As far as inventing the aeroplane goes, the Wright brothers are head and shoulders above all other claimants. They approached the problem in a scientific, systematic way, building on previous knowledge. Although their famous 1903 Flyer may not have been an aeroplane in the full sense of the word, their 1905 model certainly was. At this time no one else was doing more than uncontrolled hops, and mostly not even that. They astonished the world when they finally demonstrated their machine in 1908.
Stretch winding was used long before 1928. Hand drills and modified egg-beater winders were used for the twin pusher rubber models. Rubber powered models go back before 1900. The first heavier tha air flying machine was Parisian Alphonse Penaud's single pusher rubber model in the 1870's
@ardvarkkkkk1 Well, the person who invented the airplane was the first person to think of the possibilities of powered flilght, and who knows who that was, however, the Wrght brothers made it a reality....they knew of things like kites and gliders, and they just took it one step more. They did alot, are you denying they did anything useful?
@trailkeeper There were many people that had built completely workable airplanes before the Wright brothers and they did fly as gliders or kites. The one thing they never could do was to solve the power to weight problem. The engines of the day were much to heavy.
The Wright bros one major accomplishment was to build the most efficient engine ever made. This was a major engineering accomplishment that they, unfortunately, are not credited it for in the history books. Continued below.
@ardvarkkkkk1 With There design, they showed the world what was possible. In the way, they were great men. They just have not been credited for their greatest accomplishment. There is no doubt that they were instrumental in the development of powered flight. Not to bad for a couple of bicycle mechanics. Just goes to show, listen to everybody. Some damn good ideas come from people that you would not expect it from.
@ardvarkkkkk1 Ok, still, the Wright brothers did more than make a lightweight engine. they had to invent many parts of their airplane to make flight possible and practically safe, later there were many improvements for powered flight by many others, and by now if the Wright's didn't do it, then somebody else would have. First practical unpowered flight would have to go to the balloons some hundred or so years before 1903.Sure, the Wrights also built upon the available flight ideas at the time.
@trailkeeper There was nothing about their airplane that had not been done before. Even the wing warping control that they are often credited for had been done before.
So the UK designed the stealth bomber in 1928 ? 75 years before the skunk works showed their revolutionary machine...all they needed was a jet engine...OH thats right we gave them that as well in 1944 ..thanks for the freebie Mr whittle
Jack Northrop while in his early teens (1910) was designing tailless aircraft until he built the first operational flying wing in the mid 1930's the N-1M followed by the bigger N-9M and the YB-35 all of which were propeller driven.
His next wing was the YB-49 in 1948 that was jet powered and nearly the same measurements of todays B-2!
Your comments about the british giving us the jet engines goes right along with them American Wright brothers giving you somewhere to put that jet engine!
Do you know the history of the jet engine? While Whittle was working on his centrifugal-flow type engine the Americans were working on an axial-flow jet engine, which is more common now.
You Brits act as though no other country was trying to develop jet engine technology.
Just like with the Wright brothers, they were the first to fly, but that doesnt mean other countries were not working on their own designs. All it means is they were behind with their technology.
Whittles Centrifugal-flow engine was not very efficient and was very bulky compared to the American Axial-flow engine. Axial-flow engines are slightly longer than Whittles design though.
The American F86 Sabre first built in 1949 had the GE J46/73 axial flow engine, the Russian Mig 15 had a copy of Whittle's Nene engine. The Mig needed a large intake and was very bulky around the fuselag.
The F86 was slim with a much smaller intake and unmatched aerodynamics. Take a look at each.
Whittle was ahead of our axial flow design, so instead of waiting for ours, and since we needed a jet engine now (1940) we put our money on Whittles design instead of waiting for ours to get to production. We never stopped working on the axial-flow design so by 1944/45 the testing had started on the first operational axial-flow turbojet
By 1947 we had an A-F turbojet engine ready for production, the first axial flow engine to go into production anywhere, which ended up in the F86 Sabre.
High performance engines are fashioned after the axial-flow design now, no need for combustion "cans" like the Nene had around where the centrifugal compression occurs.
To sum it up, the NACA Axial flow jet engine Americans were working on while Whittle was developing the Nene turns out to be the better design in the long run!
Oh, you're not *speaking German right now and *²Rolls Royce engines is still in business all thanks to the Americans!

Like wagner24314 I think it was a horten brother at the begining of the footage, with a Horten tipe model; someone know if we are right?
Please if you know that, answer me, I´m very interesting.

it has to be a horten brother at the begining

I think like you, there was a Horten brother at the begining of the footage, with his own model (the only in this type)

@SuperAirhart I read that the Wright brothers had some of these toy airplanes before they invented their engine plane.

@trailkeeper 1) Toy airplanes don't fly. 2) The Wright brothers did not invent the airplane.
