinobi For that matter, if you want to talk character and emotional development, SG-1 accomplished that in 2-3 seasons, and went on for a total of 10. 10 to the paltry BSG count. Atlantis accomplished the same in less time. Universe is a disappointment, granted. But, back to TNG, as I mentioned, the bonds between those characters were far deeper and more defined than ANYTHING on BSG or its ridiculous prequel series, and that was BEFORE Moore joined TNG. So, in modern parlance...suck it.
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@fmcc0904 Easy pal. No need to get worked up here. :-) Of course concepts get reused and you won't find many shows nowadays who don't draw on s.th. that has been done before. SG-1 and Atlantis did it too, as you certainly know (Symbiots? Old concept which was already done by STNG for example). But I didn't talk about about concepts, mind you.
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@fmcc0904 But I didn't talk about about concepts, mind you. I talked about character development and showing realistic behaviour. Well, as I see it, BSG achieved more concerning character development in the first season than Atlantis and SG-1 achieved in all of their respective seasons. I'm sure you will totally disagree, but that is the way I see it.
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@fmcc0904 Also BSG features less stereotypes than any other sci-fi series out there. Concerning the bonds between the characters, I wholeheartedly disagree. Deeper? In some cases that may be true (depending on the character combination). More defined? Nope. More realistic? Absolutely not! Concerning realistically written characters BSG really shines.
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@fmcc0904 I really like SG-1 and Atlantis, and I love STNG and DS9 . Everyone of those series has something unique and great about it, but when it comes to character writing and development they all pale in comparison to BSG. You may think differently and of course you are entitled to your own opinion. But so am I.
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@Senshinobi Yes, we're all entitled, even if we happen to be dead wrong. 15 years + of the Stargate franchise, with characters set in our time period, far more developed and relatable than the frankly butchered characters in the new BSG. I'm not speaking from an uneducated standpoint, here. I gave it a shot, as did many of my friends. Ron D. Moore is a plagiarist moron. Pure and simple. It's a damn shame that a celebrated Latino actor like Edward James Olmos associated himself with that crap.
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@fmcc0904 Having run for such a long time doesn't make a franchise good. Having run only for 4 seasons doesn't make BSG a bad series (what kind of argument is that anyway?) Yeah, SG is set in our current time....your point being? Your arguments are painfully weak here and by calling your statements arguments I'm giving you a lot of credit. Let's be honest here: You don't like BSG, period.
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@fmcc0904 But the SG characters are far more developed? You've got to be kidding me. Actually they stay pretty much the same throughout the series when it comes down to their basic motivations and ways of acting. And yes, I'm not speaking from an uneducated standpoint here as well. I've seen all seasons of SG-1 and Atlantis. By the way, an opinion isn't right or wrong. It just is. We're not talking about facts here after all.
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@Senshinobi You're right. I don't care for a feebly-written program that limped along on SyFy and scored a spin-off by the skin of its teeth. Moore has almost exhausted his cred as a sci-fi writer/producer. I'll have a little party when he's finally (rightfully) canned. How long did it take him after TNG had run its course to pick up an aged show idea that hadn't even been given a fair shot and infused enough sex and pop culture references to beguile idiots into finding it innovative?
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@fmcc0904 We are talking about likes and dislikes. But this discussion gets us nowhere. So I'm outta here. See ya and have fun with your favourite shows. ;-)
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@Senshinobi And if you wish to discuss facts? Well. Jackson started off by pining over his lost wife. Then, she died. He took up the quest of searching for the Harcesis. When that ran its course, he realized that any race that used its knowledge and/or technology to enslave others needed to be stopped. O'Neill began with emotional baggage from his son, and though that never faded, he pushed it down and drove on through countless struggles, the likes of which BSG never even SKIMMED.
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@Senshinobi Carter had the chance to become an astronaut, but that didn't come until after she'd become part of the Stargate program, and it also came from her father, who she later learned was dying of cancer. Identifiable situations, anyone? For God's sake. Teal'c left his family behind to try and champion the cause for bringing freedom to all of his people, and his teammates helped him recover his family out of a SEVERE kinship that came from serving together under fire.
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@Senshinobi I won't even get into Atlantis, because the manner in which those characters were fleshed out was about equal. So, you seem rather uneducated now, don't you? BSG gave us 1) An aging commander who was on the verge of retirement along with his ship, 2) A supposedly very intelligent man who was fooled into aiding in the destruction of his homeworld, 3) A sex-addict, shallowly-written Cylon...shall I go on?
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@Senshinobi BSG and Caprica are CRAP. Evidenced additionally by the fact that SG-1 and Atlantis are syndicated across how many markets? That is based on fan demand, sir. And you are part of a scant minority who is easily entertained by the likes of BSG, Heroes, Lost, and a laundry list of other equally overrated programs that only appear to be of any worth due to the insane amount of media exposure they receive. All of which is bought by their producers. Wake the Hell up.
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@Senshinobi To get back to SAAB, however? 1 Season was ridiculously short. That happens when Fox is willing to pre-empt a sci-fi show for any variety of other programs and then not even bother to re-run it later or the next day. These Marines acted with a deeper sense of camarederie than I've seen in any other program since. It only equates with my own experiences in combat, in the military. So, Senshinobi, as they say, stick that in your pipe and smoke it. Argument over.
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@fmcc0904 You sir, you are way too easily taken in by stereotypically written characters. But hey, everyone has a different taste. Yours not being a good one at that. Oh by the way, BSG was supposed to run only 3 seasons, as the show was too expensive, but got a 4. season. That was based on fan demand too, sir. So much for being informed, as you claim to be. So fmcc0904, as they say, revel on in your ignorance and have a nice day.
Senshinobi 1 year ago 2
@Senshinobi You really are an idiot, aren't you? Too expensive? SG-1 ran FIVE seasons on SHOWTIME. And got a larger budget than any other Sci-Fi Channel prod to date, including Bull Shit Galactica for 5 additional seasons on that channel, as well as 5 seasons of a spin-off, and at least 3 of a second spin-off. Moron.
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@fmcc0904 So now you are getting insulting? Fine with me. That only confirms that you really are as immature as I thought you would be. Well, don't worry. BSG appeals mostly to educated people due to it's complex story and character development so I'm not surprised you don't like it. ;-)
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@Senshinobi Immature? Go spill blood in a foreign land and then try to tell me which series portrays military bonds between members of such an organization. BSG, educated. Wow. You really are an ignorant fuck. Give me another asshole reply and I'll sniff out your IP and hack the Hell out of you. Military Specialty had a minor in computer science, so doubt me if you want, you fucking pansy.
fmcc0904 1 year ago
@Senshinobi
Dillinger would've been proud.
sidewinderl 1 year ago
@sidewinderl I said there was "something" unique about that show. Parts of it were a rip-off. Can't argue with that. But other aspects were quite interesting. And in the end, every modern sci-fi show does it's share of ripping off concepts from older shows. And B5 is no exception. Which doesn't make it a bad show. But the same is true for DS9 I think. Also, I can still enjoy such a show if the rip-off is done in a decent way. ;)
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@Senshinobi I think the characters of bsg and saab are on paar. Bsg had some delightfully dysfunctional characters though, what was quite refreshing in tv science fiction at that time. Another novelty was the abandonment of the happy family principle found in other scifi shows. These are both very interesting concepts, which would have been misplaced in saab none the less, for it focuses on other aspects of the human nature. The character relations are better in bsg of course...
Stilgarsan 1 year ago
@Stilgarsan Yes, I agree. SAAB was great back then and still is, and it brought many new aspects to the sci fi-tv show genre which paved the way for many shows which followed including the new BSG. I still prefer BSG, but tastes differ. I just love the well written characters with their flaws and strengths and the complex relationships between them.
Senshinobi 1 year ago
@nelsonmars: To be fair, the civilization in BSG was dying out, so that's why the characters were acting the way they did.
Neville6000 10 months ago
They could bring the original cast for a big screen version....... They would be in higher ranks and more experimented veterans. Vansen and Damphoos could have survived the reentry, and Mcqueen was injured but not dead! And because it is a fiction, the producers can come with some way to save even Wang to!

Agree with you 100%. This show was not given enough time. It had and still has a great fanbase. I know the graphics aren't incredible but this was top of the line in the mid 1990s when this show was out, and they still hold up pretty well now.., just imagine how good this would look now.
