  • fantastic man!!! my hat off to you sir.

  • BRAVISSIMO!!!!!

  • could you post tabs for this?

  • @theroots12345

Sorry I don't have the tabs.

  • not easy good job!

  • Just beautiful!!

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YESSSSS!!!!:-D))))

  • i saw steve himself perform this song recently, and your version is absolutely briliant probably the hardest example of hybrid picking ive come across

  • @pinkfloydrule27 clap is way more difficult as far as hybrid picking goes

  • Song is originally in open E tuning...nice job on this though:)

  • Nah, it's drop D, I'm positive about that. Guitar is tuned 2 steps higher in the original though which makes it sound more like an open E.

  • OK...What is the actual tuning then? I assume you used the drop D to put less stress on your guitar. I haven't sat down to figure this one out yet-I can do it on 6-string as Steve originally did it on the 'Asia In Asia' video, but I like it better on 12 string and my 12-string acoustic is in the shop...The three note open string drone part is clearly: Low E,B,Octave E-these are the 6th 5th and 4th strings in open tuning...what do you think is the rest?

  • Yeah, technically speaking is indeed an open E but strings are laid down as in the usual drop-D tuning. You could get the same effect if you put a capo on the second fret with a drop-D tuning.

3-2-1 are then A-C#-F# (E-B-E-A-C#-F#) Beware with that octaved A, great risk of breaking! He might not be using that one... I can't really tell now.

  • I mean the octaved A string.

  • Gotcha...I'll try to look closely at the studio GTR video and see if I can tell if he is using that string...

  • Nice playing! I just tuned my 12 down to open D - then saw your comment that it's just drop D.LOL! Did you transcribe this, or do you know where to get a transcription that's decent? I'm impressed with your cover. I gotta pracrice! :-)

  • Hope you didn't break any string while re-tuning :D

Eh, there's got to be a tab of this tune somewhere, I remember seeing a powertab that was pretty decent. Try googling "sketches howe powertab".

But I don't have tabs, I use to pick these ones by ear. Cheers.

  • Best cover of that song ever. Timing was hard wasn't it? :)

  • Thank you, yep, timing was a bit difficult in that middle section.

  • amazing but i can feel so much more when mr. howe plays it

  • Yeah, I can't help feeling the same as you ;-) Thanks anyway.

  • what tuning is this??

  • Loved it! Great job.

  • Amazing job.

  • Thank you hawk!

  • Really nice! Good job!

  • enjoyed it hyper =)

  • wow awesome job .what tuning is that hyper..thanks

  • Drop D tuning, DADGBE. Sorry for the delay :)

  • you are very good I play the guitar too and I play Clap, Mood For a Day , The ancient Starship Trooper

  • im not worthy!!!

  • Absolutely mate, another great album from Anthony Phillips. It's a shame Howe doesn't have that many 12 string pieces to sink your teeth into. Their styles differ so much anyway.

  • How long did it take you to get used to playing the bass notes with your pick, while playing the melody with your fingers simultaniosly?

  • I'm familiar with hybrid picking so it didn't take me long, picking on a 12 string that was kind of a new thing to me.

  • Nice! You must have found the elusive sweet 12 string! I can never find the right one. You have the Steve sound. Not easy to pull off, no pun intended!

  • good job. This song is a bitch to pull off. I have most of it down, but those damn 2 runs up and down the neck are tough copy. I'll post if I ever get a camcorder.

  • Thank you Gary. Yeah, those two runs are difficult to pull off, specially the last one. Mainly because it involves fast alternate picking on two different strings, actually in this case four. It never sounds the same everytime I play it ;) So keep practicing those runs and go and get that camcorder now! :)

  • Incredible. You just tackled a song by one of the best guitarists ever. Great performance.

  • Excellent playing again - what tuning are you using for this?

  • Thanks pint6x. I´m using the usual drop D tuning. From top to bottom: DADGBE, in this case the 6th to 3rd strings have additional octave strings.

  • Nice job. Hard work to keep the song flowing through the changes.

  • Magnificent...no cutaway either. Keep posting!

  • Great sound

  • Well done again Alex, keep up with the good work

  • Grazie.

  • oh my gosh, you are awesome! you are my new guitar hero (i play 12 string too)! you should record if you haven't already!
