I disagree with you in regards to Dragon Warrior's role as a "modern" CRPG. If anything it was the defining "split" game, not the defining "modern" game. MMOs evolved from another path of CRPGs than Dragon Warrior. While the two paths have influenced each other, I would say that the defining step into modern CRPGs were when Ultima and Might & Magic took their step into a more user friendly and story driven direction.

That is when games were HARD. Not this hand holding today with 99 slots available each with 99 potions. Kids today are pansies.

Don't laugh; when I was a kid I was so impressed by how beautiful the Super Mario Bros 2 end music was that I put it onto an audio tape on an endless loop and I would play it when I wanted to fall asleep. That and the end credits music to the NES Godzilla game, which is also awesome.

I whole heartedly agree about #1. It was hugely emotional for me, as well, honestly, and as a kid I would beat the game and just leave it running all night to listen to the song and fall asleep to it. It's still one of the best vg songs ever composed, in my opinion.

I really like the River City Ransom one although I never actually got to play it as a kid; my #2 would probably be the Area 1 music from Blaster Master...but I don't actually know how overlooked that one is or not.

I actually have the CD with the orchestral Dr. Mario theme. I believe Nintendo Power released the CD called "Smashing...Live!" and it had a bunch of songs from Super Smash Bros. Melee. I personally believe that to be the best version of the song.

Check out the final boss from Banana Price (German-only release) or even better the final stage of Pool of Radiance. The latter may be the best NES song ever created, it was made specifically for that version. 8 Eyes deserves mention too, do to the research that went into the music alone.
